Yeah, after playing in normal, hard and nightmare difficulties. I can say, nightmare difficulty is not really fun, more like annoying and booring. I mean it's just about spam stuff longer to get something done, that's all what it is. Also more running around to avoid enemies.  Enemies aren't any smarter in higher difficulties. it's all about higher health, FF and resistances.

I think I liked Hard difficulty most.

Assassins can be controlled via threat, simply taunt after they stealth near them. It is not a random target. It has a set tactic that by design will go after the highest threat, then if that isn't possible, it will go after the nearest target.

Replace kiting with crowd control, saving with STAGGER, reloading with CCC and you have yourself 1 dead rogue.

Assassins cannot be controlled via threat if they threat wipe after every stealth because there are many many fights with more than one assassin and their stealth cooldown isn't all that long.  That might work the first time against one assassin but as soon as one stealths while taunt is on cooldown it's obviously not an option.  They also absoultely do not always go after the nearest target.  I've had them stealth past my entire party to get to someone on the other side even if they had no threat up to that point.

If you think you can make it through Act 1 nightmare without having a single party memeber fall unconcious ever with just crowd control and, most laughably, stagger without having to resort to any kiting or frequently reloading simply because many fights are just dice rolls on if one of your party members will be one-shotted straight off the bat then I can say with absolute confidance that you've never actually done it.  Even if you have all the CC in the world none of them are 100% guranteed against assassin so it's inevitable that, eventually, you'll burn your CC cooldowns before the rogue is dead and all it needs to do then is stealth to one-shot any mage or rogue in the party.

I don't know about that, I've found that they fairly reliably have a certain "range" around where they stealthed where they prefer to backstab someone within that range, unless one of my ranged characters really ticked them off with lots of damage. But I usually avoid even trying to attack them until the first time they stealth and backstab someone. Then I focus on killing them before they stealth again. Usually works.

Dog and Aveline can usually absorb a couple of backstabs well enough to take an assassin down easily. The multiple assassin fights can be more tricky, yeah.

Put some con on your party members and they won't be one shot. All my party members can survive at least one stab, that's for sure.

Well the stealth does have a duration so it's not hard to stay out of backstab range until it runs out.  That's just kiting though.  If they're still stealthed there's really no way of knowing for sure who they'll hit.  I've had them walk right past who they were attacking and being attacked by before they stealth to backstab someone else many many times.

The dog is a remarkably good tool though.  Works about as well as decoy, maybe better, and draws a lot of rogues out of stealth so I use it whenever I can to great effect.

And while my party has trouble with massive damage spikes I imagine with all the damage, attack, physical force, and elemental force you're giving up by going con it makes drawn out battles of attrition harder.  So you're really just trading one problem for another.  Admitadly the problem you're trading for is easy to solve with money for extra potions but kiting is free and effective even if it is tedious.

On a side note needing con on every character type in a game that supposidly is balanced around threat and tanking mechanics is bad game design as well.  What's the point of having a tank if everyone has to tank the hardest hits?
