Too bad plants ultimately burn.  Probably will happen when they try to protect their part on the throne when Daenerys finally appears in Westeros.

Yeah, I don't think it's a coincidence that of the two kings at the Field of Fire, the one that burned with all his male relatives was the Gardener king and not the Lannister one, and the Tyrell's are their direct successors.

Dany's gotta "break the wheel" after all (*in the background* omg yass slaaaaaaay kelly c).

EDIT: For that matter, wasn't Daemon Blackfyre's main base of power in the Reach? They don't have the best track record on this.

What do you think happened the last time Targaryens appeared? Tyrells greeted them with open arms. Highgarden was never attacked because the Tyrells knew exactly what to do and say at the exact right time.

It was Tyrells who laid siege to Storm's end, you know the one Stannis talked about... Yet somehow after the mad king was killed the Tyrells got away with almost zero consequence. TREMBLE at the power of intrigue and being the literal breadbasket of Westeros.

Tyrells are very likely to support Daenerys actually, specially right now since they are pissed at both Lannisters and Stannis. I can see many similarities between Dany and Renly, and the Tyrells were a Targ supporter before, and they supported Renly as well.

Gold and Iron mines get dry, fish migrate and people die. The evergreen lands of highgarden will grow always and forever. Growing strong.

Until winter comes, that is. A golden rose may smell sweet and grow strong in the summer, but it's no winter rose.

I miss the Riverlands arc.

and the politics involved in Stannis' northern campaign...

And plots that were more than paths leading to the next "Shocker".

It's good for Jaime's character development, but so much of it is just internal dialogue. Hard to get across in a visual medium. And plot-wise except for some tidbits about the Riverlord's "wolfish hearts" it's pretty insignificant.

Dorne could have been a good replacement. At this point it's not, but at least we got more Bronn out of it, and maybe Siddig and Nikolaj can salvage things next episode.

I'm hoping Benjen makes an appearance if only to solve the mystery of what the hell happened to him. The first book came out in 1997, and almost 20 years later no one except Martin and perhaps the showrunners know his fate. At this point he sort of seems like A Song of Ice and Fire's Chuck Cunningham. The popular fan theory that Benjen was Coldhands (a character only in the books, for those who've only seen the TV series) was apparently debunked not too long ago by Martin.

Is there anything more solid than IMDB stating he'll be reappearing in the last episode? IMDB is notoriously untrustworthy when it comes to that sort of thing, because the pages can be edited by practically anyone. Surprise additions to casts have just as often turned out to be wrong as they are right. For awhile the page for the first Hobbit movie for example was listing Ron Perlman as Beorn, which was based on nothing but wishful thinking/unsubstantiated rumors from Tolkien fans.

Speaking of disappearing characters...

I would also love some confirmation of what exactly went down with Syrio Forel. His off screen death seemed a bit suspicious in both the book and the television series,  especially since it supposedly comes at the hands of Meryn F--king Trant (as the Hound calls him), who is no great warrior. That has led to quite a bit of speculation over the years that Syrio and "A man" might be the same person.

I mean, he's been chilling with Dany for the last two seasons. Not a big mystery what he's been up to.

She might not be as adorably clueless as Mace, but Olenna is my favorite Tyrell.

Well her and Margaery, but Margaery's mainly just because Natalie Dormer.

Benjen?

He has been gone since season 1. Are you confusing him with Barristan Selmy? Benjen was Ned Stark's brother and was only in a couple episodes in the first season. He looks like a Stark (dark hair & bearded) and was a member of the Night's Watch.

Should I even watch this season at this point? Was going to binge it, not sure I should care at all though after all the problems I've heard about it.

Bland as the Dorne arc is, Doran Martell is great and probably my favorite ruler currently along with Kevan Lannister.

Benjen being Daario is a fairly infamous bit of tinfoil from the ASOIAF subreddit.

I'm half convinced it's a stealth parody of the "Euron is Daario" and "Syrio is Jaqen and Daario and probably Moon Boy for all I know" theories.

I'm rather surprised by that. Coldhands seemed a perfect fit for being Benjen.

Yes.

