It's been two days, and I still can't get over the fact that Stannis can beat an army of hundreds of thousands of people in, like, two minutes, but a ragtag team of people completely owned his army.

I can't tell if it's ironic writing or bad writing.

*snip*

The weird thing is that the Unsullied are boss in the lore videos the TV series did. Of course the lore dump is coming straight from the books.

Honestly, I think people are being overly critical of the Unsullied. The Unsullied are trained as the lockstep legions of Old Ghis come again, the Greek/Macedonian phalanx to the Freehold's Rome. In all honesty it's not surprising that when forced to fight in small-units in an urban setting, when they can't control the battlefield and they're constantly having to worry about getting stabbed in the back or rocks chucked on their head, they're not as effective. As an example, in "Sons of the Harpy", they -did- become more effective once they were able to organize themselves and form a rough shield wall and cover their angles.

It's comparable to the British asking the Paras to be police forces during the Troubles, something they were singularly unsuited to. And IIRC the same thing happens in the books as the Unsullied start to get picked off alone or in small groups, which is why Dany starts leaning more on the Brazen Beasts.

It is perplexing why they've suddenly forgotten they're trained in short swords, I'll give you that.

On a hotter note:

During that scene in the pit, they should have been at home, flat ground, a shield wall against unarmoured enemies. That should have been a piece of cake for them.

Lawful Neutral doesn't mean burning your daughter at the stake for some special power by a fire god, fyi.

Stannis has broken so many laws it is beyond ridiculous - I believe Westeros has laws against murder.

And, oh, him being a self proclaimed 'king' doesn't change that as I remember another kind who enjoyed burning innocents - he lost his crown. It will serve Stannis right that his loyal sidekick was the one who killed him because of his evilness,

Stanni used to be LN then he became LE now he is either CE or NE or maybe just CN.

He claims to bedoing this for 'good of them realm' but that's self delusion. He is doing it for himself. Plain and simple. EVIL. EVIL TO THE CORE.

I was right. I was right all along. :)

Depends. If he is doing it for the throne or to save the world from the White Walkers.

He wants to protect Westeros from the White Walkers? How 'bout park his 'HUGE' army at the Wall. :P It is obvious that Westeros at large doesn't want him as their king so.. his plan is to wipe out half the population to protect it? L0LZ He's doing the WW's job for them.

If I were a soldier in his army I'd have to think twice serving him. A man/leader willing to murder his own daughter would not hesitate to murder your children - is that the kind of man you want to fight and die for? A man who would happily demand you murder your own blood on his behalf even though chances are that is who you are fighting for? COME ON.

Maybe Stannis proclaimed himself king to be able to order an army around to protect the world from being overrun and conquered by the white walkers?

Sacrificing his own daughter since that was needed according to Mellisandre because his army alone would not be able to do that?

In our 'civilized' real world human sacrifices are not done, especially when those are own kin....

Other worlds have other standards and the world of GoT is a melting pot of believes, magic and non magic where people try to survive their own race and what is coming towards them from behind the wall.

When it comes to the guerilla attack on Stannis's army that is not so weird. His men are underfed, a lot of them sick, not alarmed since the other battles were preset and basically timed. The nightly attack was done by setting fire to strategical places. Setting fire to food and other supplies leaving them more vulnerable then before.

Stannis sees it as his 'job'  to defeat the threat coming from behind the wall, relying on the visions of Mellisandre. The religion/god behind it all is something that would not have a lot of other clans/families follow him since they do not approve of the methods used by it. At least that is my thought on the why and how he fights his way towards his destination which is the north.

I wonder why the white walkers want to leave the icy north to conquer the world behind the wall....They need the cold to survive it seems and the winter that is coming makes that able to happen. Once the winter is leaving however they would have to retreat back again to be able to survive. So what is the point?

Perhaps they have a way to make winter permanent.

Taking Winterfell from the Boltons he can unite a split North. He also knows that only dragonglass can kill the white walkers, hence there is no use for his army at The Wall.

Winter lasts for decades or more in Westeros, though.

I have a sneakns suspicion the Children of the Forest are using the WW to take back their own land. They ruled Westeros before human popped up and messed things up.

That could be the case of course Snooky.

The reason for the wall to be there is that there has been an invasion before but they were defeated and pushed back.

A lot of information about that seems to be lost and people are finding bits and pieces about that fight from so long ago back now. The wildlings have become the enemy and reason for the wall to be there over time...but then the white walkers started to move from wherever they were staying for a period of time.

Rawgrim, the children of the Forest are old gods right? Or at least seen as such and so is the 'god of light'  which Stannis follows.

Entities that have their own agenda and are using tools available to reach their personal goals.

Children of the forest need a green forest, not a frozen one though?

No the children aren't the old gods. More of a race of their own. But some of them are living in the cave with Bloodraven, which I am 99.9 percent sure is The Lord of Light. It is also mentioned that the giants are at odds with the Children for some reason. Might be why they have joined the wildlings in fleeing south.

"Maybe Stannis proclaimed himself king"

Proclaiming one's sele king doesn't make it so nor does it makes others follow you.

Jamie Lannister had a choice - side with his crazy king as was his so called 'duty' or murder his family. He made the correct choice.

\"Taking Winterfell from the Boltons he can unite a split North."

The North will not side with him for long. Stark worshippers likely aren't big fans of kinslayers or crazy fire cults.  L0L

Why do people continue to make excuses and justify Stannis' evil behaviour? That kind of nonsense would be called out if some other psycho did it. Is the love affair so strong that Stannis could literally do anything and people would still support him? COME ON.

He's not doing this for Westeros, the Ream or anything else. He is doing it for his own seflish self. All because he is so bitter over not being the Popular Brother. LMAO
