You may have to watch it a couple times for your brain to fully comprehend what the hell is going on in that video(like the Communist Panda holding his ADWD copy in triumph).

Most of the reviews have been glowing, with a couple exceptions. NY Times and WaPo both trotted out reviewers who know jack about fantasy writing and treat it like it's just for kids playing D & D in their parents' basements. The NYT review is especially dumb and insulting, calling it "boy fiction" and saying they threw in the sex just to attract women who otherwise wouldn't watch. I won't link it, but GRRM wrote a nice nod to his female fans in response.

And here I thought fantasy was a legitimate literary genre worthy of scrutiny. Ah well...
But back on topic, the Game begins tonight people! Be sure to ready your DVR's and Tivo's.

a couple days old, but this should be of interest. I always thought of the Stepstones as an island chain, not as a loose cluster, but immensely cool either way.
Haha- thats great- I love the quote they put under Hodor's picture:
"Hodor."

Nice reply by GRRM. Le sigh. Sad I can no longer take the NY Times seriously. If it is not a scandal, it is something like this. I used to love reading the Times as a teenager. I even kept up with it during my stay across the country. They had several good writers working for them. I particularly enjoyed their science section. Now I no longer bother with it. On the bright side, GoT tomorrow!

That's hillarious seeing as there was just a big article about how women are powering ratings and sales for sci-fi/fantasy television shows, focusing almost exclusively on the upcoming Game of Thrones.

Given the positive reviews that have come out for the pilot, I'd say that your excitement is pretty much justified. I hope this show also brings new fans to the series. I barely knew about Tolkien till I watched Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Yeah, I used to read the online version every day when I lived overseas. No more. I think they like controversies like this. Page views over professionalism.Seagloom wrote...

We aren't having a viewing party, but got our new flat-panel and HBO set up in time and will definitely be re-watching.

Wait - GRRM responded to Damon Lindelof? I can't find it anywhere - link please.

hopefully HBO will set up some kind of internet streaming subscription service soon to compete with netflix, hulu plus and internet piracy.

lol. Intolerance of fantasy is one thing (people are entitled to their views when it comes to fiction), but sheer ignorance is another. If you're a book reviewer, this is your profession. Get with it. This would be akin to a movie reviewer saying that he didn't know anybody who likes films with subtitles: it's fair to dislike them, but it's factually wrong to say that everybody else agrees with you. Foolish.
