Would it just mean that the story isn't so facepalm inducing and all three Acts connect to the larger plot (The Mage-Templar conflict, which should've been made to be Freedom vs. Security and not Good vs. Evil, which is what we got.)?

I'm curious, what would DA2 have to be to be called an appropriate sequel to Origins?

I'd think less 180's on many of the existing designs(I'm looking at you, darkspawn) , less awkward scarves covering necks(and much less spiky armour), less ninja teleporfighting, less map recycling, less enemywavespawninginnonsensicalfashionanddraggingfightsthattake20minutestofinishjustbecausethebosshas20billionhitpoints.
or in more readable fashion
enemy waves spawning in nonsensical fashion and dragging fights that take 20 minutes to finish just because the boss has 20 billion hit points.
I think for DA 2 to be called an appropriate sequel to DAO it would have to not be DA 2.

Darkspawn yes.
Not sure what you mean by the scarves.
Haven't seen much spiky armor, though I may be forgetting a few armor sets as I'm not really playing DA2 a lot these days.
the animations for mages and rogues definitely should've been implemented better.
While I don't condone map recycling, I didn't care too much. At least the side quests were great.
and yes on the enemies.
But there's still DA2's biggest failing. The barely connected plot that should've had all three acts connect the larger story that was being told. Freedom vs. Security.

See what I mean? Too lazy to dig up a pic of the champion's warplate.
Hurrrlocks, champion's armour(again), most of the armour using the "old" look aren't a problem, but anything new is almost definitely of a spiky influence. The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

No kidding, I never knew the small, short blades I had on me, with pointy tips for whatever reason, were great for slashing too!The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

I'm not exactly bitter or whatever with the map recycling, though I did have a couple of moments where I just went "Really, Bioware? This place, again?" And about the side quests, I'm sure you don't mean the ones where you find a random body and return it, rotting bits and all, to some random family member. Though even then I didn't really find too many of them to be memorable. I have a little favourite in the one from DAO where you help a kid come out of the closet. *poker face*The Ethereal Writer Redux wrote...

The overarching story is incredibly relevant to today's life, just a shame it got shunted to the background in favour of the awesome.
edit : fixed a little accident.
