I wonder how they would implement a Sareebas into your companion group? I got the impression from ketojan that he was content with his fate, like most qunari, he knew his place.

Ketojan: You are Basvaraad. Worthy of following. I will now immolate myself.

Hawke: Immolating yourself is stupid. Since I'm Basvaraad, LISTEN to what I say and follow me.

Ketojan: ... okay.

There were rumours that Ketojan WAS actually supposed to be in the party and I was just OVER THE MOON about this because the Qunari are one of my most favourite races in Thedas. If this rumour was true, that means Ketojan Companion idea was abandoned which just makes me even more disappointed in the devs.

Seriously, I want my Qunari companion.

But a Qunari Mage?  I would rather a Qunari warrior...someone who would charge enemies like the Arishok does.  We need someone similar to Sten...or Shale.

He was supposed to be a companion in the early stages of the development of the game, but the devs abandoned the idea.

Apparently this is untrue.

The wiki indicates that "Bioware had originally intended Ketojan as a potential party member but the idea was scrapped."

A shame really...I'm guessing it was a time constraint thing?

Er...no.
He was never planned as a party member. I have no idea where people are
getting that idea from. Every party member we intended is in the game.

Mary has spoken.

I hope I'm not the only one who prefers to tell those qunari "suck it, I won't let you torture one of your own even if he agrees with it" and cap their asses.

I handed him over.  The Qunari can do whatever they want as long as they leave Kirkwall alone.  If he wanted to be killed, then he was too far gone to bother with.

Oh and I was also thinking he'd be a companion.  Actually, the first time I did this, I made the mistake of mentioning I was a mage, and the Qunari attacked me immediately.  It wasn't until the second time I saw this that I even knew the Sarabaas wanted to die by their hand... whoops.

He did not want to die. He wanted to live by the Qun. There is a world of a difference.

Well, this is pretty old, but anyway...

In Ketojan's case, "living by the Qun" meant dying to the Aavarad's blade because he'd been unleashed for too long.  He had been exposed to demons without a handler present... and since he knew the Qun inside and out, he knew the consequences of rejoining them.  So yeah, he did want to die.

Golems did have extremely cute butts. I always loved running around as one in DAO in the fade. :D

Yeah, having Ketojan as a companion would have been great. He was very interesting. I would love to have extended dialog with him convincing him away from the indoctrination of the Qun.

That would be like convincing a bird not to fly.

And Tal-Vashoth are more interested in being bandits than anything else, so maybe we'll encounter a Meraas type qunari who has seen both sides, and wants neither, instead wanting to forge their own place in the world.

Like most things this is not as black and white as it first seems.
Read the journal entry for his amulet, it "suggests" that he had long thought about his state and considered many desires.
The amulet itself is of bloodmagic, his words "I can not know if I'm corrupted."
He may have died by the Qun, but it was a state he thought long about whether he should have been forced to live by it.
However this character was by far the one I enjoyed the most.
