I personally think this is a ridiculous marketing strategy. Rather than presenting it as what it is - a way to make people buy DA2 - they've presented it as a 'gift' to loyal fans. Thank you - loyal fans! Thank you for supporting us and buying our games! As a reward, we're going to give a you a game that you already have unless you're NOT a loyal fan, hence making this entire promotion pointless!

As I said, I'd be more impressed if I could get a free download of Arrival.

I like the way you think sir.

Such offers are just like slap in a face for DA:O fans. Yeah free stuff is good, but after hitting 1 million sales, BIO boasts about DA2 success (which they manage to sell that lousy one million only because of DA:O fans hoping for sequel atleast as good as original), which is just an illusion. But yes it's a good marketing. They will sell more DA2 copies, but not because it is good. That is disappointing.

Cool :D now if only you'd do a late promotion where if u bought Origins, you can get ME1 for free :(

Monies been tight so I've had to miss out on a lot of great games lol.

What annoys me is the underlying concept of how Bioware is promoting itself.

Instead of creating quality games, we get a half-assed game and to cover it up they offer a totally different game that can be found in the bargain-bin for 10€

I guess I'm naïve enough to think that a quality product + word to mouth is a better way to get new costumers and boost sales...

it seems that is the actual way this firm is going. As long as it works for them (means makes enough money) they will continue it. Sad but true.

It is not a slap on DA:O fans, it is not related to DA:O at all and to be honest if you can associate this even with DA:O then there is only one thing which it does to DA:O ..... ie it increases the credibility of DA:O game. In order to sell DA:O they didnt had to give an AAA title which is also GOTY award winner FREE....

They're ging away stuff for free and you people are complaining about it?

Wow... just wow...

Who gives a fak about whatever their supposed market strategy behind this could be? It's free.
Do you also complain about free newspapers and kool-aid to the people giving them away on the corner of the street?

Absolutely agree with this ! It is free folks not mandatory. It is just a smart move by EA/Bioware ... we need to accept it.

Oh, this sucks. I tried modding the game by changing the .exe file to "UT3" so I can get AA through the ATI Control Center. This worked before but now the EA downloader thing pops up and says "an error has occurred."

Tell me this isn't some DRM issue with EA poking its nose where it doesn't belong. :(

Now Miranda's ass will look jaggy. :crying:

This reminds me...I purchased ME & ME2 from Steam and the registration key they gave doesn't allow me to register my game here. Is that a Steam thing?

That's odd. I have the DA series through Steam and it let me register; strange that ME2 would not.

My ME1+2 from Steam registered here just fine, I just had to do the right-click "View Game CD Key" thing in the Steam UI.

Yeah, there's a game key there for both of them but they are not compatible passcodes to register the game. They are full lines of numbers and letters instead of XYZ1-ABCD-2345 etc, etc which is needed to register. Maybe it's somewhere else and I haven't found it.

Strangely, ME2 includes a working key for the cerberus network in the right format.

Yes thats very smart move. But that just proves how badly Bioware (and EA) want to make more profit from a cheap (to develop compared to Origins)  game that is not worth it. And it shows that Bioware itself thinks DA2 won't sell any better because it is not as good as it could (well atleast it looks to me like that by seeing such offer).

Yep, that saddens me deeply... I wouldn't be a gamer if it wasn't for Bioware.

I've been following them since Baldur's Gate, after so many years it's difficult to accept some things

My father always used to say "You'd complain if you were hung with a new rope" about people like that.

I am with you on that as far as the quality of DA2 is concerned.

When your game isn't good and is egregiously low-quality, better to distract people with a reminder that your games are usually not egregiously low-quality, I suppose.

I've made the dog food analogy here before, but it's just like when a larger conglomerate buys out a popular line of pet food-- They dramatically reduce the quality and substance of the dog food in order to make back as much money as possible, but the name has a reputation for quality, so they manage to get people to buy it based on the idea of its being a good product, not the fact of it actually being a good product.

Vaguely the same thing has happened a few times in various technology markets as well.

Eventually, people notice that they're spending good money for crap.

Like how you think.

Looked up DA2 on Amazon.co.uk and got a wee bit suspicious there.  Checked out the price history on CamelCamelCamel and sure enough the price had risen to cover the addition of ME2.  Nothing is ever as it seems.

Edit:  Talking PC version here

Agree with that. Biowares name and DA:O were to many people associated with quality and Bioware just used that as a bait to sell as many copies as possible. Now they are using another bait to sell even more of this quality antonym:)

True enough.

But they still need to prove that these low-quality products aren't going to be the norm, or people will start looking for quality elsewhere and Bioware will become nothing but a bitter memory in a dark corner of our minds...

I,for one, think its a pretty nice promo,so thank you Bio.

Even if a lot of DA2 folks here on the forums have ME2 already I'd wager out of the 1million+ da2 purchases there are many who dont.
