When i first played DA2 i got about an hour in and was very disappointed so many things had been "streamlined", dual wield was gone for warriors, the layout of skill and talents was all messed up, fighting was more button mashy and less tactical etc. im sure you have all heard all this over and over so ill shut up about it.

After that i decided since i spent 60 bucks on it and it still took place in one of the best universes in a long time i would finish the game to find out what happens then go do another playthrough of DAO. But now since i have finished the game last week im already doing another playthrough. I think what did it for me was how much companion influence is in the game. I mean like to do their quest they have to be with you and u can talk to them and they grow as people, can include in conversations when apporiate.

Basically what im saying is at first i hated the game but it grew on me and i actually love it now, but i still think DAO has better gameplay. I saw there are/were lots of haters after the game came out im just wondering other peoples opinions. did u hate it at first for the changes then love it? love it from the get go? hate it and returned it?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Cheers

We? No. Some? Yes, very much so. I for one cares nothing about the cahnges in gameplay as long as the story is continued. For all I care they could make DA3 a FPS, I would still play it, as it is the story which enrapture me.
Others want carbon copies of the earlier games in a series. They feel it is a betrayal against the "spirit of the series" to change anything in the gameplay. Something along the lines of: If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Obviously you shouldn't conclude from you to others.

I liked the game at first, even to the end of my first playthrough.

But second time around I realized that choices don't matter which still doesn't really ruin the story, but disappoints in an RPG.

I agree - the game isn't a total loss, it's just not an RPG.  Perhaps some of the DLC's will add more actual choice?

I don't mind DA2, just I'm dissapointed on some of the directions the game takes and the stupid cliffhanger it leaves us at.

Gameplay-wise, I like it.

Aye, after my 2nd play through I was thinking in my head "Why bother?" It took a while but eventually just got used to the choices that don't matter for anything. Like the only fates you can decide is one of your siblings and to a point if a companion leaves you and lastly if you kill Anders or not. Even which ending you pick is more about choosing an achievement over making a real choice to be honest.

i in no way meant to seem like everyone else had the same opinion as me i was curious to see everyone elses i can see the title of the thread makes it seem that way, so apologies.

the choices you make seem more to be for if your playing i certain type of character then affect the plot. i think there are far to many variations to the plot that would come from every choice affecting it.

I agree with AlexXIV, the lack of choice was unfortunate. Even when Hawke said no to a quest, he was still forced to progress with it. I'd have preferred a Morrowind style of progression and choice where our choices have impact with other factions and there wasn't one route to take for the main quest. I also wish we had more emphasis on the humanity from the mages and templars in Act III and more nuance with the two groups. That said, I liked the characters, and it's interesting to see how they respond to the different roads of friendship and rivalry. You get to see a different side of Merrill on rivalry, for instance.

Personally I am fine with how they changed warrior. They made the rogues Dual Wield which is fine. Warriors get to pave entire paths in front of them with a 2 hander. Plus the Warrior tank changes including a form of charge and more was great for the class. Rogue also gets the closing in attacks which is fine cause in the faster paced fights they needed it.

I think the main problem that I had to get over was if you give the players a carrot like they could have a choice and they find out it's not really there. That happens at some points to me. There are other parts where I wish I could change my Story as I'm playing it. But it's now allowed and that is fine really. It is their narrative and not mine. I do get to decide how my character acts at least which is also what basically Mass Effect is about.

I personaly dislike 2 things in Dragon age 2, and only 2.
1: No Crossbows.
2: Waves of enemies... Seriously! Never do that again, please.
