Have to say, the Gendry/Arya thing is a little weird, but iunno there's some chemistry going on there. Maybe in a few years Maisie.LPPrince wrote...

I don't think people have a problem with the scene, we were discussing the fandom "shipping" them romantically. Of course fandom ships everyone and their brother/ cousin/ horse, so there you go.makenzieshepard wrote...
What are the issues people have with the Gendry/Arya scene? Because it's almost wholly true to the book conversation with the biggest difference being when it takes place. I've decided to reread A Clash of Kings and I ran across that scene last night and I was thinking the difference would be bigger from what everyone was saying and I remembered.

A little bit, yes, but that really goes for the most commonly seen fanarts of all characters, ASoIaF and otherwise. If you go by most (sadly not all) of the officially sanctioned artwork however you get depictions that while naturally most probably only rarely exactly like you pictured them in your head are typically very reasonable approximations to GRRM's descriptions, but the actor they have for "Yara", FSM bless her, doesn't look anything like Asha at all. Obviously facial likeness to the respective book character should always be merely a bonus, not the driving decision behind casting, but she honestly looks like a common rock wife or salt wife, not a warrior captain commanding a ship, let alone the Iron Fleet. Truth be told, she reminds me of the pub lady in Little Britain, only with less of a witty personality (judging by what little we've seen so far).KnightofPhoenix wrote...
The fan versions are too pretty / sexy. Imo.

I don't have a problem with the actress not fitting that fan art. KoP is right in that most of those are too beautified. My issue is with the acting. Yara is devoid of Asha's bearing. Where is her strength and pride? Where is her confidence and condescension?
Unless this actress nails the scene when Asha introduces Theon to her "husband"--assuming that scene is kept, I'm not holding out any hope.
Theon turned to give her an appraising glance. He liked what he saw. Ironborn, he knew at a glance; lean and long-legged, with black hair cut short, wind-chafed skin, strong sure hands, a dirk at her belt. Her nose was too big and too sharp for her thin face, but her smile made up for it. He judged her a few years older than he was, but no more than five-and-twenty. She moved as if she was used to a deck beneath her feet.

All he could do was stand and gape at her. Asha. No. She cannot be Asha. He realized suddenly that there were two Ashas in his head. One was a little girl he had known. The other, more vaguely imagined, looked something like her mother. Neither looked a bit like this...this...this...
"The pimples went when the breasts came," she explained while she tussled with a dog, "but I kept the vulture's beak."
Theon found his voice. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Asha let go of the hound and straightened. "I wanted to see who you were first. And I did." She gave him a mocking half bow. "And now, little brother, pray excuse me. I need to bathe and dress for a feast. I wonder if I still have that chainmail gown I like to wear over my boiled leather small clothes?" She gave him that evil grin, and crossed the bridge with that walk he'd liked so well, half saunter and half sway.

Fans imagined Bra-armor wearing " warrior" straight from fantasies of 12 year old geek boys and/or cover of some R.A Salvatore novel and got a more ordinary woman instead:(Brockololly wrote...

Yes it is hard to take in some of the changes. Why do they feel the need to ruin a perfectly good story that is in the books? Season 1 was very faithful to Game of Thrones, besides some differences. Here's it's like they are making freaking huge differences.
I mean seriously Stannis having sex with Melisandre?

..Ok t'was unfair, some of them are real good.
I don't remember her from books that accurately but..is her beauty and smoking hotness by our standards so well established there? IIRC Theon's exceptional lust for her was mostly due to way she carries herself, so to speak? I think it likely Theon feels exceptional lust for whicever woman is nearest:p

In ASOS, Melisandre heavilly implies she and Stannis had sex.Aeowyn wrote...
