because of the 10-year promise...
instead of expecting a game where I can aged, populate and becoming senile, I got a game that actually only has '1' year of gameplay...
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the game but 7-10 years is a long long time and I felt the events in DA2 shouldn't even happened that long...
Act 1 - Finding the money to go into the Deep Roads do not take a year (esp if the deep roads appears to be a shorter version than DAO)... it felt short and more like a sidequest within multiple sidequests...
3 years till Act 2 - Missing 3 years of your life to buy a house in hightown is kind of lame... and within these 3 years, even though you flirted with your companions at year 1, you did not pursue a real relationship with them until tthe 4th year is a really a sketch by normal standards...
Act 2 - Solving the Arishok's problem should be swift as they are becoming restless and may cause political unrest.. it should not take more than 3 months...
3 years till Act 3 - Again, you missed out 3 years of your life... you lived with your partner and both of you have no plans to make any 'mini-mes', which is weird in medival times (if heterosexual)... I guess your only concern is to build up your status as the champion (basically doing nothing) while the mages and templars continued to fight till death...
Act 3 - the big showdown! I guess the only reason for the 10 year promise is this act... to let people know that conflicts escalated overtime and we need to finally make our first real choice (compared to the many in DAO).
I think DA2 will be more enjoyable if it happened with a year... much like DAO... so that I know that there is only so much you can do within a year and it wouldn't make sense if all happened within a year...
The main issue that DA2 suffered is

Well, that's one issue, but it's one of many. I agree with you that it caused big problems with pacing and the relationships, though. And some of the bits that we skipped seemed like they'd be more interesting than what we lived.

I liked how they did it. It flowed well and the story a was riveting, edge of your seat kind of tale. To do it the other way would not have been conducive to the pacing needed to pull off those moments, in my humblest of opinions.

The main problem is that it was released...
