I watched season 1. I must say I really liked it. It has quite an interesting collection of characters and interesting political intrigue.
My favorite character is definitely Daenerys Targaryen. Imo, she had the most character development and I found myself genuinely caring about her. And ironically, her marriage with a "savage" turned out to be one of the few genuine displays of love and affection, and it saddened me when Drogo died, his badassery aside. And the ending of episode 10 with her is just epic. She lost a husband and son (partially to her own carelessness), but she got 3 dragons like offsprings.
Tyrion is certainly awesome. I like Arya, Snow and Syrio. Littlefinger and the spider as well.
I liked Ned, though he was a fool.
All in all, great show can't wait for more. And I think I have a crush on Daenerys right now.
Ah always with the pretty ones with a bit of character and spirit KoP
Don't know who I prefer. Probably Littlfinger? But Varys too... Loved their convos. And then Tyrion. Guess it's a three-way tie. The Brains.
Charles Dance was excellent as Tywin. He froze the screen everytime he came on. Liked the actor they chose for Jaim too: "There is no-one like me." A difficult line well delivered. Can't wait for next year.

The composer is German-Iranian Ramin Djawadi, who's done some movies like Pirates of the Caribbean and TV like the theme from Prison Break. It's lovely stuff though most of the music is very subtle, apart from the opener and track 2 which is from the bit with the Others in the forest (great drums on that one). I think it can stand to be bolder and more lush. Maybe that will be the case in season 2, when they have bigger battles etc.

Ha, what can I say? I can't resist them
Though what do you mean by "a bit of character"? As in she didn't have that much of a character, or that she has an attitude (well develops ones)? I'd agree with the latter and it's part of her appeal. She grows up.
@ Addai
My favorite.

That whole scene reminds me a bit of Theoden either from the end of The Two Towers or as he gives his speech in Return of the King, what with the music and all that:
"I will not sit meekly by and wait for the snows. I mean to find out what's happening. The Night's Watch will ride in force against the wildlings, the White Walkers, and whatever else is out there. And we will find Benjen Stark, alive or dead. I will command them myself. So I will only ask you once, Lord Snow, are you a brother of the Night's Watch, or a bastard boy who wants to play at war?"
Awesome stuff.

Too pretty!!! Drat it all, this isn't Hollywood. <_< She is very tall, but still has her work cut out for her to make me believe her as Brienne.

From GRRM casting clues, Wic-net believes that Gwendoline Christie has been cast as Brienne.

Damn she looks tall....apparently she is 6'3".
I've kind of given up in hoping certain characters will look much how I pictured them. Provided she can be a believeable Brienne acting wise that'll be good enough for me. She needs to look like she can kick somebody's butt too- I just hope she's not just super tall but also kind of built like Brienne is described. There would be nothing worse than a super tall but lanky Brienne trying to swing around a sword.
I'm sure with a little makeup (or less makeup) they could make her look more like Brienne from the books. I really want to know who they're going to get for Stannis, Melisandre, Davos and Asha. Unless they move things up a good deal Brienne doesn't have a super huge role in ACoK, except towards the end I guess.

*sigh* These are the punches you have to roll with as book enthusiasts.
Here's Gemma Whelan.

There is possible Asha news, too. It was leaked (not confirmed yet, IOW) that actress Gemma Whelan has been cast as "Yara Greyjoy," sister of Theon. So it looks like they are changing her name, possibly to avoid confusion with Osha.

Yeah...not a fan of "Yara." Almost sounds like "Arya." Meh....Not really how I pictured Asha but oh well. So long as she can rock out with shorter black hair be a little snarky and look like she can kick butt with a throwing axe, that'll do. The actress looks a little too cute for Asha...
I guess I just picture Asha more like this:

This was another one of those cases where there was hardly any debate.
The day the first batch of auditions went up for the role, we looked at a dozen actresses who were reading for Brienne and one actress who WAS Brienne. Gwendoline gave a great reading, and her look was just perfect. No, when she auditioned, she did not look she does in the photo above. She came in looking... well, like Brienne.
The photo he's referring to is the same head shot I posted above.
Edit: Nice shot of GRRM and Tyrion.

In that interview he said he's not even gonna start writing book 6 until next year.

The overall story is loosely based on the War of Roses. It is sort of like historical fiction, but not quite. Maybe someone with a strongest grasp of this can give you a better explanation.

Yet again, the man is in no rush.
I'm telling you . . . .2017 sounds about right for book 6.

That is the fear of many a fan. I have no intention of rushing out to buy ADwD on Monday in part because I know the next book will be a long time in coming. The man is sixty-two and not my idea of physical perfection. Art should not be rushed, but I have a feeling "A Dream of Spring" will be finished by another writer at this rate.
Hmm hopefully he'll move a little faster, its hard to find a writer to pick up from the previous in such a case, with the same "feel".
