I don't like Tyrion at all. I hate smartass-with-a-heart-of-gold types. Varric is another one
But the characters are all great, if I had to pick a fave, I'd probably go with Daenerys.
Eh, Daenerys is a Mary Sue, Cersei is a 1 dimensional Disney villian, and Dark Star is like Boba Fett but even more pathetic.
Sorry, I have a tendency to shove my opinion up other peoples' opinions.

I dunno what you're getting at. I just said I didn't like Tyrion's personality, not that he's a bad character or anything.
To me Daenerys and Cersei are anything but one dimensional. I have no idea who Darkstar is though, guess it's a book 4 character?

Oh man, now I already read it <_<
Poor Sandor.
Odd that they'd do something like this though, I thought the show was supposed to completely follow the books' story.

You're right. Daenerys is good character and relatable, but they way she unrealistically dodges every situation she meets after Book 1 perturds me. She's a lot more safe compared to all the other characters.
Edit: Yeah, Dark Star is a Book 4 character.

I think GRRM is keeping Cersei safe to fulfill the prophecy of her ultimate destruction. He probably wants to build her up as much as possible beforehand.
I would argue that the Maggy the Frog prophecy was the worst development in AFFC but that's a matter of opinion. Anyway, the reason why I dub Cersei as a 1 dimensional character is because she is shown as nothing but power-hungry and manipulative and her character doesn't leave room for sympathy. Also, her desire for power is so tied with her wickedness that it becomes impossible to seperate the two. She really isn't given much reason for how she turned out that way because as it turns out, when she was 10 years-old, she pushed her best friend down a well and somehow got away with it which just makes no sense. In other words, she was evil back then and she was evil now. I'm not talking about her as person, but as a character. So as a character, she's pretty bad.

Take Iago in Othello. He has no redeeming qualities whatsoever, but who can seriously argue he is anything but a pivotal and well written character? That is more or less how I see Cersei. She does well in the role GRRM created her for.

I loved the 15 minute teaser. Every bit of it. I like that it was dragged out and not disposed of quickly: my worst fears were that the book would be adapted into a movie. A TV series is much better.
Shame we didn't really get to see much of Sansa, among the Starks though. I still wish they weren't aged up, but alas.

Well I've got as far as the dire wolf pups and had to stop so that I'll have some for later, can't afford to buy the full book until tomorrow. The opening in the forest was excellent and I've enjoyed it so far. Hopefully I can get far enough into it that the tv show doesn't give me any big spoilers on monday.Maria13 wrote...

While the Hound is dead, Sandor most likely isn't.

Heh- I only read Game of Thrones several months ago for the first time and I'm generally a slow reader when reading novels in my free time. I tore through the book in a weekend- thats insanely fast for me. So yeah, you might get through it faster than you think

I completely agree! I seem to recall reading three or four of the novels in an incredibly fast pace during Christmas break
