Not the place for platform wars. Let's stop that tangent right now.

EA have already started one when they rewarded all loyal CONSOLE owners with a huge FU by giving away a free PC game.

Dont you think that if the console owners HAD  a PC, that they could play ME2 on, that they might have bought DA 2 on a PC maybe ??

Just a thought, and I apologise for my "PC Elitists" comment, sorry all PC peeps.

Attempting to hand out free copies of ME2 on the consoles would be... problematic, at best. Microsoft and Sony would probably still want the license fees for each copy of the game, plus a likely additional fee for utilizing their content distribution networks to deliver the games.

And that's all assuming that BioWare and EA have PS3 and 360 builds of the game that don't have to be run from the game discs.

thanks bioware! Just wish I could export my ME1 game save decisions over to ME2 on the PC, but still an awesome move for loyal fans.

Yay, BioWare. Thanks again.

My non-gamer husband has been playing it all evening - on my gaming PC. (He was very affronted by earning the Fashionista achievement. Especially because he didn't actually change any clothes.)

How a shooter got onto my PC, I'll never know. (But it's a very cool game.)

Well, this was unexpected. Thanks Bioware!

I'm not quite sold on the space opera & blaster-quasi-fps genre (prefer to get nice and personal with a sword myself), but I am curious to see what's all that hype about!

How does this work for people who purchased through Steam. It's totally absent from the FAQ. I've figured out how to redeem my code but I can't download ME2 through Steam, it seems to want me to use the EA Download Manager (no offence but I like to keep all my games on one program).

The loyal fans already bought ME2. I pre-orderded and played it on release day. This is an awesome move for noobs to the series.

Thwe LOYAL fans don't really get anything to be honest. We buy Bioware games early and have to wait months for the games to receive patches.

Well at least I got one good game out of buying this craptastic game. I've wanted to make the switch to PC for the Mass Effect series(originally bought it for 360, and regreted it a few years later.) But never felt like re-buying both games to do this. I just may make the switch now that the original game goes for 20$ on the Steam and EA stores(may wait for a better sale.)

How it works is you download and install it using the EADM.  After that, using and/or keeping the EADM installed is optional.  It's not like Steam where it's wrapped in their own DRM which requires that the client be installed so you can play. No, you won't be able to start it from Steam, and Steam won't keep track of how much time you spend playing it, but it's not gonna play any different. It's essentially as if you'd installed a game from disc that has no disc-check. Being able to run it from the EADM window is just a convenience feature, no more.  In fact, it'll even let you do that with EA games installed from disc.

Is EADM really optional? All the information I found on EA Customer Support makes it seem like you must have it to run games you've downloaded digitally.

PS3 yes: a digital version has been on the PSN since day-one.  360 can definitely be done, as they do it all the time, even for relatively new titles.  It amounts to installing the game to the disk, which you can do for any game, and removing the disc check the console does to make sure you actually own it. For whatever reason, they just have yet to put ME2 up on LIVE as a downloadable title.

Of course, that doesn't change all the other issues with dishing out games for free on consoles.

I already own Mass Effect 2, so my brother was more than happy to take this gift copy :)

I do have a question for whomever might be able to answer. In the FAQ it says that the code will give access to the Cerberus and Zaeed DLC as well, it doesn't seem to be visible on my brothers Bioware account in the "registered game content" though. So my question is: Where can he find this? Is it already active ingame?

Thank you again for giving away this great game Bioware. Looking forward to ME3!

I knew that it definitely was for ME2, but I just uninstalled it to see if ME1, DA:O, and DA2(all of which I either bought digitally or got the free digital copy of) also worked without it: they do. Not a one needs the EADM to be installed.  Maybe some of EA's games require it, but not those four.

Smells like a pretty damn desperate move to me. Dragon Age 2 sucks and once again another promotion that slaps loyal bioware fans in the face and reminds us we are wasting our money.

THANKS A BUNCH! Can I get my $60 refund on ME2 instead?

Well thanks for the free game.
Played it for about 8 hours.
And many of the things I disliked about DA2 are present in ME2, except for the shooter bits. The combat in ME2 I like. Also the story is pretty good. The dialogue wheel I'm still not won over on. I can see why they may have wanted to mix DA and ME (ME is fun) However, the gameplay itself is driving it for me. Whereas in DA2 the gameplay drove me away. Along with the reiterated problems (Recycling is good for the planet. Bad for games.)

Probably will finish ME2 soon.

So uhh, thanks :)

Thank you
I follwed the steps and when I did step 4 and double clicked on the file with my email addy I only see two things which are
1- .lock
2-OfflineCache

On the DWEA manger it has the game with "Ready to Play" showing so now what?

As it's already been installed, and the "Keep game installers after games have been installed" option is disabled by default, unfortunately the setup has been deleted. If you want to install it on your Son's computer you will need to re-download it :(

Give it to a Bother/Sister/Friend. If you have none of the above give it away via a social network. If you can't do that then simply ignore the fact that this promotion ever happened. Simple.

Someone else wanted to know the answer to this (long before this offer was available) so I tested it.
You can quite happily install EADM, install ME2, then remove EADM.

Install EADM, install ME2, remove EADM, manually add game to Steam via Games -> Add a Non-Steam game to my Library...

---

For those of you installing ME2 be sure to download the latest ME2 patch. Unlike Steam EADM does not provide pre-patched games.

For anyone thinking "where did the installer go? I want to back it up" unfortunately you need to tick the "Keep game installers after games have been installed" checkbox under General Settings (click the button at the top, right hand corner -> Settings). If you do that you can backup the installers to a DVD/Bluray/External Hard Drive.

I ran ME2 without it running. I think it needs to at least to run the first time then it saves information in a folder (I know where but not telling lol). It uses that file to pull information in when not online or running the EADM. Basically I found the file because of another issue with the EADM before and the way to fix that problem, EA said to delete that file and let it be created again.

Just uninstalled EADM and ran ME2 just fine.

Now I can install an old copy of the downloader again. This version killed another EA game I bought years ago.
