Not only was it gross, but it pushes LF into strange characterization angles. I just have no idea what they are doing with his character.
Yea I didn't like it either. It was too blunt and exagerrated an
attempt to remind us of his character. If the aim was to remind people
that they should hate him, then it's completely unnecessary as I doubt
they forgot what he did with Ned.
I' m not seeing how HBO's Littlefinger would differ from book version all that much. Martin's Petyr does run atleast one brothel and views it as an excellent source of income. In Game of Thrones(the book) it is pretty heavily implied he sees them working girls as his property, his investment, his whöres.
Littlefinger has never gotten any of his own POVs. Readers see him exclusively through eyes of people who are of higher birth and stature. I thought it makes perfect sense he is all charm, silk gloves and quick wit in such surrounding..
...and turns into a cold, cruel ässhöle when getting to toy with people who are below him, or working under him.
I've always had really hard time imagining what it feels like to watch GoT without having read the books. Considering the vast pile of main characters and how series has been off screen for ..what, 10 months now, I'd guess more or less subtle reminders of who is and who isn't an utter arse are pretty welcome to people who haven't read the books.
I think at least some portion of Littlefinger&teh harlot - scene was about underlining Joffrey's exceptional cruelty. They wanted to make it clear what he did, what he ordered isn't viewed as business as usual even in brothels of King's landing. Calibration of cruelty of sorts!
...But yeah surely it was mostly about " Hay don't forget, Littlefinger is a basterd!"
