Agreed!  When I began reading this announcement I was prepared to be frustrated, because I hate it when I buy a product and then an incentive comes out which makes me feel I should have waited, but including people who already own the game is a very cool turn of events.  Mind you, I already own both games, so this doesn't do me a lot of good (and all my friends own both games as well ... we're a Bioware friendly group) but I still think it quite cool.

As yet another person who already has ME2, I guess the lesson to be learnt is not to be an early adopter.  I'm still tempted in that regard by decent collector's editions, but if the DA2 Signature Edition is a sign of things to come I guess I might as well not bother.

I am kind of scratching my head as to the logic of this offer. The game as it stands is pretty much unplayable. Friendship bugs, quest bugs, cut-scene bugs...

If the goal of this is to draw in new customers, its going to backfire when folks can't play the game they just bought. If its targeted to its normal customers, its going to fail because we already own me2(for most of us).

edit: If they wanted to actually do something for their current customers, perhaps give us some of the me2 dlc. For example, the appearance packs. (silly dlc, that I'd never pay for, but wouldnt mind oggling in game)

What? its a cash grab to get folks to buy dlc? Cerebus, armor packs etc would cost around $40?

Of course I hope that isnt the case

Nah that's obvious. Anyone who falls for that rather than just getting PS3 version with everything already in it, or the 360 version for £9.99 deserve what they get.

I'll PM you with my theory later.

Well.. Anyways I'm off to play ME2, used to have on 360 but it's interesting to check out the difference on PC free version myself. Plus I'm not the type of person who cut's off his own nose to spite his face and certainly not the kind that looks a gift horse in the mouth.

I figure a few goes again in ME2 then might go back play Kotor which like ME2 haven't played in long, long time.

1; DA2 is playable without the patch.

2; DA2 has been patched, but BW has to wait for Sony, EA and Microsoft to finish testing it before they can release it.

3; I like the idea of making the appearance packs available for those who already have ME2. Maybe make it available if you have the Cerberus network, since the free release doesn't come with that?

Ha I am doing the same thing. Trying to get my 'perfect' playthrough. But I am playing oblivion on my pc. Modded to heck and back. Got a vampire mod that allows me to throttle people forceably drink their blood.

Thats one thing da2 misses on. It'd have been neat to have an evil bloodmage type quest for mages. *cough* Sacrafical table + thieves(or slaves) = magic! (Stat bonuses, summoning a desire demon, or etc think nwn2 summoning of a demon)

Well, I suppose Dragon Age II isn't selling comparatively as poorly as some would like everyone to believe....

I don't know about that one. The numbers still seem to say otherwise.

I do think DA2 never got a fair shot tho. It's not great, but nowhere near as bad as some ppl claim. It's gotten some unfair bad rep and it's beginning to show on the rapidly dropping sales.

Nice idea - this sort of marketing stategy I do not mind ;)

I already purchased ME2 (twice, actually - originally for the 360, then PC) so it looks like one of my brothers will be getting this... hmm, how to decide which one. :P

Cutlass Jack wrote...

Well even though I've had ME2 for ages now, its pretty nifty that you're not just giving it away to new sales past this point, but previous as well. Very cool.

Agreed. :)

Well it's playable for you and me. But any number of some of the severe bugs and it CAN be unplayable for those unlucky chaps.

Actually it would've been unplayable for me if I weren't playing on PC and got around the friendship bug.

was browing my email and saw this.

I should check my email more often.

By the way, Cerberus Network access is included for people that had not noticed already.

Posted Image

Edit: It is linked to your BSN account though, so if you are giving the game away then they will not be able to use it.

Can someone answer my question please and that is. I've downloaded this game but didn't install it. How can I transfer this game to my son's computer so he can play it because I do not like this type of game.

Yes - though the Cerberus Network is activated on the account the ME code is redeemed on (as in, your account).

1) Open EADM, click the Settings button (top right, under the close window button).
2) Click Settings.
3) Click the "Browse Game Installers" button.
4) You should then see your email addres inside curly brackets e.g. { an@email.com } double click it.
5) You should then see a folder called mass_effect_2 (or something along those lines) - copy it to an external hard drive, copy on to your Son's computer and run Setup.exe to install.

Hey, that's awesome! It gives me a chance to register it to this account =D My old account had a dumb name out of despair from being unable to find a single username that appeased me =/

Now onwards to buying Origins again on Collector's Edition or just waiting for another one of those >D I want them symbols below my username once more...

Do you need a BSN acc for that or you can get it via EA Download manager aswell?

Anyways, I'm giving a heads up for the dude I've sent the code.

It's linked and activated on your BSN account. You could always try talking to EA support nicely to see if they can transfer the "spare" Cerberus network activation to another EA account though, you never know.

Click the settings button (top right, under the close window button) -> Redeem Game Code.

As cool as an offer as this is I cannot help but think that Bioware is desperately trying to hide the fact that DA2 is no where near as good Origins. Of course DA2 sold more on initial release because everyone pre ordered or had known about Dragon Age from the first game. Not like they are losing anything really, everyone probably already owns MA2 practically.
Seems like making the free version of MA2 is to try an appease the PC players that hate for DA2 and the fact DA2 was made into a console meant game.
But hey, at least Bioware is trying right?

So for the people who still can't launch the game because the DRM hasn't been patched...

I'm guessing they're out of luck if nothing is fixed before April 30? ;)

---

In other news, this makes me happy I haven't yet installed the copy of ME2 I got for Christmas. Provided the download works, maybe I can give it to a friend or something.

So from someone who hasn't yet played ME2 and has been intending to, thanks for the generous gesture, Bioware.
