If you remove Selmy from the show. Just wipe out all his scenes. It won't change a thing. The character did absolutely nothing to drive any plot or story forward.

The show tells us Stannis survived on book bindings, dogs, cats, and gulls for over a year during a siege. In season 5 he burns his daughter a few hours after slaughtering his own horses for food. The fact that he even brought his wife and daughter with him to a siege in the first place was beyond dumb. Lets risk the entire bloodline in one go, shall we?

People always seem to forget that Mel wasn't around whispering in Stannis' ears during the siege. Stannis listens to everything she says eventually because she is promising him the one thing that he wants. The weather wasn't killing him during the siege. They were also in a fortified, er, fort. In this situation, he is in unfamiliar land where apparently 20 people can slip in and destroy his plans. No one, not even Stannis, can pull themselves out of that hole without some divine intervention. I think what happened goes well with how his character developed post-Blackwater

You know, Rhaegar started this war of horsesh*t and many people lost their lives just because he want to f**k some northern girl, even when knowing she was betrothed to an influential Baratheon (at the time, the Stags were a powerful house). Jaime did the right thing when he killed Mad King Aerys even though he had to broke his vow, thus saving a lot of lives that day and ended the bad Targaryen dynasty.

Fast forward 17 years after Robert's Rebellion, now for the first time in 300 years, Wh0re of Dragons hatched 3 dragons and Westeros can't even get their sh*t together, because another blonde-haired incestrous wh0re murdered the king and put Mad King 2.0 on the Iron Thone and begin the War Of Five Sh*ts. Joffrey is dead now and Westeros didn't even prepare for an invasion either from Daenerys or the White Walkers assuming the Night's Watch already sent ravens to the south.

Iron Islanders on the other hand, want their freedom from the Crown, perhaps they could manage a truce with Tommen if it wasn't for the idiot Balon being their king and all. Their massive Iron Fleet could guard the Narrow Sea and protect King's Landing from any invasion attempt from Essos..

IMO, Westeros are full with fools and unexperienced people.

I suspect the whole Rhaegar/Lyanna thing is going to play out as a case of star-crossed lovers.  My suspicion (and it's only a suspicion) is that Rhaegar didn't carry her off, Lyanna went willingly.  Gotta wonder what would have happened if Aerys hadn't gone on his murder spree on the Starks.

Jaimie was in a tough spot, since oathbreaking is considered a Big Deal, even for the greater good.  I don't envy him his position.

Again, gotta wonder what would have happened if Joffrey hadn't executed Ned, and had followed Cersei's advice and sent him to the Wall.

Something tells me the Iron Islanders would rather rape and pillage Westeros than defend it.

Had they wanted, they had enough material to fill multiple seasons.

Meeren being surrounded on all sides.

Barristan assuming the regency and investigating who tried to murder Daenerys.

Tyrion becoming a mercenary.

Aeron, Euron, Victarion, Asha, Moqorro, the dragon horn, Greyjoy sucession and the North.

Aegon, the Golden Company.

Arianne Martell's plot.

So much more of Cersei's conspirancies.

So much of Petyr's plots.

Really, the problem probably was that, most people who don't read the books don't remember who Rhaegar is.

Then you reveal that one of his sons is alive. But wait, that son may or may not be instead the last offspring of a branch of the Targaryen tree which was founded over a century ago by a promiscuous Targaryen and who have lead multiple rebellions and invasions against the Seven Kingdoms.

Would most show watchers have any idea what is going on?

Stannis just killing himself off for no good reason wasn't a good change. The Dorne bit was pretty terrible too. And Killing off Barristan was just lame.

Who says Stannis is dead? Altough I agree they really wasted the Battle for Winterfell. Dorne was just boring, altough it can become interesting in S6. Would have given all my money for Barristan + Daenerys + Tyrion scenes.

Right, if Aerys hadn't his murder spree on the Starks he would still breathing and kept the Crown and many people wouldn't have to die.

2, Ned would become a ranger along with Benjen/Jon. The North would never have rebelled against the south.

3, Not all of them though, some ironborn converted to the Faith Of The Seven and willing to cooperate with the mainlanders.

Yeah maybe the views a little too idealistic for Asoiaf world.

Wow, so many butthurt Stannis fanboys in this thread. Several pages in a row consist of nothing but people whining that D&D somehow ruined the great King Stannis's character. I'm gonna laugh when he dies in disgrace in Winds as well, although I'm sure some of you will insist D&D somehow forced George to write it that way.

In other far more interesting and important news, the Tower of Joy has been confirmed as a location for Season 6:

http://watchersonthe...-role-involved/

Castillo de Zafra in Spain will be the setting. They've also pretty much confirmed we'll be getting Ned's battle with the Kingsguard.

I'm glad the Arthur Dayne casting call emphasizes someone who is proficient at swordplay. Ned vs the Kingsguard is gonna need to be the best fight in the series to live up to expectations.

Now watch Bran's Tower of Joy dream cut off right before the R+L=J reveal.

I kinda hope they'll reserve the big reveal for Howland Reed. I think one of the reasons they're including the fight is to introduce his character to us, and George himself said Reed will appear at some point.
