It could be deception on Harrington's part, perhaps even marching orders from D&D. It's not like he's actually going to come out and say that he's not really dead, or that he is dead and he'll be resurrected in S6. That would compromise the illusion of his death. Could be wishful thinking on my part.

 

That being said, if he really is dead, I'll emotionally check out of the show. I'll still watch it, but I won't be nearly as invested in it.

I am done with everything if Jon actually is dead BUT. 

 

I know we generally think of D&D as cackling evilly as they drink the tears of book readers, but I'd like to think that they're not going to spoiler what has literally been THE cliffhanger of the books for the past four-ish years. They're going to give Gurm one last chance to get TWOW out before Season 6 and resolve it and the handful of other cliffhangers (the Pink Letter, Dany and the Dothraki). 

 

And now for the tinfoil and straws: maybe "Jon Snow" is dead, and Jon Targaryen will rise. They may have told Kit he's dead and go through the motions of him exiting the show to preserve the cliffhanger. He's let his hair grow back in since cutting it back in January. WHAT IS DEAD MAY NEVER DIE *thunk*.

 

EDIT: Oh, and what the hell was the point of Mel showing back up at the Wall then?

If Kit gets a haircut I'd believe it. He has stated before he would like to get a haircut, but his contract prevents him from doing it.

 

Probably the weakest season yet. Episode 8 was top notch tho. The other 9 were average to above average imo.

I'm an outlier, in that Tyrion never interested me much.

 

Jaime is the last man I care about in this series at this point.

Just watched it and while they confirm it for Jon, they never never say it in any definitive way for Stannis.

To be clear, should the question we ask really be "Is Jon Snow dead?". Beric Dondarrion is dead. Until Thoros resurrects him. There's no question in my mind, book or show, that Jon Snow dies. It's whether he's resurrected that I'm curious about.

 

But I will say, based on that Kit Harrington interview, if Jon does come back (whether Season 6 or beyond), Kit's either being kept in the dark or he's being remarkably coy about this. That interview doesn't really sound like he's being hush-hush but is describing exactly how D&D laid out the situation for him.

Atleast Jon getting betrayed happened. I've spent the past 3 seasons trying to get my wife to support Stannis, and then these last 2 episodes I had to deal with that smug I told you so look. She's too busy mourning "Pompeii Dude" to care to rub salt in the wound.

Honestly, my expectation? Tommen's going to kick it, as per Maggy the Frog's prophecy. Cersei's "champion" will get her freed. Between Tommen's and Myrcella's deaths, she'll be driven completely over the edge insane and ruin King's Landing, at which point Jaime will have to kill her personally before being murdered by the other King's Guard, as per his line to Bronn about "dying in the arms of the woman he loves".

The fact that people think they're serious shows that it's not the most unbelievable thing at this point. Martin saying Jon and Stannis are dead is one thing. These guys? Not so much.

This was a great episode. Really felt for Cersei during her walk - its a testament to Lena how much you can root for such a crappy person to get revenge. Jon's death was perfect, with a little added flair with the "hey benjen is important this ep!" trolling in the previously on.

In any case, they did it: Slogged through two thousand pages of mediocre storytelling to get us caught up timeline-wise. Any bets on how much older still Bran will look next season?