There are some deviations from the books that have been rightly questioned or criticized, and a couple controversial developments that may or may not be book spoilers. Having said that some of the worst backlash is just book purists being book purists. Some of it is on the level of Tolkien fans howling that Tom Bombadil or the scouring of the Shire was cut from the LOTR films.

I'd recommend ignoring the most hyperbolic criticism, watching it, and making up your own mind.

In my opinion it isnt the best season of Game of Thrones, but then A Dance of Dragons wasn't the best of the book series either. All in all though its still quality entertainment.

Yeah... no.

Of course, making an emotional argument is just as invalid.

Stannis is indeed serving the realm. Why is his being king so important? Because he's a stickler for justice and law. He's entitled because, by law, blood, and birthright, he is king. As well, he is still the only royal who acknowledges that the white walkers are on their way south. He's still the only king that cares about the Realm.

Please, he'll just as soon get everyone killed with that entitlement then serve the realm.

And yeah, Stannis is all about justice. Because burning an innocent child and others at the stake to get what he wants is completely just.

Problems? What problems?

More seriously, without knowing which reported problems you think might be problems for you, it's hard to advise you.

I've always wondered if Benjen might have known who Jon's real daddy was too...for some reason I have that impression.

I doubt it.

At least in the Books it seems the only other person besides Eddard who knew what went down was Howland Reed and he's been a complete nonentity in both show and book.

The Tyrells are only successful in their ability to cozy up to the victor of Westeros' many conflicts. Mace Tyrell's fat arse sat outside Storm's End while the Robert was winning the war. Sooner or later the Tyrells will bet wrong and face a victor who they cannot win over. Sooner or later their lands will know the touch of war and they'll lose what has made them neccessary to the Robert Baratheons and Tywin Lannisters of the world.

Let them come. Daenerys will not say no to them if they extend their support, Targs and Tyrells have been allies before AND there have been marriages between them.

Plus their armies are fresh, and ready for war. Initially they were going to reinforce Renly's efforts but that didn't go so well, but the army was untouched. All the families are pretty much exhausted except Tyrells.

Dorne and the Vale say Hi.

Dorne being pro-Targ is pretty much guaranteed. The Vale will go wherever Baelish directs it.

The Tyrells will side with whoever looks most likely to win. They're rather Frey like that.

I don't think his identity is of any significance. The method behind his sentience seems to be the more interesting element.

Even less so in the show, I don't even recall his name being mentioned, only Jojen talking about his father. Makes me curious how the inevitable reveal is going to work.

I think it would make sense for Benjen to have at least figured it out, even if he didn't know for sure.

I hadn't run across the Benjen is Daario one yet. I'm surprised that one survived into the TV series, considering neither of the two actors to have played Daario is the same actor who played Benjen. Euron I can understand a bit, since he hasn't been in the series yet at all.

I was surprised at that as well. I think along with Jon being a Targ that was one of the fan theories that most people accepted as being legit, unlike a lot of the others. Here is an article on it...

Its not a bad thing, its a game they play so well. Their family and lands remain safe and its the only thing that matters in the end.

BUT they are not fully like that. If they are aware of Daenerys's ideology, they are likely to support her like they supported Renly. They were the only reason Renly had a chance to actually rise up. So they didn't know if he was going to win or not, they believed in him.

Based on the casting calls for Season 6, they're doing the Greyjoys next season. I don't think either is one that anybody really takes seriously anymore. But. We're talking about a fanbase that could probably knock together convincing evidence that everybody is a secret Targ and also Azor Ahai, and Howland Reed is really the High Sparrow.

Dany's ideology is gonna get them all burned, just like the Gardener's were.

Part of Dany's problem is that she's never really gotten around to accepting that at least half her family were massive twats and that they deserved to be overthrown, and her mindset is the polar opposite of Aegon I's, who tried to consolidate his conquest and power by leaving established lords in place and keeping the local customs and laws intact.

I realize the "break the wheel" speech is a show invention but honestly it pretty well sums up her motivations, and why the return of the "Dragon Queen" would be completely ****** terrifying for most Westerosi.
