The Reek ADWD chapters are going to be disturbing as hell to watch.

Although I really dislike Shae. I never liked her much in the book either, but in the show I just find her and her actress rather obnoxious. Same goes with Ros.

I think it was fine. The book's prologue is kind of abrupt and slow, too. You have Cressen mumbling over the comet and I remember thinking "who is this old guy and why do I care?" The scene with Cressen and Melisandre is a must, I think. It sets up Melisandre as someone who's got mysterious power.Brockololly wrote...
Anyway, I really enjoyed the episode. I thought it moved along really well and did a good job of setting up everything for subsequent episodes. My main complaint would be how they handled the intorduction of Dragonstone and Mel, Davos and Stannis. Its sort of an issue thats present in the prologue of the book too, in that you're just tossed in with these new characters, but its doubly so in the show where they skip straight to the burning of the Seven and they don't do much to set that up.
Then you have Cressen's death which just comes across as really odd and almost pointless since they did next to nothing to set it up. I almost wonder if they wouldn't have been better off just cutting that completely.
Carice van Houten is not how I pictured Mel at all, but I think she'll grow into the role, just as Lena Headey did with Cersei. A lot of people said the same thing about her but Headey's acting is just fantastic, as she showed in this episode, particularly with Tyrion but also Joffrey. But otherwise, Mel, Davos and Stannis were better than I could have hoped. They seem to have nailed Stannis' personality- I loved the scene where he's getting all OCD on the letter. And little touches like Mel's ruby glowing were nice. She looked pretty good, I must say.
Yes, I would have loved a renegade interrupt on her too, like the Hound coming up behind her and tossing her off that balcony.Although I really dislike Shae. I never liked her much in the book either, but in the show I just find her and her actress rather obnoxious. Same goes with Ros.
I know, me too! ManceI just got excited when they brought up Mance Rayder and the King Beyond the Wall. Ugh...I can't wait for next season already.

Yes, that was Ros. The funny thing was that her "coaching" of the prostitutes was almost word for word the same things Littlefinger said to her in season one. So apparently Ros is moving up in the world. I think she's going to become our smuggling madam.Seagloom wrote...
Did Ros show up this episode? For a moment I thought that brothel madam character was her, but it's been too long since I've seen that actress's face to be sure.

Wait...is that Ygritte pic a real deal? She looks like a model from some Scandinavian Angels 2012 photoshoot or something. Way too cute, way too clean, way too hot.
But hay it's HBO can't have dem girls who kiss homely.

It's still possible. They seem to rearrange a lot of dialog on the show.k177sh0t wrote...
Shame the first episode did not include a few more conversation lines between Cersei and Tyrion when they met at the council table

Honestly though, I'm tired of Joffrey's character. He's boring and clearly designed to just be hated and I'd rather he die very soon.
I am not a huge fan of the Starks, but Robb is growing on me. Somehow though I think he'll screw up.

If Melisandre is native to Asshai, shouldn't she look Asian? Isn't Asshai the equivalent of China?

You have no idea.
No, people from Asshai have pale skin and often have red hair. So she's par for the course.virumor wrote...

At the moment, I'm saying in my head that Rob trusts Theon Greyjoy a bit too much.
It might make sense for the Iron Islands to join his rebellion, but it's equally easy to buy their loyalty, especially when the Lannisters are involved.
Or I could just be overly cynical, we'll see.
Wasn't it implied (on the show) that Joffrey ordered that attack? I'm pretty sure in the book it was assumed to be Cersei who did it. But they may have hinted that it was Joffrey at some point, I can't remember. The TV series likes to amplify subtleties.Lakhi wrote...
The infanticide scene... gah, I'd forgotten about that. It REALLY made my blood boil at cersei (as I just loathe things like that).
I was planning on rereading ACoK but I think I'll hold off and maybe just reread ADWD.
