I am less impressed by Stephen Dillane. Then again that may work in his favor when playing Stannis. :P Given his few photos I feel a stunning *lack* of presence. Ultimately acting determines this more than looks, but he seems so... meh.

I'd recommend watching him as Jefferson in John Adams- he was awesome in that I thought.

I keep trying to remember what else I've seen him in.  Maybe I'm thinking of Spy Game.  He's the weaselly bad guy in that.

@Seagloom:  I'm not an artist, but to me her neck looks fine.  She's got her chin up and looking to the side, and you're looking at her from below, but it doesn't look badly placed.  Maybe it's the shading that seems off?  I did think his Jaime was- not like I picture Jaime.  Many of the others are awesome, though.

Now I'm waiting for Davos casting.  Posted Image

The shading is a bit weird in areas, yes. A friend remarked that it looks like she missing a breast at a glance. Melisandre just looks off to me. Too thin despite a vague hip silhouette near the bottom. Too buxom, and yet because of the shading, vaguely flat-chested at the same time. Her neck is the big one though. Honestly, the way she is standing looks painful to me.

I am no artist either, but this looks awkward to me at a basic level. Most of the details are nice. I especially like her hands and eyes. The rest just ruins that for me. The sad part is I rarely notice this sort of thing in art.

@Brock - Sure, if they air it again.

Davos has been cast, as well- Liam Cunningham.  Don't know the dude at all, but he looks to have possibilities.

Maester Cressen has been cast as Oliver Ford Davies.

Seems like they are going for lesser-known names, but as long as they get solid actors that's what matters.

Big name actors could strain their already tight budget. We are already getting shortchanged on battles. Imagine how much they would skimp if some A-list celebrity was attached.

Yeah.. so long as they can act, all is well.

Maybe if they're doing well enough with lesser known actors that means a better budget for dragons, direwolves and big battles!

Edit:

ROFL. Apparently Liam Cunningham and Carice van Houten are both in a movie called Black Butterflies. I can't imagine Davos and Melisandre frolicking on the beach anytime soon

True.  I read a recent GRRM interview where he said he was writing the Battle of Blackwater episode, and though he had to substantially cut from the book's version he wasn't sure if he'd get the budget for what he did write.

While I was posting about Liam Cunningham, it just so happened that the liege lord had queued up a Camelot episode for us to watch with him in it.  He's taller than I pictured Davos, but otherwise I think he's perfect.  He even had me a little misty-eyed in that Camelot episode.

@Brock: Davos and Mel do frolic on a coast, sort of.  It's the dark fantasy version of that scene.

Liam Cunningham is a pretty good actor.

I just googled Gwendoline Christie and Stephen Dillane. I was expecting someone with sharper features to play Stannis. But anyway, I hope they put some good make-up on Christie to make her look suitably Brienne-y. Unless ASOIAF's world is just incredibly shallow, that woman is too attractive for all the sh*t people give Brienne about her looks.

Liam Cunningham? YESH, the badass roman soldier who used his foe's own arrow and jammed it back into her eye?

Brilliant actor. Also known from Centurion and Dog Soldiers. Not sure if people in Hollywood know him too.

Oh, hadn't remembered him in Centurion. I like that movie.

P.S. For those who aren't following, there was a live panel at ComicCon today with GRRM and a lot of the stars.  No video of the actual questions is up yet, hopefully there will be one.  Here's a transcript of some Twitter updates.

Yeah I'm reading some of the stuff from the panel on Winter Is Coming.

ROFL at Jason Momoa on the Dothraki language: "It sounded like Jabba the Hutt and Fozzy Bear."

I must say im so proud someone from my country is in such a huge tv series as this one! Im talking about Carice van Houten, great actress, but sadly in the books I really really hate Melisandre and her wacky religion (loved Davos though).

I finally started watching this show after being told countless times to watch by just about everyone I know.

I don't regret it, I love this show. I'm seven episodes in so far (I read the first book, I know what happens) and I can't wait to see the rest of it. Now I need to get out and buy the other books.

LOL @ your new avatar.  Tyrion trollface is too awesome.

My favorite comment was actually Dinklage's, when they asked the actors how they wanted the series to end.  He answered "Dance number."

P.S. Hurry up and finish ADWD, I want to hear what you thought of it.  =]

Some season 2 news:

Kit Harington confirms an old, old report (we first heard of it around the time S1 wrapped filming) that the production is headed to Iceland: “It was cold last season, but this season we’re going to Iceland,” he said. “It’s going to be freezing, so that’s going to be a bit of a task…it’s pretty grueling stuff for Jon Snow.””

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau apparently indicates some not-from-the-books new characters are part of his story: “I heard they were going to add new characters, but I didn’t know what that meant,” he explained. “I know now. And it’s very cool.”

Executive producers Benioff and Weiss confirm some A Storm of Swords plot details will figure into the second season “They also revealed that some plot details from Martin’s third novel, “A Storm of Swords,” will be used in Season 2.”

Hmmm....given how the cast keeps going up in number, do they really need more new characters not from the books? I'm getting a little worried they're just trying to rush to a certain Wedding and they might take some shortcuts to get there that just end up making the significance of that scene lose some impact.

I'm skeptical of such news, too. I really hope they don't pull a LOTR where they stick close to the books at first to draw in the established fanbase, then go wacky off the rails later on because they got some success and want to "explore."

I wonder if Iceland will be north of the wall? If so, that would not be how I picture it at all, since any shots I've seen of Iceland aren't forested. Hmm.

Yeah...Iceland has the mountains and nifty geothermal stuff like geysers and volcanos and lots of nice scenery but not much forest I don't think. Maybe it will be for more of Jon's stuff with Halfhand in the Frostfangs.

So long as its cold, since the one nitpick that bugged me with stuff at the Wall was how often you never saw their breath when its supposed to be cold:wizard:

I don't watch it, but I happened to see one scene with this hot blonde chick.

Her brother I think, was telling her how he'd let 40000 men and their horses f*** her if it meant him getting his land back or some **** like that, sounds like a cool show...just way to much drama for my tastes I think.

Yaay for Carice van Houten being casted for Game of Thrones!

As a fellow Dutch guy I'm so happy for her! Hopefully this will be the international breakthrough for her and the start of her international career. I've seen her in plenty of Dutch movies and she's one of the best actors from The Netherlands!

Yeah I just watched Black Plague and think she'll do pretty well as Melisandre even if she's not quite how I pictured her from the books. Kind of a ho-hum movie, but she did a pretty good job in it.

I do wonder if they'll give Melisandre some kind of foreign sounding accent at all, what with being from Asshai and all.

Liam Cunningham is awesome and a great choice for Davos.

I'm just raging that I missed out on this...

http://www.scifinow....nes-season-two/

Then again I've a shaved head and have a very blonde look so I probably wouldn't have made it anyway.

I'm not sure what scenes were filmed here in series one. I assumed it was the ones in The Vale and the later scenes around the time of the war with Cat and Robb.

A lot was filmed in Northern ireland, including some of Dany's outdoors scenes.  Others with a more Mediterranean look were filmed in Malta.

Extras Northern Ireland are the ones who put out casting calls.  You should check them out if you're interested, they're going to be doing big battles and stuff this season so they'll probably need a lot of extras.

I'm quite surprised by Dany's scenes, they really don't look like the terrain around here. Its a tiny country so we haven't exactly got diverse landscapes.

I can barely walk at the minute but if I get sorted in the next week or two then I'll definately check it out. It would be fun if nothing else. I may just be the hairy man they are looking for...

If filming wraps in November then thats a good sign that season two isn't too far off. I hope.
