Suprised it took that long. This has a lot of potential to backfire depending on how the console communities react.

Agreed. You do understand why the "I paid $60 for a game 2 years ago and now they're offering it for free how could you do this to me!!" logic is broken though right?

I never claimed they would be rational
I don't know about Live but ME2 is already available on PSN at a very stupid price. They could make a discount code for PSN. It's not like they will get many buyers at £47.99 when the highstreet price is around £25.

The truth is a lot people have a really hard time coming to terms with the fact that the value of stuff decreases with time.

This is easily solved by giving all ME2 owners BioWare points in the amount of the value of ME2. It credits across all consoles.
I have to seriously question the intelligence of your marketing department...again.(Bazaar anyone?)

But it would be even more awesome if we who already have ME2 could redeem the code for ME1 or a DLC of choice.

Sounds like a well-planned way to promote ME3 to me =)
This. DA2 has sold more than 1 million units fast that DA:O did, so the people who say this is an act of desperation need to stop and think.

And since we can give it away, we get the marvelous possibility of promoting ME franchise for you for free.
Clever way to boost DA2 and ME sales and attrack new costumers. Win-win situation for you I guess.
If you would excuse me, I better leave before I start projectile vomiting

Now they try to lure the customers to use their codes, so they don´t sell it, after they got fed up with the game. Really great fan support!

Sounds like a well planned way to promote the final DLC for ME2. This really doesn't do anything to promote ME3 which is about 8-9 months away.

Well..... nearly as a great gift as the "Limited Edition" you had to preorder..... so you at least got the "nearly" full - awesome - game of DA2, without paying trible for Day1 DLC.

So to "celebrate" DA2 faster than DAO "success" loyal fans get a free copy of a game most of them already own.

Of course it's a way to boost sales and atract new costumers. What did you expect, charity or something?
Regardless of what the intentions are though, they're still giving away an amazing game for free.

I don't give a damn if it's a "marketing ploy", you're still getting Mass Effect 2 for free. And you're complaining about it. Okay. Gotcha. Makes perfect sense.
