I can see Ewan Mcgregor as Alistair for sure, the way he speaks and similar looks even.
For Duncan I can see Viggo, I think he would do well.
Sean Bean as Loghaine makes sense too (to me).
Michael Clarke Duncan as Sten also would work, I'm not sure he's a perfect fit but not a bad one in my opinion.
I think Ben Browder or Michael Shanks would be a great male warden and I think they could create characters that would represent the player's create-able origins and types, or just one male and female one possibly, (mage, warrior, rogue, etc). This way people could see similarities and enjoy them though realizing their characters were quite different nonetheless.

hmm they need a black guy at least for the first part they can kill him off later on like most movies....russel crowe as your PC would be beast as hell that is if he acted like he did in gladiator.
I agree. In the pics that show The Warden, he looks alot like Russel Crowe.
*sighs* Too old. Much too old. And waaaaay too many "too old" choices on this thread.

Someone mentioned John Noble (Denethor from LotR, Walter Bishop from Fringe) for Loghain; I think he'd do an amazing job with the role.
For some reason, Arl Howe always reminded me of Eric Roberts. But Tim Curry would be the first choice of course. And like the OP suggested, Antonia Banderas for Zevran. Oh, and Gerard Butler as Kolgrim.

Hmm. I have to say that some of the actors people are picking for Alistair are a little on the old side. With movies you'd have to much more consider the physical age and appearance as much as the voice and personality.
For me, Alistair is best represented by a young British actor like Simon Woods or Hugh Dancy.
For Morrigan, Kate Beckinsale might work (also British) but I also like Emily Blunt or even Ellen Page (though she's a bit young... mind you, it's not as if movies never take liberty with character ages).
For Leliana, Milla Jovovich is nice. Bryce Dallas Howard or perhaps Evan Rachel Wood could also work.
For Zevran... Antonio Banderas? Seriously? I've seen people suggest him, but this is clearly based on voice. Physically the man is just too old and too... big (meybe 10 years ago he would suit, but not now). I would think Gael Garcia Bernal, myself, or even Alan Cumming (he certainly can do flamboyant).
For Loghain, I would go with Gary Oldman or even Anthony Hopkins... someone with intensity.
Meh. I know we'll never get to actually have input in such a beast (were it to ever happen), but still it's nice to imagine.
Have to say, and there is no buttering up here at all, that those are all fine choices, although I don't know Gael Garcia Bernal. But Ellen Page, Milla Jovovich and Gary Oldman are inspired choices! :-)

Anyhoo: My 2 sovereigns:
DUNCAN: Johnny Depp. At 47, he's the right age to play a mentor role, he can act his ass off and at certain angles during the battle of Ostagar, Duncan is (IMO) a dead ringer for Johnny.
MORRIGAN: Claudia Black, no question. Failing that, I could see Lucy Lawless in the role.
ALISTAIR: This might sound mad but I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Simon Pegg! He could easily play it for laughs but if we're going down the "funny AND handsome" path, then I vote for Ryan Reynolds. As much as his career's been a bit hit-and-miss, I think he shines in supporting roles.
LELIANNA: Audrey Tatau, if only for the frenchness.
STEN: Michael Clarke-Duncan, Danny Trejo or even Mickey Rouke in prosethic make-up.
OGHREN: Brian Blessed.
LOGHAIN: Tim Roth. He can play snarling evil old fruitcakes well and I reckon if you pop a black wig on him, he'd be perfect for the role.
WYNNE: Fionnula Flanagahn would be an inspired choice. She even looks a bit like Wynne.
ZEVRAN: Justin Timberlake. The boy can act and judging by his SNL sketches, this would be a role filled with snappy innuendo.
FLEMETH: Kate Mulgrew, who else?!
ARL HOWE: Ian Holm could pull it off quite well.
MALE HUMAN WARDEN: Jason Stadham or Michael Fassbender!
FEMALE HUMAN WARDEN: Renee O' Connor or Ellen Page.

Whoever said Ewan McGregor as Alistair, you are made of epic win! Fabulous choice- especially if you've seen him in "I Love You Phillip Morris"- he played sweet/naive/impish/whimiscal so well I was tempted to leap out of my seat and pinch his cheeks!

It requires effort and support from the people calling the shots. For that matter, there was once a time that fantasy movies were not seen as potential blockbusters and book movies generally weren't good either. Lord of the Rings changed that notion as well.
It could be done, but all the pieces have to be in place.

You know, to everyone who keeps saying this is a horrible idea because of past video games made into movies, I would like to point out that the same used to be said about comic books. Now we've had the Spider-Man movies, Iron Man movies, etc. Compare them to the Spider-Man, Captain America, and Punisher movies of the 80's and you'll see times can change.

Video games and comic books are completely different storytelling mediums. Comic books still follow a fairly standard narrative structure (albeit over many issues), while video games simply do not. This is the main reason why most video game movies suck -- lack of an easily transferable narrative. For what it's worth, of all the games made in the last decade I think DA:O and ME are the ones with plots which are the most "adaptable" to a screenplay. However, it would still be a tremendous challenge to make a movie of either game. As good as the writing of DA may be, there still hours and hours of *gameplay* which don't really translate to the screen. Additionally, unlike a game, a script cannot contain choices, deviations, or side-quests. It might be an interesting way for the writers to set something down as canon, but from what I've seen around here a lot of people would start throwing hissy fits whatever they chose.
All that said, it would still be totally awesome if an actual proper adaptation were to be created by the writing staff and directed by someone competent. I kind of doubt it would ever be considered unless DA becomes a hugely successful franchise (here's hoping!). Still, speculation is fun. For some reason whenever I think of Alistair live, I think of a slightly bigger version of Cary Elwes from the Princess Bride years.
