yea i just ducked on here because of the same problem you all faced .

im glad to see a patch is forth coming and i dont have to start my game over again ...

one of the other odd things that happened to me on my play through was ... i chose kaiden to survive and anderson to be on the council... now as we all know everyone told me kaiden had died and the council along with him ... except some people told me what kaiden was up to and the council was alive (and the other guy talked to me like i was on the council)

but when talking to anderson after that scene im able to ask him a bunch of questions, one concerning Kaiden or Ashley and what they are currently up to ... but due to this i was able to sak him about both characters, and he gave me responses as if the are both alive ... bummer.

hope this new patch works out and thanks alot.

Haha, same here. I'm new here, and haven't looked around as much as I probably should have yet, but have Bioware acknowledged the audio de-sync issue yet? Have they said anything at all about it?

Ok I have been playing for a while now and the OUT OF SYNC AUDIO by 3 seconds almost and ABRUPT VOICE CUT is seriously getting on my nerves especially because half the game is made of cutscenes. Its getting worse as the game progresses and really detracts from the whole experience...Jesse mate I know you are paying attention to the PS3 version can you please acknowledge this issue and tell us if we can expect a fix soon? There are many complaints on the forum about this issue already and so far we have heard nothing regarding it. Thanks

Battlepope, they won't acknowledge it unless they can recreate the issue. I'm certain they can as it is so widespread, but also think about this: they won't make a big deal out of it until and unless they have a good idea about what is causing it. To do otherwise is to harp on an issue that they are befuddled with diagnosing. Just because we all see it doesn't mean it's easy to figure out the culprit(s).

Ah, good. I didn't catch that in the other thread, so I'm gonna take a look now.

At least they're aware of it.

EDIT: Just browsed the "Early April" thread and the other pages of this thread; could not find a post by him saying anything about the audio desync issues...

Ok one thing I've tested. Maybe it helps, even the new patch is already sent. Thanks Bioware and all of their crew!

I Have a 40gb PS3 and I live in Spain.

NO DLC OR PATCH. Just the game itself.

I get no genesis comic (I know it's the cerberus pack) So just to check the options the game gave you automatically. I started in easy difficulty and did the same twice. Soldier, first male, after woman.

The choices ME2 understands is that you had an affaire with the member of the opposite gender (Kaiden for woman, Ash for men) and the other one is sacrificed. Then the council is always dead and Udina is always the member of the new council as the humans always take over the situation.

I'm really expecting the new patch. I don't know if this info will help but I was just trying everything to see if I could find something new.

Greetings for the short time it took to develop the new patch. Thanks again to all people involved, let's hope Sony doesn't screw your job and delay the new patch.

A Caveat before I dive in - I am talking about this fairly openly in the hopes that people will have a better appreciation for what we do when fixing issues.  I'm also expecting that you do a little reading about software defects on your own before forming a solid opinion.

So that all depends on the patch and how much we change.  I'll give you a theoretically easy patch like the one we're working on now...

If it's post launch with no active content development - we need to first find the issue - We have a number of methods of finding issues after ship, but the best one is talking to the fans and customer service.  Once an issue is identified, we need to track it down to a state where we can really go deep into the engine and look at whats happening.  In this case there was a little bit of miss information on the forums and it took our QA team over a day to solidly lock down exactly what was the issue. This is no one persons fault, we just didn't want to miss anything so when we would hit a dead end we would look around there and make sure there wasn't any bugs in the shadows.  Also we have a really long game AND we know what each choice effects so it can take upwards of 10-30+ hours to look for and reproduce a single bug.

Now onto fixing the issue...  As we use UnReal as our engine this could be a code change, or a script change or a content change.  Content (ex specific collisions or a box floating in the air) is notoriously difficult to patch but has very little chance of Knock On issues ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knock-on_effect ). Script issues, are a still rather difficult to fix, and have a very high chance of knock on as they often effect gameplay systems.  Finally code fixes are the easiest but also have a very high chance of causing issues throughout the game.  Reason being that when you make a code chance you're changing a system and systems are not used in the same way for every instance.  As an example, Lets say you change the way that we check to see if a gun hits something.  Some other system may be built on that, and may create a new bug when we fix the old one.   Then there are some compounding issues, like on Xbox there is a size limit on patches, PS3 has it's own set of issues, and some of our content is built in such a way that it's not easy to patch.

