This is why we can't have nice things.

Keep it up, people. I'm sure that soon you'll get your way and Bioware will stop being charitable altogether.

Problem is, it feels more like a cheap PR gimmick. And a lot of console players are upset its for PC only, and the PC players (and most people they know that game) Already have ME2.

Cool for the portion that can use it, not really 'loyal' fan appreciation imho.

Well that's essentially it, I don't think it's designed to go after any loyal fanbase.

This happens all the time though, especially with banks and the like.

I won't get preachy, but the object of the game is to get more and more customers, usually by offering free stuff to new customers.

But yeah, good for the people that may not have bought ME2 I guess.

Exactly.
I mean..."For our loyal fans", come on. That's ridiculous.
The "loyal fans" already have the game. And what's the point in giving them a "reward" they already have?
Oh, and before someone says "Give it to your friend", I don't think that's what Bioware intended us to do. Unless they want promotion and more money from Cerberus Network and DLC.

I'm giving my "free copy" to someone else, and "free" because I had to buy DA2 in order to obtain it.
It's not like they're giving it away. It's not a charity.

Moreover for Cerberus Network DLC, they need DA2 passcode, now if I buy DA2 for myself then why would I share that passcode with someone else ? Giving free copy of ME2 to friend or x,y,z person is understandable but DA2 passcode ? why would I ?

I consider myself a loyal fan; I just wasn't into the ME series. I have Baldur's Gate I&II, NWN + all expansions, NWN2 + all expansions, DAO + all dlc. I'm an old-school pen and paper d&d'er though, and didn't find the mass effect to be too interesting to me. Now, I may try it -- but it doesn't exactly fix the problems with DA2.

As far as ''free'' goes, yeah -- you're right. Valve did a portal promo awhile back, trying to get hype for portal 2, and offered portal for free. As far as I know it was pretty successful.

WOW the backlash just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
Just when the haters couldn't possibly hate anymore.
Bioware does this and its like they murder children or something. No the reaction for this wouldn't be half as bad if they murdered children. Whatever their intentions with this is irrelevant. Its a free offer for people who bought DA2. Take it or leave it but my god this complaining about something thats free is just insane.
You people are insane seriously.

If someone drowned my pet and then gave me a thousand dollars, I'd still think they were ****s.

I would have prefer that BioWare had made the effort to make DA2 instead of trying to placate the masses with a largely irrelevant free game.

I'm sure most people do appreciate BioWare doing this with few strings attached, but the 'haters' as you call them are justified in their continuing dislike of BioWare.

Besides, not everyone even likes ME2.  I bought DA2 for full price and now I have ME2 and find it less than stellar--nothing but a subpar shooter.  So I'm less inclined to really give a crap.

I don't think it's fair to call em 'haters'. I'd say they love Bioware as much, if not more. The only reason why you'd feel so strongly about something is because it has value. They care about Bioware games. That's why some ppl don't seem to be happy about whatever Bioware does as of late. Nothing can really live up to the sentimental values of Bioware of old in their minds.

It's free. Why do you complain about something that costs you nothing?
For those poor people who ME2 not yet have a nice offer. For everyone else, a nice gift for friends who do not have it.

You have to buy DA2. Alas, it's not "free" of any charge in order to obtain it.

I guess most who whine here have bought DA2 already, so for them it is free.

As I see, no one here has asked the real relevant question:

What happens after the end of April when the offer expires??!!

Frankly I am a great fan of DA:O. I have opposed quite of few moves of DA2 on the board. But I DO intend to play it. And only when the price drops to my expectations: $ 19.99. I do not think this game WITH all its DLCs and as a UE is worth more (personal customer opinion).

I think this ME2 free gift bull**** is an obvious ploy to sell DA2 copies somehow that have been shipped to retailers (opinion!). I have decided to not to buy into it. I would be really grateful if they just declare that after this has failed to meet their expectations by end of April they will simply sell the game at low cost. Just will save me some time hunting steam for bargains.

Do it Bioware! Make it happen!

I consider myself a "Loyal cautios Fan". Nice move from BW, with that offer, but I have no intrest in the ME series.
And I think your right, it is a "cheap PR Stun".

And I refuse to download it. Snail-mail me the free game on a disc. I have a bandwidth cap.

Because I bought it already. It's like getting a free burger when I'm already full.

Come on, neither of those work and you both know it. If it makes you feel better there was at least one source that remained skeptical:

www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/free-mass-effect-2-with-dragon-age-ii-offer-2264460.html

"This clever promotion serves not only to boost sales as consumers consider spending on newer titles - Shift 2, Mortal Kombat, LA Noire - but also to increase appetites for Mass Effect 3, due towards the end of the year.

The more cynical might suggest that the giveaway is intended to bolster a flagging retail performance as fans of Dragon Age: Origins voice their discontent at changes made in Dragon Age II, trading or selling their games at lower prices.

Crucially, secondhand copies of the game aren't eligible unless owners then download a Dragon Age II Online Pass for around $10/€9/£7."

Bah, no deal! Sorry folks, you cannot appease me with the gesture of ME2 download. I have the game sitting on my shelf, so I am not enticed by your sugar coated offer.

Yet, I will take a free subscription to Penthouse and/or Playboy. Failing that, concert tickets to Elton John? As a last resort, I will take up your offer of many well planned out patches and free DLC. By the way, I've been passing wind non-stop for the past 4 hours - food for thought.

Yes, I can not be pleased by this. Care to explain why would I? And don't please feed me with this "oooooh it's free!" stuff. They should have first of all released a descent product, not this bug ridden half-baked piece of code that DA2 is. Now they come up with this PR gimmick, trying to boost the sales and expand ME fanbase, and coat it with cheap "to reward our most loyal fans". Why should I be pleased with that? Does that in any way change the quality of DA2? Which I, by the way, pre-odered. I can be displeased all I want, I payed my money for it.

Is it a campaign to sell more DA2 because of lagging sales after the third week? I don't think so. I don't own it and this offer does nothing to entice me to buy it. I already own Mass Effect 2 on a PS3 and would rather play it on a 52" HDTV than my small computer. All of my friends own ME2 already as well. And if I did know someone that didn't have it, why would I spend $60 dollars to give them a PC game that I could spend just $15 for on amazon? So it's not a ploy to increase sales for DA2.

I know I'd be laughing all the way to the bank as well if I pulled something like DA2 and still manage a very healthy 79-82 in Metacritic. Doing the math it probably works out perfect churning out yearly sequels with about the same returns at a fraction of the development costs.

Perhaps they are celebrating the stupidity of their customers?

Cheap damage control mechanism. If Bioware cared about their loyal fans they wouldn't have steamlined the game so badly even my dog could play it.
