Hmm. I have to say that some of the actors people are picking for Alistair are a little on the old side. With movies you'd have to much more consider the physical age and appearance as much as the voice and personality.

For me, Alistair is best represented by a young British actor like Simon Woods or Hugh Dancy.

For Morrigan, Kate Beckinsale might work (also British) but I also like Emily Blunt or even Ellen Page (though she's a bit young... mind you, it's not as if movies never take liberty with character ages).

For Leliana, Milla Jovovich is nice. Bryce Dallas Howard or perhaps Evan Rachel Wood could also work.

For Zevran... Antonio Banderas? Seriously? I've seen people suggest him, but this is clearly based on voice. Physically the man is just too old and too... big (meybe 10 years ago he would suit, but not now). I would think Gael Garcia Bernal, myself, or even Alan Cumming (he certainly can do flamboyant).

For Loghain, I would go with Gary Oldman or even Anthony Hopkins... someone with intensity.

Meh. I know we'll never get to actually have input in such a beast (were it to ever happen), but still it's nice to imagine. Image IPB

CGI. Why pay a ridiculous amount of money to actors when they can just use what they have and make it a movie and then use that money to rehire the voice actors.

Don't know what the movie would be about though, I played the game, I know how it ends. :P

Greh..Anthony Hopkins?   I like him and all but he is much too.....Anthony Hopkinsy to pull off  Loghain.  He has a lot f vocal inflections that I  think would keep puling me away from the Loghain character.

I think someone like Danial Day-Lewis has the right intensity to pull off the role well.

Oh, yes. Simon Woods has a facial structure that would fit Alistair perfectly.

Another good choice, imo. Gary Oldman can play anything and he would certainly give justice to the character. I'm not sure if he has the voice for it, but maybe I'm just used to Simon Templeman's loudness.

I would like to see Guy Pearce as the Warden, Jude Law as Alistair (he's perfect because his wity personality is akin to Alistair's), Liam Neeson as Duncan (he always dies in his movies), Sienna Miller as Leliana, Kate Beckinsdale as Morrigan, Sean Bean as Loghain (he be the perfect actor for a hero who commits regicide), Christian Bale as the King, Djimon Hounsou as Sten, Russell Crowe as the Arl of Redcliff, Cate Blanchett as Wynne, and the dog from Marley and Me as Dog.

Warden - Aidan Turner
Alistair - Bradley James
Duncan - John Lynch
Morrigan - Katie McGrath
Leliana - Audrey Tatou
Zevran - Santiago Cabrera
Sten - Tyler Mane
Wynne - Lindsay Duncan
Anora - Michelle Ryan
Loghain - Ciaran Hinds
Howe - David Schofield
Flemeth - Kate Mulgrew
Isabella - Emilia Fox
Eamon - John Hurt
Isolde - Eva Green
Bann Teagan - James Purefoy
Irving - Richard Wilson
Greagoir - Mark Lewis Jones
Cullen - Paul Bettany
Jowan - Colin Morgan
Erlina - Laura Donnelly
Lady of the Forest - Kate Beckinsale
Kolgrim - Gerard Butler

Ok, yes I know I just basically ripped out most of the cast of 'Merlin' but I think some of them could do great in the roles I've put them in, I did originally put Anthony Head down as Loghain but then was flicking through some other show cast lists and realised that Ciaran Hinds would be far better I think. David Schofield looks a lot like Howe I think and he can easily do the snivelling snakey kind of role easily.

Male Warden: Jason Statham

Hes done so good in alot of these new action films who could say no to JS as the male Warden.

i agree but hes to actiony. the whole transporter series is joke, especially the 3rd one
and crank: high voltage ugh
id rather watch Ninja Assassin

I agree that those two didnt do JS credit but there are other JS movies that have really rocked. He is an action star not a comic relief which they tried to turn him into for Crank.

I still say Sam Worthington for Alistair, if he can tone down the Australian-ess :) (but he's born in England I read somewhere, so he might be able to do that!)

And Nathan Fillion would be good too, I know he's somewhat older, but he has a youthful appearance (bit cheeky too, like Alistair :)) and they have good make up nowadays anyway :P

I would like Milla Jovovich as Leliana too (multipass!) but maybe just so I can convince my boyfriend to come watch said movie with me :)

Gerard Butler as male warden...yummie!

