Meh, Bioware fail. I'm a bit baffled by this promotion anyway - hey, let's reward our medieval-themed RPG customers with a futuristic sci-fi shooter! Wait...

I'll be honest with you here. The answer to your question is yes. When a company is not producing what you want from them, you move on.Terror_K wrote...
They basically shoved a knife in my back and gave me the middle finger after being a loyal fan for all these years and I'm just supposed to put up with that and shrug it off?

No, I'm basing it on the fact that the DA2 development team deliberately went out of their way to stab hardcore PC RPG gamers who were fans of the original in the back. Several comments from Laidlaw himself outright stated this. What BioWare did with DA2 was an outright, intentional betrayal. It's as simple as that. They basically shoved a knife in my back and gave me the middle finger after being a loyal fan for all these years and I'm just supposed to put up with that and shrug it off?
Fact implies truth of a fairly universal nature. Your use of the word is questionable at best. The game may not live up to your expectations, but please don't make your opinion out to be universal. It isn't.
In the end Bioware will make whatever game they want to. They don't owe it to anyone to make a game that meets their specific expectations. It's unrealistic to expect them to. And I don't think it's the point of this thread either.

Uhh i just grabbed my code and i don't have a computer that can run it, so i was wondering if i HAVE to download it before the 30th or if i can just keep the code untill i get a better computer. OR, could i just use the code and have it linked to my account and download it on any computer?
As far as I am aware so long as you download the EA Download Manager and use the code to activate the product and link it to your EA account you officially own it, no need to download.

As for the issue of moving on etc, the simply solution is to either not purchase anything else, or wait. I'm honestly dubious as to whether ME3 will be any good, so I'll probably wait a few months to see how people react before deciding to spend my hard-earned money on it.

As far as all this nonsense goes, it's a free item - I already had ME2 when I bought DA2, but I didn't lose anything. Life goes on. It's not a particularly good sign that they're giving away an entire retail game just to get people more interested in DA2, but marketing has little interest to me... a game should generally be more important than the marketing IMO.

I have an honest desire to know what is wrong with what BioWare is doing by giving away ME2 for free to DA2 owners. Because I get the impression by many people that it is wrong for them to do it. At the worst, I'd expect someone to simply not care. Or the person who owned DA2 who went and bought ME2 last week to be particularly miffed.
Some people apply an absurd kind of pride to the whole thing, I suppose.
"I was not onboard with the decisions made in DA2, therefore, I won't consider any gracious act on BioWare's part as anything but rightful reparation. Which I'm too good for accepting. At least in public. Whaa-whaaa!"
I am a long time gamer and I'm currently training for possible employment in the industry and I have observed the direction gaming has taken over the years. So even if don't have to buy this "offer" there is still enough reason for me to be concerned. Enough people will be tricked by marketing tricks to buy games they otherwise wouldn't and in the end that gives publishers like EA enough reason to go on and keep cutting corners and screwing over their customers and developers. Marketing has become more important than the games it self and games like DA2 obviously lack actual passion for the craft, as if it was a calculated by a machine that looks at budget+time+brand recognition+marketing as variables. Some call it "streamlining". And this giving away a year old game together with a half assed sequel for the price of one game and making it look like a gift is just another obvious money grab, trying to milk two franchises as much as possible. This should not be supported. All the bad reviews and fan rage don't matter unless people actually stop buying! Money is the only language that people speak now in the gaming industry. The greed from the top is about to collaps the industry as a whole, when developers without unions simply can not be exploited anymore and when people finally realize how they have been brainwashed into buying stuff they otherwise would not touch. The sooner this happens, the better.

This will eventually happen with BW if they continue like this...

Because you can't read the thread I'll post this again since DA:2 doing anything but absolutely failing causes everyone to ignore facts.
1) ME2 is not Bioware's best selling game, unless 2.8 million suddenly became more than 3.5 million, Dragon Age Origins is Bioware's best selling game.
2) MASS EFFECT 2 HAD A LARGET DROP OFF THAN DRAGON AGE 2. As of right now Dragon Age 2's week 3 sales are 18% of its week 1 sales, Mass Effect 2's were only 15%, yeah that's right Mass Effect 2 had a 3% more drop off than Dragon Age 2. So I guess Mass Effect 2 was a commercial failure.
I don't care if you like the game or not, it's selling.
And since people are ignoring this point as well. EA overestimated their sales when Mass Effect 2 came out so their outlandish figure of 4.5 million doesn't mean the game isn't selling well. Mass Effect 2 only sold half of what EA shipped in its first two weeks.
Edit: Sales figures I posted on Page 4. So you don't have to go through the actual effort of changing pages.
ME2 - Week 1 sales = 893,352
ME2 - Week 3 sales = 141,051
Week 3 sales ~15% of week 1 sales
DA2 - Week 1 sales = 669,748 (525,918 without PC sales)
DA2 - Week 3 sales = 123,355 (97,190 without PC sales)
Week 3 sales ~18% of week 1 sales (~18% without PC sales)

Ummm...is your sister cute?
Anyway...I'm a bit conflicted about this. On the one hand, I can see how it could obviously increase Sales and maybe generate new ones...on the other hand, i'm wondering if we all start complaining about ME3 now will we get a free copy of DA2 with it? If so I'll hold off buying DA2 until that happens.

Very true. A free game is never an issue.. although I already have it, multiple times over. Can I however give my product code to a friend? That's what I'd like to know from BioWare. That would be a good way to get a new customer, if we can give the download to someone who doesn't have it.
Just to clarify on this: you can give the code to someone else; however, because the Cerberus Network is redeemed to the same account that DA2 is on, you'll have the DLC but your friend won't.

Bambooz - where exactly are you getting these figures from? Just curious.

^Those are the charts all the game maganizes/sites have been using in their DA:2 sales articles that keep popping up.
Follow the links to the PC and PS3 sales and add them all up.
http://gamrreview.vg.../mass-effect-2/
^ME2 lump sales for PC and 360 because apparently the PC isn't special enough to get seperate sales statistics for ME2.
I didn't include the PS3 sales in my comparision since the PS3 had a delayed launch after the game had already won many awards.
But if you want the math the PS3 drop of was 40%, the PS3 however had a pathetic launch at only ~88,000 world wide in the first week. 10% of the 360 and PC Week 1 sales.

Ah good old VGChartz an organisation that doesn't know anything about anything, making stuff up and people using it as fact. Let me put it this way if VGChartz said "the sun will rise tomorrow" I would still look out my window to check for myself before I believe anything that site says.
As for all this "Bioware giving a free game as compensation for DA 2", if that was the case then it isn't much in the way of compensation
This is actually a very shrewd business move on EA/Bioware's part. They give you the base game digitally which costs them nothing but a few pennies in terms of bandwidth and in return they hope that you will buy some of the DLC that is being offered. Pretty clever if you ask me and I am certainly not going to criticise them for it.