Sooooo All Said And Done - lets talk about the Genesis issue and the Council decision not sticking.  This was a logic issue that would manifest in certain places but not in others based on the way we are bringing over Mass Effect Data into Mass Effect 2 and beyond.  So when we checked the various logic gates we didn't realize we needed to check it in multiple places based on the way the logic gates were set up.  We then needed to figure out how to fix it.  The content fix would be the safest way but would potentially allow broken content for Mass Effect 3, the best way we decided would be to put some logic in to the system that handles decisions to ensure that we have a valid state.   That way we catch issues that users who may not have realized that there was a bug and fix it for them.   This involved some code and script.   So that logic design process took a couple of days to dig into with Alex, Dusty (two of our awesome designers) and Zousar (one of our awesome programmers).  Once it was designed it had to be coded and the QA team needs to start hammering it. This can take a few days depending on the fix.  Any time it's a logic issue we also need to poke around at other stuff to make sure it doesn't break.  This is where we're at right now.  Once that's all done, and no issues have caused us to go back to the drawing board, we need to have our compliance team go through and make sure the patch installs correctly, follows all of the Sony rules for content release and such.  During this period, myself and the operations team is filling out a ton of documentation and coordinating the other external groups and Sony for the patch's release. Finally I need to sign off on the resolution myself (as I'm the project lead on PS3).   Once we've done our internal checks we do a second pass and send it over to a second set of eyes at another studio to have them ensure it made the fixes as intended and didn't break anything else or Sony's rules.  At this point it's out of our hands. From there we have Sony slot it in to their release schedule and they then go ahead and test it for a third time.  If they approve it we then work out an appropriate time for release,  usually this is ASAP or at the next content push depending the severity of the fixes.

Timeline wise, I've seen patches sit at Sony for several weeks but I've also seen them turned around in 2 days.  It really all depends on the game, the bugs and the volume of work that Sony is under as they have limited testing capacity too.

Hope that helps shed some light on your question-  And now time for me to get to work! :)

-Jess

PS (and totally OT) Dresden - did you ever play Tribes in a clan called [S=A]?

This entire explanation reminds me of the point Legion made about rewriting the heretic geth in the actual game. The whole discussion that references the Pentium FDIV bug. Kinda makes me wonder if the Bioware team was also referencing their own experience with knock-on effects lol.

well , I finished ME2 twice as a sentinel , then bought ME1 to my PC and I just finished it yesterday.
I'm facing the problem you all face but somehow even though Jacob told me Kaiden died , when I asked the illusive man where's Kaiden now he told me he got promoted...strange....

glad to see BioWare is working on it!:)

and I know its not the place to ask it but can I import my sheperd from the PC version of ME1 to the PS3 version of ME2?

The patch we are working on will retroactively fix the bug. So feel free to play with the Early April patch.

Ok so after I heard what Jesse said I started a new playthrough but this playthrough is very weird!
I went to talk to Anderson (I chose him as a councilor) the meeting with the council went fine but then Udina came in and said he need to talk with the Alliance to get him a new assistent (he was acting like I chose him as a councilor) and after all that weird conversation Andrson told my sheperd that Udina never got the fact that he is a councilor.

and if that's not enough , when I was investigating Anderson I could ask him about both Kaiden's and Ashley's location...

that's really weird BioWare , I stopped playing immediately and I'm looking forward for the patch.:(

BioWare , can you give us a release date for the upcoming patch?

You can keep playing if you like; the patch is a retroactive fix, so everything will be sorted once we get the update. No need to start a new Shepard or anything like that.

I rather wait for the patch and do a normal playthrough without any glitches.(even though they won't even matter eventually)
thanks anyway!

I started a NG+ a few days ago and today went to the citadel, expecting a funny conversation where both Anderson and Udina thinks that they're the councilor (since that's what I've been reading about in this thread). Instead, I got a funny conversation where both talked like the other one was the councilor. It seems it's a bit random.

Ok, you locked the April update patch, so i can't post this there, but strictly speaking, it's not about Kaiden. It is a similar fault, however. My newest game, post April patch, gave me the council eting scenes: but then decided to tell me in the Udina meet and Greet afterwards that the COuncil was dead and Udina, not Anderson was running the council. Th same thing happened when I was talking to Bailey during Thanes recruitment mission.

Que?

Yeah they are aware that the council decsions and the virmire survivor are both not being recorded properly from the comic and the new patch will fix the issues.

Alright, so just to make sure....With all the choices I made, and the fact that it seems while playing I made the opposite choice (and the times where during conversations it seems like I made both), once I download the new patch (whenever that is) everything should be fixed up, right? There shouldn't be a need to have to restart again?

I just got done with the Horizon mission, and have seen quite a few instances of the choices I made being screwed up. I don't want to restart (but I will if I have to...) Meh, I was hoping to see Ash at the end of the Horizon mission, but saw Kaiden instead... :(

Yeah, Jesse mentioned that you would not need to make a new save and that your current save would work properly after the patch. (link = relevant post)

Bah, they didn't do that with me :(  Instead, when I talk to Anderson, I get this (mentioned earlier in this thread, but now in pic form):

Kinda wish you actually could save 'em both :-p

Does anyone know if its just New game plus or just having Arrival DLC?

There are some 360 users that have been getting problems since Arrival was downloaded. I ask because I dont have Arrival, maybe ill do a new game plus with my male Shepard and test this theory. Wanted to get a male shepard whose LI is Ashley so I have a Shepard thats not with Liara this time.
