About Sansa- I never hated her from reading the books, just felt very sad that it was not safe for a child to have child-like dreams and naive trust in that world. They all grow up too fast and with stakes too high.
I agree. In my view, Sansa didn't "betray" her father -- all she did was complain to Cersei that Ned was sending her and Arya back to Winterfell! It was the equivalent of running to Mom when Dad tells you something you don't like. Sansa had NO idea of all the machinations going on around her; all she really did was give Cersei a bit of a head start in countering Ned's moves. It was stupid Ned that told Cersei exactly what he intended.

Everybody gets screwed over, but not everybody dies. At the point I read this event in the books, I started to think GRRM was going to kill everyone and maybe do a big time skip, but that's not the case.CalJones wrote...
I've not read the books so I've watched the whole thing unspoiled. I've been surprised constantly at how things have gone. Which is a good thing, I think, but it does seem as though all the characters I actually like are getting killed or screwed over.

You'll have Davos next season. One of my favorite characters. Not sure how they are going to depict him though.

Check out some of the art by John Picacio for the 2012 ASoIaF calendar. It is awesome.
This is his Arya.
Seen it on Amazon over here. Think I'm getting it.

More of that calendar's art, this is the Hound- and more like I pictured him in the books. The actor is doing a good job at portraying him as soulless (and with Sansa, creepily so), but the makeup on him is so subdued that he is not as terrifying as I'd always pictured him.
*snip*
Yeah, I pictured his burns a bit more vivid but at the same time, if they went all out I think he'd end up looking too much like Two Face from Batman possibly. Then again, how toned down his makeup for his scars are makes me wonder how far they'll go with certain other characters in the future or if they tone down that too.

Well there's Bran...Seagloom wrote...
Not bad. I imagined him as slightly less grotesque. What other characters will this calendar include? Other than Tyrion, Cersei, Jon, Dany, and Melisandre who are always a given.

And Ned's on the cover

The body count is, I think it's safe to say, the highest of any series I've ever read. I'm talking major characters, particularly people who seem to be some of THE major characters, at least when you meet them.
I mean, the man kills Robert, Ned and Drago in one book - and every one of them seemed, on my first read of that book, to be seriously important players in this series.. Addai I'm sure knows who else goes in later books, and while I won't say who, I will say the numbers are, IMO, staggering.
Rule of thumb - don't get attached to ANYone. And don't be surprised when, as Addai said, even those who live get screwed over in a major way. See, for example, Bran.
GRRM really brings a healthy dose of realism to an otherwise happy happy joy joy series. It's just a shame his writing pace is so glacial. The man could seriously be an amazing writer.

That's pretty complete, IIRC. I do think the Hound did die - he got Ser Berric'ed.
I'll also add - the Red Viper is dead, too. That's the only addition I can remember right now.

Yeah...if any characters seem to have thick plot armor its Dany and Jon, IMO. I'm half expecting GRRM to do something crazy to shake things up there.

Indeed. I am one of them as well.
Question, for you and anyone else who has read the books (regardless of your view on this issue, if you have one): Is there anyone alive now who knows the truth of the R+L=J question? I seem to think Howland Reed may know . . . but I'm not sure . . . .

One of the Daynes perhaps? Someone had to know whether Wylla had a child or not. Howland Reed is the other only possibility.TJPags wrote...

These discussions always remind me of Alistair-Fiona discussions.
And, the whole thing makes me verklemmt. I like the Targaryens. I'm re-watching "Baelor" now and got misty when Maester Aemon was telling his story. I also really liked Daenerys' line "I was never nothing." You can tell she's still trying to convince herself. I hate it when people say Dany is a Mary Sue. She's so not.
