In DAO it was the rite of annulment. In DA2, the right of annulment. I want the rite to be right, so which is right? Write it right!

lol.. good question.

I think it makes sense to be 'right' actually, as in I have the right to annul the Circle.

I don't know...I've wondered that myself. Actually in Origins it's sometimes the "Right" of Annulment as well. When your warden show up at the mage tower for Broken Circle, you get a conversation choice to ask KC Greagoir: "Right of Annulment?"

And in DA2, when I got the codex entry, it says New Codex: RIGHT of Annulment (emphasis added). But in the body of the codex it says Rite.

I know it's just a word, but it MATTERS to me. It bugs me that "right" and "rite" are being used interchangeably, because I think it makes a difference which one it is.

A 'rite' is a religious ceremony, so yes, completely different word!

Then again, we live in an age where people thing site and sight. there, they're and their are interchangeable too. *sigh*

Oh hell. I wish you hadn't pointed this out. (I don't have subtitles on.) This sort of thing brings out my latent OCD tendencies.

Yeah, clearly even Bioware isn't sure!

I'll bring it up to be addressed the next time they update string tables. I couldn't tell you which one is intended, simply that it should be consistent.

I would think it's supposed to be "rite" - just think of Annulment as a very, very bloody religious ceremony - but who knows.

I assumed it was always "Rite" and any different spelling was a mistake ...YMMV

Edit:  If it was a goof B/W just earned points for saying it was a goof.  [I.E. I respect folks with the courage to say "my bad"]

I've always perceived it as Right, because it's an actual decision that the Chantry commits to when they cull the mages, and not some initiation rite (like the Rite of Tranquility).

It is Rite, or was right when it was rite, am I right?

;)

I think it is a Serah/Serrah thing. Typos don't have to be typo's in video games. They can call it "regional differences" between Ferelden and Kirkwall. :P

Psssst: It should be Rite, imho.  Was *completely* joking about regional differences.  :innocent:

Rite:  a formal or ceremonial  or procedure prescribed orcustomary in religious or other solemn use

Huh. It could go either way?

But it's Rite of Tranquility!

Except that Serah and Serrah both appear in Kirkwall* and not Ferelden, are made-up words, and rite and right are real words that mean entirely different things.

*Do they? I haven't noticed.

Wwwwwwwhhhatttt???

And yeah I think it should be "right" - they are given permission to perform the deed from wherever. But I'm probably entirely incorrect.

Regardless, mind = blown.

It could be "Right" because they claim the right to annull the Circle.

But it could also be "Rite" because it's probably highly ritualized.

My guess would be that "Right" is the intended. But, really, it could go either way.

I suspect that it should be Rite of Annulment as approval comes from the Chantry, a church. Right would give it secular connotations and if secular the decision would come from the local lords and not the Divine.

You could replace the word "deed" with "rite" in my sentence and it would get even more confusing.

When they make someone tranquil, it's a rite.
When a grey warden kidnaps you, that's a right.

This... is complicated. I'd say it's a right, unless it was originally intended as a big "all mages kneel down peacefully and get beheaded" ceremony.

There's nothing ritualistic about the Annulment though - they just go in there and kill all the mages. They're not like, sitting down and making them drink some kind of herbal tea :P

Well I was thinking of "rite" like a rite of cleansing/purification.
