Sounds like a well-planned way to promote ME3 to me =)

This. DA2 has sold more than 1 million units fast that DA:O did, so the people who say this is an act of desperation need to stop and think.

Sales were front loaded with DA:O fans, there has been a horrible backlash of "disappointed" customers (most common word I saw in negative feedback), and the change drop for week 3 tells the story.  Of course they present all this in the best possible light, writing PR is a fine art, that is ironically less appreciated the more masterfully it is executed.

Agree with poster who says it looks to be part of a thought out ME3 promotion.  Going forward, I would not be surprised to see others pop up (like the valve "Portal"/steam deal).  It's a nice sweatner for those who can take full advantage, and it seems it is transferable, so it isn't a total loss for those who have already bought ME2.

So to "celebrate" DA2 faster than DAO "success" loyal fans get a free copy of a game most of them already own.
And since we can give it away, we get the marvelous possibility of promoting ME franchise for you for free.

Clever way to boost DA2 and ME sales and attrack new costumers. Win-win situation for you I guess.

If you would excuse me, I better leave before I start projectile vomiting

It's a free f***king game. Don't bother redeeming it seriously. Believe it or not just because your  a Bioware fan doesn't mean you buy everything from them. Could just as easily give the code to someone else to download.

i ain't complaining, it's a free game after all. saves me having to pay for it again :) although i will say, it still doesn't alter the fact that da2 was a relative disappointment for me, but thanks EA.

Nice marketing EA. Good job there... pat yourself on the shoulder...

I agree. I'm gonna quote as what Chewin3 said: This shows exactly how bad DA II is selling

Whatever. I'll take it.

But it still doesn't excuse the fact that Dragon Age 2 was a subpar effort compared with BioWare's other games.

This has been asked before, but can I give my code to a friend who doesn't have DA2 registered to his account?

Yes, if you want to. Once they have "your" code, they just complete the remaining steps.

80% of people on this forum own Mass Effect 2, why would they need another copy? Sure, people who haven't played these games get a game for free and can make a bargain or they can buy it on Amazon for £5 and buy DA2 for £25 and still make a bargain.

Poor marketing if you ask me.

If someone wants Mass Effect 2 and can hook me up with Dragon Age: Origins: Awakening, you can have my code.

How about "stopping to think" that the faster sales may have been that it's a follow up to a now established series?  I enjoyed DA:O enough to blindly order DA2 based upon faith in them, which I no longer have any more.  There's no way in HELL I'll be preordering DA3 now until it's been out a while and have had time to read up a lot on it.  I'd be willing to bet I'm not the only one with that mentality.

Great promotional move, Chris. Top class you guys at Bioware.

Hopefully this will lead to more people discovering the ME series, those who are perhaps wary of buying a Bioware shooter.

I'm happy about it since my xbox have died and I didn't have ME2 for my PC until now. Also, I really wanted to play it again.

Dear Bioworse.. *cough*.. Bioware, you thank us for "being great fans" and buying DA2 in such a large numbers which you speak of a as a major success.

The reason we bought DA2 was because we had expectations that it would be a worthy follower of DA:O. But you RUINED it and throwing this Mass Effect game at us just shows that you are trying to buy back the "fans" who can be bought.

You could say that you are sorry and that you will do your best to listen to the negative feedback from fans of DA:O, but that wont happen. Instead you claim that DA2 is a success, while anyone with a webbrowser can see that your fans think you FAILED.

Now I got two crappy games! Yay for me! - Dont expect that I'll actually buy more crappy stuff from you before you get back on the right track.

Nuff said.

So, a thanks to fans is giving fans a game they already have?
I wouldn't take the offer, even if you gave me DA2 for free.

You shouldn't be so harsh on bioware, you can give that extra ME to some of your friends which is imo very nice.

And at least they are giving it to everyone who already bought DA2.

Somebody else mentioned this elsewhere but lets say I want to try it on PC and I don't yet own it.  This is a good deal for me.

This is basically to appease people who hated DA2 so they are less vocal in their hate, so basically it's a bribe.

Thanks I'll take the free ME2 but I still think DA2 is awful and I'll voice my displeasure on the forum! =D

Maybe this is a little out of place but...
How about lowering the price on Steam? It's still 60 bucks there.

(I'm a little OCD about having all my digital games on Steam, so yeah).
