Not really. The Winds of Winter is most likely out next year. If the show runners hadn't rushed season 4 and 5 ahead like they did, they wouldn't have had to go all fan-fiction. 1 season for book 1,2,4 and 5. 2 for book 3.

I think TWoW will almost certainly be out before the next season. But ultimately the show is still going to finish before GRRM finishes A Dream of Spring. I do wonder why they threw so much stuff out while introducing other pretty weak plots however.

I don't think Stannis will die in the same way as the show. Obviously despite the many differences (Brieanne is not going to kill him that early for instance) it is still possible he dies in a similar way, battle against the Freys early in the next book would be the most equivalent way. But I just don't see this happening. I think at the very least he will defeat the Freys and probably take Winterfell from the Boltons via deceit, before finding out that Mel has burned Shireen back at the wall and will then give up his quest for the throne, finally realising that Melesandre has been deceiving him the entire time.

The show will veer off dramatically from the books. They will pluck ideas here and there, and possibly finish in the same way, but it is now largely it's own thing. I'm happy about that because I never wanted the show to spoil the books.

I can't help but wonder too how much of this is Martin's writing being unplanned. He gave them the endings sure, but I would hope he had some outlines of what's going on too, not just "character X dies, and character Y lives in King's Landing". But judging by some of the dilemmas he ran into in regards too Books 4 and 5's lack of time skip, I don't have much confidence on that front.

The show runners tried to pin the Shireen burning on GRRM after the episode. I am sure she gets burned in the books too, but it won't be Stannis who does it. And it most likely won't be for shock value alone.

I really hope we get some more of the fantastic, new, show-only side-stories that are so vital to the series. Like - yeah, I would have liked to see the Riverlands side-story, but then we wouldn't have room for the well-crafted and fascinating Missandei-Grey Worm romance storyline. That was probably one of my favorites. Those are fan-favorites, and them getting more screen-time was long overdo. Hopefully they'll get even more screen-time in the next series. Another really well executed thing was Dorne, both in terms of fight choreography and dialogue. If they get the guys that did this to write all the dialogue for the next season and have that choreographer work his magic once more, I think next season should be fenomenomenalno.

Yeah it turned out that Jaime and Bronn made less natural BFFs than Tyrion and Bronn. It's too bad, really.

Why does everyone keep saying stannis immolated his kid for food or warmth or LOLz??

He did it because the red bee-otch talked him into it for voodoo powers. Or did I miss something?

The funny thing is: it actually worked.

Everybody is outraged about the sacrifice of Shireen and I'm sitting here, thinking that we either saw an actual god reacting to a sacrifice or some really powerful weather magic... and nobody cares!

I've heard a rumor that if you cross your fingers, you won't hit traffic on the way to work.  And I crossed my fingers on my way to work and didn't hit traffic.  Therefore, the only possible explanation for there being no traffic on the way to work is the fact that I crossed my fingers, right?

The Lord of Light is absolutely real (in the show). The shadow baby is proof of that, anyway. Plus he is the main villain of the story.

Sure as hell it will finish before dream of spring. As GOT will consist of 8 seasons, and TWOW will finish next year, and that GRRM will likely spend even longer on the last book. The show will be long finished before the end of ASOIAF.

Sure, but this is not our winter we're talking about. Winter in Westeros doesn't suddenly stop for a few days or weeks. Yet suddenly all the snow is starting to melt (with the exception of the pile that Sansa and Theon jumped in) and I don't think that "coincidence" is the right way to understand that phenomena.

Not even certain of that anymore. Martin has a lot of plot threads to solve in TWoW, as well as set up the big finale in ADOS (assuming obviously that the series doesn't stretch into 8 books by then). He released some sample chapters along the way, but we had no real news in some time.

And there's virtually not a chance that he finishes before the show, unless someone ties him town to his desk and forces him to write it all. Even if the show extends to 8 or 9 seasons (8 is definitely a possibility), Martin won't finish ADOS in 2-3 years. Personally, I predict the show will be done in 3 years (with 8 seasons) and the books in 6 (1+ year for TWoW. 5 for ADOS).

Plus magic is real in Westeros. Regardless of whether or not R'hllor is real, Mel's magic works. Though, a lot of it probably has to do with the fact that she's a shadowbinder.

And honestly, I find Ramsay's ninja-special-ops 20-man squad harder to believe and take seriously than Mel's magic and R'hllor. But then again, they did have him fight off a bunch of Ironborn veterans with a handful of men, some dogs, and no armor - shirtless even. So it's not like this came out of the blue. Clearly Ramsay was elite from the start.

Thoros uses the same magic too. It works.

There's also the strange lava arm that Victarion has going on now thanks to Moqorro. The "Black Flame" is also capable of predicting the future like Melisandre. Whatever the Red Priests are doing, it is definitely working.

Side Note: We are told about Targaryens being burned alive, now and again. Clearly not immune to fire. Dany just got it in her maniac head that she is a "true dragon" wich isn't backed up by anything. She does, however, survive the flames from the huge fire in season\book 1. Now who has the power to keep someone from being hurt by fire? The Lord of Light. Might be he wants her dragons?

I'd rather they just do season 5 over again. It really did irreparable damage to the story.

Not really. You would rather have it narrowly follow the books and have it spoiling it because GRRM is very slow? I like the changes they made, but like with every story, the books are always better.

I imagine a young adult Ned Stark will need to be cast too, if the Tower of Joy scene happens. Unless they just digitally edit Sean Bean or something weird like that.

Stannis just killing himself off for no good reason wasn't a good change. The Dorne bit was pretty terrible too. And Killing off Barristan was just lame.

Key phrase there is "most likely". It's not fair to HBO that he isn't done yet. Fans of the show, especially those who aren't familiar with the books, expect one season every year.

Considering there was more than enough material to use that excuse doesn't fly. HBO rushed it and cut out a lot of content, a clash of kings could easily have been 2 seasons, instead the condensed it down to 12 45 minute episodes. Woefully inadequate.

A game of thrones they got away with, just, for season 1.

Season 3 and 4 same again with storm of swords. Easily 2 seasons worth of content, instead the cramed it full of irrelevant crap, oberyn turning up in kings landing was a waste, they just pushed in nude scenes every few episodes, they spent ages on Theon being tortured.

A good portion of season 3 and 4 was just pointless and didn't add anything to the plot. Left character plots hanging, forgotten etc.

Season 5 killed Selmy. WTF we've officially entered the twilight zone, the whole collapse of the eastern economy and the conflict of social class after centuries of ingrained slavery is either gone or simplified. The sons of the harpy are a characature and act with impunity because the writers made the Dani's councillors retarded.

Ramsy Bolton and his 20 good men are now the most effective force in westeros, Stannis has an evil twin which has taken his place. Brienne of ****** Tarth keeps popping up like its a game of whack a mole. While the boltons now suddenly outnumber the major houses in terms of cavalry despite being involved in the fighting since the beginning. I can only assume Roose rolled well in his own game of risk and got extra cavalry markers.
