It would be nice to have a sub forum for RPers or budding writers to use. Chances are if anyone attempted an RP in the general forum they'd get beaten down by RP haters.

Rather few commercially oriented sites offer anything other than "Off Topic" for that, and for the time being, you can choose between two of them here, new and old . .
Personally, I skipped right past live Role Playing, from tabletop miniature war gaming to computer war games, to CRPGs, and stayed with that when I found it in the form of early SSI fantasy games, including Wizard's Crown.
There was never any time when there was a person I knew who was anywhere close to my own age group and general acquaintance, who had any interest in live RP. My kids skipped past it as young athletes, too active in sports to want to invest time into it, so although I had acquired many of the TSR references from a trade of books, there was no occasion to get them out, until the Gold Box games began to appear.

Off Topic is a bit of a let down. Even a "Written Creative Area" would be better, where stories could be told, ale drunk and the serving wenches leered at.

You can easily create a Group for just such a purpose - then you just have to recruit people into the group and use the discussion topics there.
