Not sure if this has been posted it yet, just got it off my Twitterfeed. Maybe this is where Chris Eccleson's name came from.

Carice van Houten is tweeting from the set. This is the King in the North in makeup.

In an interview, D & D said they are "working on" changing Asha's name for season 2 in order to prevent confusion with Osha, which sounds like they are wavering on whether to do so. If you disapprove, you might post on Wic-net saying as much. Who knows, they do listen to fan feedback at times. I personally want Asha to stay Asha. She is such a different character than Osha, in a different geographical sphere, and I don't think TV viewers will be that dense as to confuse them. Plus she's Asha Greyjoy. Don't **** with the ironborn!
Wic-net clarified Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's comments about new characters in season 2- they think he means characters that will be new to those who haven't read the books, not entirely new characters. In the interview today, D & D did say that some scenes from book 3 will be moved back to season 2.

Yeah, I really don't get that.
First off, Asha and Osha are never on screen at the same time.
Second, I don't think Osha has even been formally named yet on the show.
Third, Asha is (at least in the books up to this point) a much more major character than Osha.
Fourth, how many times do people even call out characters by their name. Osha is likely just "That Crazy Looking Wildling Chick" or "Tonks from Harry Potter." Just as much as Asha will likely be known as "Theon's sister." I think you need to give viewers a bit more credit.
Fifth, just pronounce them in a more exaggerated fashion.
Sixth, its ASHA ****ing GREYJOY. You don't mess with the Daughter of the Kraken.

Exactly. She's too major a character to mess around with. It just wouldn't be the same if it was Ted Stark, and it isn't the same with Yara or Tasha or whatever.Brockololly wrote...

I don't know any of these actresses, but on looks alone, the ones who most fit my image of Ygritte are...
Karen Gillan

Karoline Herfurth

And, with a dye job, Hannah Murray

I think Ygritte should have a unique look, pretty but with distinctive features. Of course I've been totally off on everyone so far, so I'm not making any predictions.

Hannah Murray looks a bit too nice to me - I'm not sure if she could seem sufficiently tough.

Yara Greyjoy will be played by Gemma Whelan.

I'll admit, I'm bitter about it. I want to have faith in D & D, but I hope this does not bode ill for them sticking to the books in season 2. Some of the things they changed/ added in season 1 were good (the Varys- Littlefinger tete a tete before the Iron Throne, for instance), but others stand out as the weakest scenes, like the sexposition with Viserys-Doreah and Littlefinger and his working girls, and the dubious weakening of Renly's character.
I just hope they remember why season 1 was such a success- because of Martin's material.

For a minor character, it'd be a minor issue. I didn't really have a problem with them adding Roz, for instance. But Asha Greyjoy is not a minor character. I'm still gonna call her Asha. They can't stop me!!ErichHartmann wrote...
Honestly a name change seems like a minor issue. I read producers believe Asha sounds too much like Osha. Not sure how people would be confused by that.
Also, changing it to something that sounds so much like Arya?... Ok, I said my rant was over. lol
BTW they have also cast Xaro Xhoan Daxos. He'll be played by Jason Momoa's "Conan" co-star, Nonso Anozie.

She looks the most how I pictured Ygritte. Her face has a slightly more unique quality, whilst the others seem more typically beautiful.

I agree. The reason for the success of season 1 is that it was very faithful to the source material. Obviously things will diverge more as they get farther along in the books, but this sort of pointless change from Asha to "Yara" is just that, pointless and makes it seem like they think the audience is stupid.
And while I'm used to being disappointed in how actors don't match up with how I pictured the characters, this actress looks far too cute and cuddly to be Asha. She might have the smarminess and sarcastic nature of Asha, but Asha looks like she can kick your ass too and is a tough, athletic looking woman. Hopefully she'll fit the role better in her full get up...otherwise, suspension of disbelief and all that- I just hate it when supposedly tough women in TV or movies are little waifs.
And screw Yara, its still ASHA to me.

Mind, I still intend to rake a fine-toothed comb over every character and sourly point out where they differ from their novel counterparts; and how that makes them suck or rock.

If they are bent on referring to her as Yara, I will refer to her as Yara. I do not see GoT's cast as exact replicas of ASoIaF's characters. Several of them diverged from their novel counterparts in the first season. Some in subtle ways and others bewilderingly. As none of the characters are completely accurate conversions, I can compartmentalize them as separate entities in a very similar but divergent universe. I expect those divergences shall increase as seasons pass.

I don't suppose you've already done that for the first series/book somewhere in this thread? I'd actually be interested to read an analysis.

Maybe I will do a detailed analysis when the DVDs are out, or when the series is available "On Demand" again, if anyone really cares. XD
