*I've copied this thread and moved it over to the Registered Game Owner forum as I'm a registered game owner and posted this before this new forum was made, and this would allow more voting and discussion. This first set of results were posted 22 days ago, with updated results listed below.*

So I was curious at the sheer bipolar effect Dragon Age 2 has caused on this forum. Just how split was the community on the game? I made several polls and found some interesting results. Now granted I'm no professional statician, I'm a lab scientist, but I do understand the scientific method and realize my method isn't solid. HOWEVER, these numbers match up pretty well to each other and clearly matches the forum's enviroment from what I've seen. So let's take a look at some of these numbers.

My first poll was a simple Yay! or Nay! response on an overall opinion of Dragon Age 2. Out of a current number of 417 voters, 215 (52%) responded with Nay! while 202 (48%) responded with Yay! The community is perfectly split on their opinion of the game, 1/2 people either like it or hate it. Seems pretty consistent with the type of threads we've been seeing. poll link: social.bioware.com/956165/polls/16602/

Seeing such a split in opinions for DA2, I created a second Yay!/Nay! poll for Dragon Age: Origins. Only 172 responded on this one, however the smaller pool gives a pretty accurate picture. In terms of DAO, there were 148 (86%) Yays!, greatly outnumbering the 24 (14%) Nays! Makes sense as being a fan of the first game obviously means you're here on the DA2 forum for liking the series so far.
poll link: social.bioware.com/956165/polls/16646/

In seeing that 14% not liking DA:O I figured it was time to see opinions on both games in comparison to each other. Here I gave voters the option of choosing preferance to DAO, DA2, liking both equally, or disliking both. This is where it got rather interesting to me in some of the results. Out of 170 voters, 101 (59%) prefered DAO, 24 (14%) prefered DA2, 42 (25%) liked both games equally, and a whopping 3 (2%) disliked both games.
poll link: social.bioware.com/956165/polls/16696/

In conclusion these polls tell me several things:

1. Only half the community likes DA2, a severe drop from the first game.
2. Only a third of DAO fans actually like DA2.
3. Those that disliked DAO seem to have been won over by DA2.
4. 2% of us are trolls, lol.

Overall, it's pretty clear that Bioware has a lot of feedback to listen to on DA2. They've accomplished in winning over people that didn't like DAO, however they disappointed twice that number of fans of the first game. Not exactly the progress I'm sure they were hoping to make.
So fellow community members, discuss!

*UPDATE* 4-5-11

So I decided to pop in and saw I had quite the number of updates on my polls, a huge surprise to me as this thread hasn't seen the front page is weeks. Thanks for the votes guys, my pool is now significantly larger than it originally was! It's been almost a month since I put these polls up and the results of which you can see above. Since then my DA2: Yay! or Nay! poll has doubled in votes, while my DAO: Yay! or Nay! and DAO vs DA2 polls nearly tripled their numbers. And you know what? The statistics still hold up, there's practically no change with these new votes. Check it out:

*UPDATE* 7-7-11

Hey guys! Thought I'd drop in and check the polls as the newly announced DLC reminded me of them. It's been 3 months since the last update, and I'm happy to see the polls still alive and kicking! And yet, despite nearly a doubling in the polled numbers, the results still stand as I originally reported. Which rocks! I believe that this consistency is a forsure sign of an accurate picture of this forum in terms of opinions on the Dragon Age games. Check out the new, updated results and compare to my previously reported updates:

  • 417 votes

  • 12% Nay! (60)

7-7-11 Updated Results:

  • 59% DAO (101)

[*]4-5-11 Updated results:

  • 566 votes
  • 60% DAO (340)
  • 15% DA2 (84)
  • 24% Liked Both Games Equally (135)
  • 1% Liked Neither Game (4)
7-7-11 Updated Results:
  • 1172 votes
  • 64% DAO (759)
  • 13% DA2 (151)
  • 22% Liked Both Games Equally (255)
  • 1% Liked Neither Game (7)
So overall, looks like the pattern of my first reported results is still following with the larger pool of votes. If you haven't voted yet, please add your voice so we can get more results, but so far I doubt the currently viewed results will change much. Please discuss!

These polls have been running nonstop since I first put them up, so what you're seeing is a continuation of results over time.

Thanks for the update. FYI, there's a small typo where it should be 52%, and not 2% in the first report from when you first made the thread. Still an interesting read.

Very interesting! And it's a good thing you updated, as I somehow managed to miss all three of these polls! Thanks for putting this together and sharing.

It does seem to make perfect sense to me having been reading these forums for while now. It does match up to my perceptions.

Thanks for the heads up! For some reason using bulletpoints is a pain in the ass when editing, will fix!

It's certainly useful for Bioware to know what the forum goers think. But as a word of caution I would say this is a self-selecting survey. Of the real life people I know who played one or both games I'm the only one who comes here.

Absolutely, this is merely a taste of what's seen here on the forums. We forum posters are definitely the minority of game owners, but we are the vocal minority that interacts in such a community with the devs.

Hey Bioware!

Don't kid yourself in saying that most people love DA2 when your own forum is so divided.

You are both right, but it also shows that many of us care enough to come in and let our thoughts be known, be they bad or good. That fact alone carries some weight. So I applaud Sharkley for his good work and thanks for taking the time to do this. Good stuff!

voted, tho only problem with this is ppl will say it's not accurate since the numbers are so small

I'm guessing, however, the percentages would probably remain accurate

I'm shocked that only 2% of us are trolls. I call shenanigans on that. lol.

But in all seriousness, this is very interesting. There's a very clear and even schism here.

I guess the only other stat I'd be interested in, but it's probably impossible to get now, is how people felt about Dragon Age: Origins when it first came out. I mean, I think it's a no-brainer that most of the people here would love DA:O. It's been out for years. Very few people are so bitter as to hang around a forum of a game they hated YEARS ago. So I wonder what the feeling of the game was AT THE TIME.

Guess we'll never know. Still, great stats.

Reading comphrension isn't your strongest point, I assume?

Where did I say I hated DA:O?

It was pretty well loved when the game came out I don't recall to many people hating on it. MA2 on the other hand.....when that came out there were people screaming and crying

I thought it was great, and I never even went on the forums for it. Probably a lot of people like me.