And wow David, Gael Garcia Bernal is hot!

But as long as Orlando Bloom does not play any elf role I'm happy!

If there's a DA:O movie before anyone makes a live action Dragonlance movie, I'll slit my wrists, I swear.

But, I digress... lots of good ideas in here, just wanted to throw out that I think it works best with the Human Noble storyline, as a sword-and-shield warrior, played by someone brooding and young.

I think Bradley James would make a perfect Alistair. His video blogs during the making of Merlin prove him to be a charming young man with a self-deprecating sense of humour, he'd hardly have to act! Plus he is an adorable hunk!

Alan Rickman will be 64 next month. I had dismissed him as maybe too old for Loghain, but since you mention Sir Anthony, I figure Alan is still well within his prime for the role. Plus he does intensity with just a little less hamminess :)

Mind you, I agree with others who prefer the idea of a CGI film, with the original voice-actors. They did you guys proud and it wouldnt be the same without them.

PS: I had to look up Gael Garcia Bernal and his look is spot-on for Zevron, but I more enjoyed seeing you put yourself forward for the role Image IPB (and if that wasnt a misplaced comma. Go David!!).

Going a bit off-topic, yup I can vouch for how funny his video blogs are because I think I might be in one of them :wizard:

I'm part of the 501st Legion UK Garrison and last year in May we were at the London Expo and Bradley, Colin Morgan, Katie McGrath and Angel Coulby were backstage waiting to go on for their talk about the show and I was at the time backstage wearing my Joker Goon costume and Bradley waved me to come over.

First I thought he was joking but he persisted in waving to me so I walked over, he then goes to talk with the others as if he hasn't done anything but all the time has the camera  turned on me, whilst he is watching via the viewscreen and Katie says "He's behind you" as I walk right up behind him and he just turned around and grinned.

Then had a little bit of banter, then I walked back off whilst they went on to the stage. I've yet to find any trace of that presumed blog though. Would be fun to see if he did upload it anywhere

On-Topic yeah as earlier posted he would be great as Alistair

That single line there has made you the second best member of these forums in my eyes, second only to the person who originally suggested Kate Beckinsale.
I <3 Kate Beckinsale. Very much.

I like the idea of Gary Oldman playing Loghain I think he's a fantastic actor. Although Anthony hopkins has more of an Arl Eamon look about him I reckon.
Here's hoping for a DA movie sometime soon eh? :wizard:

I think Beckinsale would have been wonderful. She's had a bit too much surgery now though.

Ellen Page is a really interesting choice though.

I'm still sticking with Ludivine Sagnier for Leliana. She's French, cute as hell, can sing and with red hair is the spitting image.

In this in particular, I can't help but think of Leli at the  Orlesian court :P

And I wish Charlie Clements was a better actor, because he's really adorable and a great match for Alistair

i'd prefer the movie to be animated. not disney animation, but something like dreamworks quality with a more mature theme. R rated cartoon not named south park????? it would have to be written well. another beowulf and i'd go into attack mode. :-)

Interesting choices David.

Regarding the age, we should all know that people in their 30s are casted to appear high schoolers who are 16, so it is no surprise that many are thinking about more mature actors.

And you know, you can retain a lot of control over movie spinoffs if you play your cards well. Hollywood would have you think that they have all the power, but they don't unless you sell it: we have learnt from many other authors that you never license the rights without conditions, otherwise you might see your franchise suffer. Also the best option in something like this would be to get an appropriate director/producer combo and get them very involved and passionate about it (and yes, I have to say Peter Jackson sounds like the geeky kind to buy into it). That way it becomes a personal pet project and 'what sells" is put in the back seat.

You also have "trilogy potential" because of the accessibility of the story to non-gamers, so with the right backing this could become a truly huge franchise.
Now your real problem is: who "owns" this? If it's EA and we base on previous corporate tendencies, then yeah, we can expect one mediocre mass market movie that you would likely have little say over.

There's a lot of actors that are just breaking through so it's possible there is some untapped talent out there for the roles that are harder to fit like Alistair and Morrigan.

If there was ever to be a movie it would just be smarter to make it CGI with a bigger budget then have the voice actors come back to do their parts again. I'm sure they had some fun with those snarky comments lol.
