Actually, while I don't at all see the point of this name change, it doesn't bother me that much. Really, in the scheme of things, her name is not relevant at all.

I'm more bothered by invented scenes, such as Cersei and Jaime at the start of episode one, some of the meaningless sex episodes (Littlefinger and his ****s, Maester Pycelle and his ****, etc), the elimination of half the northern Lords, and general idiocy like Jon Snow wearing white fur over his Night's Watch blacks.

So long as they stick to the plot as written, I don't mind a name change, especially on what is (so far) a reasonably minor character. If they start taking plot liberties, I will be extremely pissed.

I don't mind invented scenes as long as they stick close to the book's flow.  Certain transition scenes are more economical.  I thought the sexposition scenes were unnecessary filler, though.

I think I missed posting a casting announcement.  Matthos Seaworth will be played by Irishman Kerr Logan.  Cutie.  I like that they're getting young actors right out of drama school.  What a huge break for them.

So, we're missing Ygritte (there's a casting rumor that they're looking for a Scottish accent- would rule out Karoline Herfurth)... Dolorous Edd and Qorin Halfhand... Jaqen H'ghar...the other Greyjoys and Seaworth boys... the Blackfish, Hoster and Edmure Tully... anyone I'm missing?

Jaqen H'ghar will be played by German actor Tom Wlaschiha.   He seems familiar, probably from Enemy at the Gates.

Hmm, I was expecting someone with a complexion more like Syrio's actor's.

Didn't Jaime think back to that conversation with Cersei in aSoS? So, it's valid.

Craster and his ladies? Vargo Hoat and the Brave Companions? Roose Bolton?

I do wonder how many of the Northern lords they'll put in the show. They need Bolton and Karsark for ASoS most likely. And fleshing out the Mormonts with Dacey would make RW even more terrible, which is probably how they want it.

Oh gods the laughter. The laughter! I felt my blood pumping on overdrive while watching that. Best laugh I had in the last *month*. Maybe it's because I played every Squaresoft RPG under the sun back then. The style was as hilarious as the subject matter. Wish I could pick a favorite scene, but the whole video was pretty funny. :o

Anyone seen any news on when the DVDs will be released? Amazon.co.uk still doesn't have a release date up, or even age rating yet.

Maybe they're waiting until closer to Christmas, because, well... Winter is coming.

Expect to see it next year within two weeks of season two's premiere. Cable shows always seem to release on DVD within that time frame. They probably do it to capitalize on a new season's buzz to drum up sales.

These have been on Winter Is Coming for a bit, but I'll post them here since they're pretty cool to see. 2 videos showing the special effects/CG work on the show with some before and afters.

Its always surprising to me to see just how much CG they actually use in stuff like Winterfell or other scenes like that to fill out the background. Very cool stuff.

Oh, and Roy Dotrice has been confirmed as Pyromancer Hallyne- Dotrice being the voice behind the audiobook versions. ANd I guess he was to be Pycelle at one point too.

One small casting announcement- Roy Dotrice will play Wisdom Hallyne, head of the pyromancers.  It's a fan favorite since Dotrice does the audiobook readings of the books and he is supposed to be very good in that.  He was supposed to have played Maester Pycelle but couldn't due to health reasons.  edit:  Brock got the jump on me.

What If "Game of Thrones" Was a Buddy Comedy?

This video had some clever editing. Pretty silly tho'.

I'm glad they didn't go with Roy Dotrice for Grand Maester Pycelle. Maybe it's because I'm used to the Pycelle we got. He doesn't look decrepit enough. >.<

Via Wic-net, it appears one of our Ygritte possibilities has actually been cast as Gilly.  Hannah Murray's management website lists her next role as "Gilly."  edit:  HBO has confirmed it.

Looks perfect to me.

More casting news.  We have a Dolorous Edd!  Whew!  There was some speculation he might be cut.

Ben Crompton

Posted Image

There was also a young guy cast for a character called Alton Lannister.  There is no such person in the books, but Wic-net speculates he might be subbed in for Cleos Frey, who is half Lannister in the books.  Cleos was captured along with Jaime.

SPOILER

Cleos Frey doesn't do much in A Clash of Kings, but in A Storm of Swords, he is sent off with Jaime and Brienne.  If they're casting him now, it probably means they are moving this story line up to season 2.  I think it could work.

This is still preliminary, but based on a GRRM casting clue, Wic-netters are guessing Irish actor Michael McElhatton for Roose Bolton.

WTF happened to my image?  Anyway...

Those guys seem good for Dolorous Edd and Bolton. The big thing with Bolton has to be his eyes- I never pictured him as outwardly nutty but his eyes and demeanor need to seem almost too calm and detached and sort of unsympathetic. He's got to be a bit of a creep, what with the leeches and all.

Ramsay on the other hand is just outwardly a creep. I'm guessing they'll have to cast Ramsay too for this season, what with "Reek." But I can see them probably finding a way around that.

Whoever plays Roose needs one thing . . . . a lack of expression.

That's the thing that stands out to me about Roose . . . .his calm demeanor, and lack of visible reaction, that never lets you know what he's thinking.

This video of Michael McElhatton has some shades of Roose, IMO. Mind you, its a comedy video, but some of the lines/expressions make me think he can do the cold creepiness of Roose Bolton.

Here's Ben Crompton being rather dolorous!

And Hannah Murray... she'll make a good Gilly.

So we're still waiting on Ygritte, Vargo Hoat, Ramsay, Craster...  They're not being terribly forthcoming here, since they're already shooting.
