Nice, 2 copies of Mass Effect 2 then.

Now I have 2 for the PC and one for the 360. Hmm.

But this should run without a DVD I guess.

One has to wonder (despite what Bioware say about the sales figures) why they are happy to give away their biggest and best selling game to date for free if people buy DA2 before the end of April....

Well...we all know don't we, because it isnt selling that well, and is getting worse by the day and sales are falling faster than my sisters pants.

Ummm...is your sister cute?

Was wondering the same thing...Image IPB

on the other hand, i'm wondering if we all start complaining about ME3 now will we get a free copy of DA2 with it? If so I'll hold off buying DA2 until that happens.

I'm no expert on healthy game sales behaviour but considering that it took two weeks to get a million sales over three platforms, I don't think EA's very pleased with the results. I guess they put ME2 along with it to stimulate sales. I've read plenty of times that sales numbers usually don't include Steam sales so I could be wrong, though.

Whatever the case may be, it's a pretty sweet deal to receive a good game for free. It really is too bad a lot of us already own it.

I came here to post a quick thank you, but am a bit surprised at the negativity. Mass Effect 2 for free was a welcome surprise to me. My PS3 copy was stolen within 24 hours of picking it up, and I haven't had the funds to replace it yet.

Thank you Bioware /EA !

Ah good old VGChartz an organisation that doesn't know anything about anything, making stuff up and people using it as fact.  Let me put it this way if VGChartz said "the sun will rise tomorrow" I would still look out my window to check for myself before I believe anything that site says.

Well considering that every "DA:2's sales are plumetting" article and thread have been using those figures it wouldn't matter if VGChartz said 1+1 = 3. The point is the data that is being used as "evidence" of DA:2 poor sales doesn't reflect that at all. This isn't about VGChartz being accurate, it's about the interpetation of the data being wrong.

The base argument is basically that someone looked at a chart that said object A was blue and then came here and said. Object A is red this chart says so, but then when you go to look at the chart it clearly says it's blue.

If you have any concrete sales figures we can actually look at I'll be more than happy to use those, but when people post "look at these figures" over in the DA:2 forums I'm going to use those figures. And until we get an official historical chart all we have to go with is is the "estimate" from VGChartz, although their statstics are accurate on games that have had official sales release because they go back and change any data that is wrong and never mention it again since [sarcasm] they're estimates are always spot on and they never make mistakes, also they can't reveal their sources...because of competition and stuff...and it's very complications you probably wouldn't understand it, [/sarcasm] don't forget that.

Edit:

Not for any new games, not any accurate numbers that is. Steam takes forever to release their sales data.

We're complaining about getting something for free now? I'm sorry, I never watch the news, did it suddenly become preferable to have less money instead of more? So it's a "cheap marketing gimmick," who cares? Bioware gets their money, the customers get a great game for the price of one DLC, everyone goes home happy. Mind you I'm still going to hold out for the Game of the Year/Ultimate edition, unless I can snag a Collectors edition on eBay cheap that has the Cerberus and Collector codes intact and unused.

Well, I got my complaints about DA2, but this is a great gift from BioWare to their costumers. Saves me from buying someone ME2 ( because she already owns DA2 ) and gives me the opportunity to give my code to another person in my circle of friends. Very nice and thank you! <cheer>

BioWare have some of the most disgusting, bitter and down right horrible "fans" that lurk the forum and post overly negative to downright disrespectful comments, why I don't know.

And I'm not talking about the geniune fans that were disappointed with DA 2 and gave a constructive reason as to why.

Evil Bioware is trying to get DA2 players (or their friends they give the ME2 to) hooked on ME2 - RPG players sometimes shy away from shooting games - if they get to convert some of the DA2 players to ME fans - they will get more potential customer for ME3!!

Bioware gets to sell more DA2, promote ME2 and grab potential customers for ME3!

This is an evil marketing plan!!

'Hardcore' RPG are a very finicky bunch. Most of the vocal RPG'ers like the complex if not arcanic style nature of the genre. Anything which even has a whiff of streamlining so that the most simplest "mouth-breather" FPS drones can pick up the game and not be scared off by its complexity is meet with swift resistance.

Sometimes it is warranted, most of the time is it not.

My mind is boggled at the negativity throughout this thread.

Rather than go into that, for my first post let me say "Thank you" to Bioware. This little promo has been a very pleasant surprise.

As someone who played through the first Mass Effect on 360 a million years ago but put off the sequel when that console melted, this was a gift out of nowhere. Perfect timing too, as I've been in a G4 Mac ghetto for years and just bought a Windows laptop the previous weekend.

Then I was pleasantly surprised to see that redeeming the code DID unlock all the Cerberus DLC. If you check Bioware's FAQ on the offer, they've fixed their previous statement about Cerberus.

Then I found that it looks and runs better than I ever expected it to on my feeble laptop. In spite of my i5 "arrondale" with (lol) integrated graphics, it's actually looking better than the demo on PS3 did. At this rate, I expect Mass Effect 2 to do my taxes and fix up my car sometime tomorrow!

Just wanted to highlight that for the people who are still  saying that the game comes without the Cerberus network.

Have to admit that does make it a little more tempting, though I'd still prefer a physical copy, call me crazy I just like having something tangible in exchange for my money.

I'd argue that It's never warranted, the way a whole load of people act here towards BioWare and towards people whom have different gaming backgrounds here is nothing but disgraceful, an simply cannot be excused.

Hell, I myself joined this forum because ME has become one of my favourite games, yet there are many times here where I get riled by the attitude of people whom think they can look down on people like myself whom actually enjoy FPS/TPS games.

I would really like any single one of these 'Hardcore' RPG fans to explain why the fact that I enjoy participating in a competitive environment where the only aspect of the game is to prove yourself more skilful than the opposition makes me stupid? Because, even though standard shooter games themselves do not have as much complexity as RPGs does not mean they do not require intelligence to play, in fact one could quite easily argue that it takes a lot more intelligence to outsmart a human being within a shooter than it does to outsmart an AI in an RPG.

Edit: Yeah, entirely off-topic. On the subject of the actual topic though, it sounds to me like a pretty good marketing ploy.

Oh I'm not complaining at all. In fact right now I'm considering switching to the new version to avoid using my DVD drive.

So this version is available for download until the end of April. But would you be able to download it now and install it much later?

I haven't used the offer yet myself. But here's what they say:

[*]Cerberus Network is included and will be entitled to the account used to redeem your Dragon Age II Online Pass. This includes Zaeed - The Price of Revenge, Cerberus Weapon and Armor, Normandy Crash Site, Cerberus Arc Projector, and Firewalker Pack. Visit the offer page to download the necessary files.

So basically your Black Emporium code goes in there. Then you should get a code to download ME2.

And that just blew any appeal I had out of the water, I have yet to play the first Dragon Age, so I've no interest in buying the second yet, so if I need to buy that and the DLC I'd just as soon pay the extra $5 and grab a copy of ME2 on eBay, still it's not a bad deal if you own or plan to own DA2.
