Stannis' whole story gives me Macbeth vibes now. Starts out with a prophecy from a witch, wife is completely cold-hearted, he kills a lot of people to get what he wants, wife kills herself, and then he promptly eats dirt himself

Finally figured out which particular Stark track was used in the fateful stabbing...ends up it was the one for Jon saying goodbye to Bran. Well this one is even more depressing than it already was.

The Tragedy of Stannis Baratheon could've been its own movie.

Can't wait for the Night's King to roll over Westeros now.

Starting with Alliser and Olly.

I mean, it's hard to fight an army when you don't a spine. So it'll be an easy victory for the NK.

What?

Ramsay and his twenty good men will save the day!

Theon pulling a Darth Vader NOOOOOOOO was probably the best thing in the episode

I half expected him to actually go "NOOOOOOOOO".

Obviously the rest of their budget went to the walk of shame, and the Dothraki horsenado that apparently sweeps Dany off her feet.

Yep, the CGI for Lena's face wasn't that great on the body double.

dat nude walk of shame.

Done entirely by someone other than Lena Headley.

For the first time im genuinely rooting for cersei. Shes horrible but the walk wasnt justice. No mercy but no cruelty is my motto. What an odd turn of events.

What? She's likely going to go on an entire genocide campaign on Kings Landing now.

I don't think Daenerys is little miss perfect. She's like the United States sort of. Goes to the middle east, forcibly overthrows the current regimes, then her weapons burn some children, is unable to control her newly acquired territories and a few years later she wonders why everyone hates her, it must be because of the freedom she provides.

Someone needs to photoshop Ramsay into the Expendables.

Is there any main character whose story has been de-railed as much as that as Stannis? They managed to make the North so very boring.

See, I've always kinda sympathized with Cersei. Her dad was a jerk. She was so screwed up in the head from him and the death of her mom that she fell in love with her own brother, while vehemently hating her other brother. She had two nice kids but one nasty one and at one point he was King over her, making threats against her. She was basically told from the time she was little that she'll be nothing more than a princess married off to some a-hole king or another - that she is not allowed to actually rule. Though if you think about it, she would have made a far better ruler than the mad king, Robert, Joffrey, or Tommen.

It's funny how a few characters are like, "Oh Tyrion you would be the perfect ruler!" All the while I wonder if Cersei would be better than him since she has more self control. I mean, Tyrion's tendencies kinda remind me of Robert's. Both are pretty indulgent drunks. Cersei isn't really like that.

She also never struck me as a person who favored cruelty like Joffrey did. On more than one occasion she chastised him for being so irrationally cruel - telling him that it won't help him as a king. She wasn't even happy that Joffrey chose to behead Ned Stark. Remember? That upset Cersei in the moment. Countering that, she isn't a giant baby/pushover like Tommen - acting all weird and hipster-Ghandi about the out of control religious fanatics. Didn't even lift a finger to save his own (hot) wife! Nevermind his mom! ha. And she's really not like Jamie. He's fairly self centered, I would say. Cersei rarely thinks of herself, if you think about it. My god, she endured starvation and thirst so as to not de-legitimize Tommen's claim to the throne. She even walked naked through a crowd of people throwing poop at her. She wasn't about to admit to her affair with Jamie, and that wasn't to protect herself. She was already in a position of pain and suffering. She was protecting her family name. I am pretty sure Cersei would endure torture and death if it meant protecting the family name. As a ruler, she would presumably feel the same about the kingdom that should come under her own legacy, since all the citizens beneath her would become her proverbial "children." (I'm not saying she'd suffer and die for them, but there would be a certain degree of their pride connected to it all that she would fight to maintain. It's an insult to be a shitty ruler and have the people despise you. But she's never been given the chance to rule, so all the hate aimed at her was spawned by Robert and Joffrey.)

Now her daughter is dead. A girl who didn't do anything to anyone. Not once. The people (previously ruled by Robert and Joffrey) just showered Cersei's naked body in human filth. All their pent up rage was totally the fault of her dead husband and dead son. Her current son is on the throne but he's useless - and he's married to a woman who hates Cersei. (Not that Margaery is without good reason to hate Cersei. But still - that really sucks when you add it all up.) And now it looks like Cersei's only friends in the world are a crazy doctor and a giant zombie. I mean, seriously. Those are her only friends. Jamie is coming back, but is he really her friend or is he just super horny for his sister? I dunno. He's a questionable guy.

So, yeah. I always felt bad for Cersei. I'm not saying she's 100% sympathetic. She's a total b*tch most of the time. But everytime she's a b*tch, she always has a solid reason. It's never completely out of left field, irrational, or uncalled for. The woman has seen some sh*t. (no pun, regarding season finale)

Huh? But she's had the chance to rule. She's been ruling since Tommen took the crown, despite every halfway intelligent person's advice. And in her short time as Queen Regent she's ruined Tywin's alliance with the Tyrells and Tyrion's with Dorne. She's not dense like Joffrey in that she's capable of understanding consequences to a degree, but she consistently forgets about them when they're in the way of her vengefulness or ego. Her feelings are understandable at times, but she takes them to the point of narcissism. And she is cruel, she loves a bit of cruelty when somebody's pissed her off.

Tell you what annoyed me, Jaimie telling Myrcella the truth. If that was going to happen it should not have been handled in two minutes. "This is awkward but I'm your Dad". "Yeah, that's cool."

About the Macbeth/Stannis thing, I totally agree.  I think that his entire story (book and show) is supposed to be about a "good man" who gets seduced (both sexually and for power) and it ultimately leads to his downfall.  That's exactly what happened.  He starts with 'noble' purpose but gets distracted as seductive words get whispered in his ear.  Melisandre seduces him into the fantasy that he's more than he is and it ends up being his downfall.  I suspect that this is exactly where it's going in the books as well, but it won't be as ham-fisted and clunky and will hopefully not make him look like a total fool like showStannis was.

Being seduced into trying to defeat the white walkers isn't a bad thing, whether it works in the real story or not. He is more than he is just because he's the only one who gives a damn. Even Tyrion can't really be bothered.

edit- Someone brought up the part in ADWD where he sees himself in ashes. He doesn't think he's Azor Ahai. He knows that he isn't. I figured Melisandre would end up burning him if/ when she figures out that Jon is the real AA. Let GRRM give us a story like that, not some pointless melodrama that makes both him and Brienne look like buffoons.

Taking everything into consideration that relentless sister with her two word vocabulary might be my favourite character this season, along with Jon and the Night's King.  =]

Nah. Stannis needs to live. He needs to help whoever's on the throne actually lead these kingdoms back in the right direction.

Ever wonder what Book Stannis did to the show's writer(s) to earn his/their disdain? Did he kill his dog? Burn down his house? Say mean things about Daenerys the prefect?

All of the above.

The Dog was guilty of treason, the House was a den of bandits, and saying mean things about Dany is the height of Justice.

This naturally put him on their **** list.

Less than nothing.  He has no heir to carry on the fight.  Nothing to hold his army together.

Yeah this sort of seems like the equivalent of MacBeth murdering the king... and then he an his entire family are immediately executed in disgrace.
