I'm going to give the game to my friend/room mate who lives with me. Been trying to get him to play the game for a while now but he wouldn't buy it. So a free version will do just perfectly. I just thought of it.

nvm.

That downloader is screwy. It kept asking for a code but said invalid. I closed it and the download was there for download. Why is it keep asking for a code when not needed?

It's not that I want to be a ******, or complain just for the sake of complaining.
But this seems a bit suspicious to me.

How? Just because they're trying to incentivise purchases (or give a "bonus" to people who have already purchased)? What's so bad about that?

Is the game "givable"? Or is it tied to one PC/EA account/whatever?

I think BioWare should offer some sort of alternative for those who already have Mass Effect 2

Jesus. Only gamers can find something to complain about in Bioware giving away a free AAA title.

Because CLEARLY there are no ulterior motives at work here.  It's not like they'd ever do something like phone in a sequel, right?

There are always ulterior motives behind marketing, which is what every promotional offer does.

But the bottom line for us is that we get something for nothing.

But the bottom line for us is that we get a $20 game that the majority of "loyal" fans already own in exchange for already throwing $60 away.

Emails have gone out to the non-board denizens about the promotion (I just got one), so the system might be getting hammered by requests.

This would be nice, but what would they give us instead?

Awesome. Being able to gift this (or in my case play through ME2 on the PC and Xbox) is just..amazing. This is something I usually expect from Valve, but Bioware? Hope to see it again in the future :D

Nothing, it's not bad.
But it speaks volumes of how "well" DA2 is selling. That's what I'm saying, not "Oh no, don't do it, terrible idea, Bioware!".

I've only got it for 360 but always wanted it for PC after seeing how much better it was on my friend's PC. I planned on buying ME2 on PC so I could play with an imported character in ME3.

Bioware just saved me $30 and all I had to do was sit on my arse and click. :wizard:

How many other developers will give you last year's GOTY for doing nothing. :o

A refund would be nice.

/tinfoil hat on

I'm going to laugh if the version of ME2 you get for 'free' is the one that doesn't have all the DLC included and they're hoping to recoup some of the money they're losing on slumping DA2 sales by getting people to buy the ME2 DLC. :?

EXACTLY this for me. Loved ME2 on xbox and have been wanting badly to try it out on PC but have saved me money for other games instead of buying a second game of one I own already.

I would love to say that I am surprised by the entitled reactions of all of these people complaining, but sadly as soon as I saw this in my email I knew there would be people making these demands that since they already had ME2 that they give them something else.

When someone gives you a gift that you already have, do you say "I already have that. Give me something else!" ?

I hope not.

Thanks Bioware!

Yeah, or how well it's being received by certain audiences. Maybe they're trying to appeal to those audiences, by offering ME2 for the PC. That could be.

Can the code be gifted, or is it tied to the account that has the Black Emporium? Because I already have ME2 on this account.

I'd like to know this as well.

Would be nice to know...

For me personally, I'd be happy with a copy of Dragon Age: Origins: Awakening because I have yet to play through it.

So this was a real offer. Hm.

That video advertisement about this, about 'for loyal fans'; Wouldn't a loyal fan of Bioware's games be the people who had trusted the company enough to have pre-ordered DA2 months in advance, as well as likely have bought ME2 already....so why that phrase? It is as if asking fans to buy a second copy of the game, or could even be seen in a harsher light as Bioware being sarcastic over just who their most loyal fans are.

It's just such an odd phrase to add considering the... forum climate and just asking to be taken negatively, even if the offer was simply genuine good will.

Well it's not like this is some super sweet deal, it's for a game everyone whose interested in it has already gotten and could get picked up for $10 on sale. Plus it's not like there's a clear benefit to owning it on the PC as there is with say a Bethesda title or Origins. Now if they wanted to do something really special and worthy of praise and reward their "loyal fans" they could have handed out the new ME2 DLC for people who register prior to the date.

the code can be gifted. someone has already done so on another thread. I'm trying to find someone to trade PS3 version for this. I can't run games on my computer. I only play games on PS3

Hey, I can play the analogy game too.

Let’s say you bought a car from a salesman.  The car ended up being amazing and much
better than you had hoped it would be.
So when the time comes to get another you go back to that same salesman
and purchase a new car.  Only, this car
is not like the previous one.  This one
is a lemon and has pieces of it held together with duct tape.  The floor boards are rotted out on one side
and it smells like a small animal vomited somewhere on the interior.  But it’s all good, because the salesman just
sent you a free spare tire.

It’s not entitlement.
It’s seeing things for what they are, a marketing ploy (albeit a genius
one on their part it’s all win/win) for a game with slumping sales.

Well boooo. If I knew I was going to get a free Mass Effect 2 code a month after the DA2 launch, I wouldn't have plunked down the $20 for it in February. Oh well.

The offer applies to people who preordered as well.. and if you have ME2, you can also gift the code to someone else.
