Anyway, this is very off topic at this point.  I still don't like the femHawke walk because it's way too exaggerated (it makes me laugh).  But I'm not going to expect a video game to have varying body types either -- that would be too much detail to hope for.

Saints Row 2 says hi.

DA2 didn't even bring us variety in dungeons.  No way do I expect variance in body type!

Most RPGs don't, becase the time and money can be better spent.

There's a difference between tileset variety and copy-pasting dungeons wholesale.

At least it's not as bad as in World of Warcraft, few things are more ridiculous than watching a bunch of mega-muscled Fabios in skirts casting spells.

Play Horde and this problem goes away. B)

Well, actually, it doesn't, thanks to those ****ing blood elves, but it is at least reduced.

They lean more toward the "Fabio" side than the "mege muscled" side.

Bruce Lee was not a big buff man, but he kicked booty and took no names. I am ok with LadyHawke and Fenris even being on the " lanky" side, I was not a fan of the sway back posture of ANY of the npsc/pcs. truly thats way exaggerated, and totally an unnatural curvature of the spine.
I didnt midn the LadyHawke build or even male, Its known fact that males have more muscle mass per inch so to speak than females. so that ratio was ok too. I think the Greatswords have becoe the fa in video games, where it is so large it can plow furrows in the ground while walking, or perhaps strike a creature from opposite side of room.
Voice acting was ok.. I had a hard time adjusting to Vaughns voice ,,, Lol, but yes the LadyHawke mother scene was way more telling vocally than males, but I mean its part of socialization.... men are given guns and cars to play with , while girls may like them too, they are predominately given dolls. I think showing emotion is a side effect of social mores. Men have trouble,,,, so i kinda forgave MHawke for mum's death scene...

After reading and enjoying all of your responses,  the one thing that I'm surprised at is that my suggestion that the female warrior actually look like a warrior was somehow interpreted as she should look like She-Hulk.   As I said, I'm not asking for Ms Olympia.  I just feel that a well toned physique would be in keeping with the character class of warrior.  I didn't say she was a pixie, but she doesn't look like she's fit either.

Women with well toned bodies aren't built like linebackers.  Their arms, legs and upper thighs are well defined and yet they still maintain all of their feminine curves and even keep soft faces in comparison to body builders.  But  the point is that they look fit, capable, STRONG.

I haven't heard anything too compelling from anyone on Fem Hawke's voice and animations though.  When things are getting tense with the Arishok, Fem Hawke's tone doesn't sound serious enough.   In fact she could use the same tone that she's uses to threaten the Qunari to invite them to her home in Hightown for noon tea and biscuits.

"Excuse me Arishok, this is such a thrilling conversation but do you perhaps have any Grey Poupon?"

My Fem-Hawke's head is often facing the ground like a woman who is scared to met a person's gaze.  She nervously twirls the toe of her boot in the dirt like a little girl, unconfident, unsure of herself.    Seriously, THIS is what Bioware wanted to project with the female character?

Anyway, at least this didn't turn into the barbarously uncivilized debate that I left a couple of days ago on a comic book forum over Adrianne Palicki's costume for the new Wonder Woman series.  She's tall, she has the right physique, so all they have to do is get her costume right and it will all work out.  Hopefully without any more comic book fans bursting into flames.   They shouldn't be allowed to discuss anything without taking a few xanax first. :P

I'm not sure what the problem is with her voice, the dominant lines sound quite fine to me.
Someone with a "posh" type of voice isn't going to suddenly sound gruff.

*sigh* first people complain about the lack of walk modeling in ME2, now they're complaining about the presence of walk modeling In DA2?
BioWare just can't win

She sounds authoritative to me.
I especially love the way she says "bastard", like "you bah-stards kidnapped my brother!!".
But to each their own I guess. Hell, some people like ManShep's voice.. poor deluded fools.

Aveline seems a bit more bulky than femHawke, at least that's how I've seen it. Or maybe I'm imagining it, if they've got the same body models. But she certainly seems more of a warrior.

This isn't a problem for video games only. I mean, how many warrior women are shaped to be bad-ass warriors in movies and tv-series? Most are so slim I cannot believe they're not knocked dead right away. I mean, there are exceptions where they use actresses who actually look a bit muscular, but those really are exceptions.

As for the swords ... yeah, a bit overkill with so large swords. But that was a problem in DA:O as well.

Hawke's not a military type of figure though unlike Shepard. Yes, Hawke fought in Ostagar but it seems to me that she's generally just a country girl who's self-taught in swordplay in order to protect her family and provide for them. She has enough strenght in her voice when the situation requires it. I actually had more issues with her diplomatic/kind lines which were sometimes delivered with a sickeningly thick sugarcoating.

I did dislike the exaggeratedly feminine animations. It looked like she very conscious of her own movement like a fashion model on a runway. The DAO animations were a bit clumsy but that was no reason to take it to another extreme. There is something called a compromise...no matter what Anders claims[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angry.png[/smilie]

Why can't it be a part of
character creation to select the body language regardless of gender? It
doesn't seem like such a big deal to make that available.

An excellent idea and I hope Bioware takes notice of this. Developers design several different animations anyway so why not let us choose them for our characters. Those who'd like to play no-nonsense warriors could choose the male animation and those who like to draw circles to the sand with their toes can go with the female.

Maybe you need to play a female mage, where her arms are exposed a lot?  She's very fit and has muscle tone.

What "compelling" argument are you hoping to hear, considering that it's all down to taste and perception?  I thought she sounded fine.  Female Shepard sounds fine.  Male Hawke sounds fine.  Male Shepard.... er, no comment.

My Fem-Hawke's head is often facing the ground like a woman who is scared to met a person's gaze.  She nervously twirls the toe of her boot in the dirt like a little girl, unconfident, unsure of herself.    Seriously, THIS is what Bioware wanted to project with the female character?

You're seeing things that aren't there.  Her movements aren't shy or unconfident, they're just the sort of pacing type things people do when they're standing around.  At least she's not playing with her hair.  I don't know what you really expect a warrior woman should be doing when she's standing around- picking her nose?  Flexing her muscles?  Slamming a fist into her palm?

Indeed the bare arm on the mage champion armour is quite bulky and muscled, for both female and male.

Aveline's body is different from femHawke's.When femHawke stands still, she sways her hips and puts her weight on her left foot. Aveline stands much more like the men, with both feet firmly planted. If you look carefully, you'll see that Isabela, femHawke and Bethany all use the same standing/running/idle animations.

Really? Come on now, show me even one RPG that lets you play a human/elf/other "pretty" race where the females actually look like they could be believable warriors? For that matter you do realize that Aveline uses the same body model as femHawke or that the human body models have changed very little from DA:O?

I preffer the wierd "sort of fat but I have a six pack" male bodies of DAO to TRIANGLE CHEST MAN!

Me too.  I find them weird and not attractive, but then pixel nekkid is always kind of weird.

The only thing I didn't like about femHawke's movement was the wide-open legs when she sits.
