I just downloaded this game (ME2) from the EA Download Manager as it was free since I have a Dragon Age 2 purchase.  (New promo that came out today..er yesterday now as it's almost 1 am...)

I have Win 7 Home 64 bit and my specs are recommended or above.

I have installed the Adobe Air although it looks like I only can download a 32 bit version, unsure if that's the issue?

I can open the first part of the game where it has the Play, Configure, Support, etc... buttons.

When I click on Play I get the awc.dll error.

When I go to my EAcore_App.ini file in the binaries folder all it has in it is -

My [EACore]
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000
UseStandAloneServer=true
SharedServerId=MassEffect2

I assume I am missing a lot because some fixes say to make sure you add the (x86) so it finds the correct file path.  Well obviously I don't have any path here.  Can someone post what theirs looks like so I can copy and paste it to mine and make the corrections appropriate to my systems path?  The only one I found online was in Spanish and don't think the translation was correct.

Naturally when I try to run the EACoreServer.exe it gives an error and won't open.

Thanks!

Am in exactly the same position came over with the lure of being a thank you to us Dragon Age players......have done several searches across the web to try to find a solution for the "awc.dll" issue, none of which seem to have helped me whatsoever and it seems to be a major issue.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled ME2 twice now tried hunting down other various solutions. I'm not a tech head so don't want to go changing things unnecessarily

Although my EAcore_App.ini file in the binaries folder has the following in it which is more than Tom above -

[EACore]
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000
CommandPortal_EnableLegacy=true
SharedServerId=EADM
LogId=EADM
core.agents.0.id=AGENT_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.0.path="PatchProgress.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /guid={clientGUID}
core.agents.0.supportedtasks=TASK_PATCH_DL_PROGRESS
core.agents.0.handlertype=QT
core.agents.1.id=AGENT_LOGIN
core.agents.1.path="Login.exe" /locale={locale} /patchLocale={patchLocale} /gameName="{data5}" /guid={clientGUID}
core.agents.1.supportedtasks=TASK_LOGIN_USER
core.agents.1.handlertype=QT
core.agents.2.id=AGENT_MESSAGE
core.agents.2.path="MessageDlg.exe" /locale={locale}
core.agents.2.supportedtasks=TASK_DISPLAY_MESSAGE
core.agents.2.handlertype=QT
core.agents.3.id=AGENT_VAULT
core.agents.3.path="EADM.exe" -StartDownload:{data1} -LaunchUI:{data2}
core.agents.3.supportedtasks=TASK_LAUNCH_VAULT, TASK_SET_FILTER, TASK_ADD_DOWNLOAD_JOB
core.agents.3.handlertype=QT

Any help would be muchly appreciated

Thanks Speedy for the reply. I will try adding the extra info later when I have time to mess with it.

I forgot to mention I am patched to the latest patch stickied at the top of this forum.

Not sure this'll work for any one else here but I've got mine running at least the character creation and first 20 minutes (tutorial type sequence) after searching round the web and trying a few "not too techy" things out.

This is how firstly I downloaded "Adobe Air" ...free version SDK I think was in the title direct from Abobe web site. Most of my trawling around the web mentioned using it! On it's own it wasn't enough to get the game to run, so I then tried downloading an older version of the EA Downloader (Think I got it from FilePlanet) and installed it over the latest version, it did warn me that I would be doing so but I continued. Then I downloaded the newer version of the EA Downloader (direct from EA website) again and ran it to overwrite everything....this seems to have worked in my case (at least through the intro / tutorial / start of the game) and may work for some of you Good Luck.

May be worth adding here that once installed again (EA download) re-installed ME2 but in a matter of minutes so it wasn't a complete download from the servers again.

OK I sorted it.

1) Download the game via download manager
2) Go to /Program files (x86)/Electronic Arts
3) Unzip the file (mass_effect_2_na_2_dip.zip) which has been downloaded - (I just did it in the folder it was downloaded to and didnt create a folder)
4) Goto _Installer/DISK1
5) Run EAsetup.exe and install the game
6) Once installed go to /Programs (x86)/EA Games/Mass Effect 2/Binaries
7) Copy the contents of the folder (which includes awc.dll) and paste into /Program files (x86)/Electronic Arts/Binaries
8) Run MassEffect2.exe

Remember I unzipped the originally downloaded zip file into the EA Games directory without adding a Mass Effect 2 directory...you may want to do that.

Hope this helps someone, runs fine here.

Mr Wonder I downloaded the game thru the EA Download Manager and I don't see any (mass_effect_2_na_2_dip.zip) file? It seems to unzip it and do everything from the EA Download Manager. (Which is probrably the issue).

Did you download it a different way?

Why is it EAsetup asking me for me to insert a disk/CD for a promo code download?

I am redownloading it thru the EA download manager.  I'll see if I can manually install it from the zip file like you say if it doesn't just do it by itself like it did the last time.

In this case you just want to skip the unzipping process, go directly to the _INSTALLER directory, and follow the instructions from there.

Thanks for the help, Mr. Wonderstuff!

"5) Run EAsetup.exe and install the game"

When I got to the 5th step by just going into the folder as you suggest, the only option it gave when I ran it was to uninstall since it was already installed.

Again I am redownloading the game and seeing what exactly it does once its downloaded...

I didn't have the zip file either - I just went into the Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\Mass Effect 2\\ folder and copied the binaries folder directly into the Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\  (in that folder I now have the following 3 folders (Binaries, EADM & Mass Effect 2) - I haven't had a chance to play the game yet, but it does launch which is more than it did before.  :lol:

Thanks Mr Wonder

I did this.   Same error...

Mine is in the Program Files (x86) since it's a 64bit Windows 7.  Do you guys that say it works have 64 bit or 32 bit windows?

Also I searched all the folders for the awc.dll file and it doesn't exist anywhere.  -_-

Well got it to install from the Disk1/EAsetup.exe once. Still doesn't create the friggen awc.dll anywhere. Now if you try and run the installer again it just gives you the option to uninstall it.

Can someone that has the game work for them on a windows 7 64 bit system just upload their binaries folder and make it a sticky in this forum? Maybe that will fix it. Unless all I need is to download the awc.dll file somewhere?

Ok I think I got it to work. WOW..... -_-

After it installed I did find the "EA Games" folder above the "Electronic Arts" folder. Copied the binaries from "EA Games" folder into both the "Electronic Arts" folder and the "Mass Effect 2" folder.

Thanks for all the help people. Now time to go to work and maybe, just maybe start to play this game after two days of fiddling at night after the kids go to bed...

Hi!
I installed ME 2 twice, first without Adobe Air and then with it and I still have the acw.ddl error.
This is what I have in the EACore_app:

***
[EACore]
ServerIdleAutoShutdown_ms=15000
UseStandAloneServer=true
SharedServerId=MassEffect2
***

I have Windows 7, 64 bit

Do we copy all contents of the binary folder or the folder in that folder?

Copy the whole Binaries folder.  Just click on the folder and copy.
