Well, the ending battle was fun, so gameplay-wise the statues are welcome.
As we don't know much about what the lyrium idol actually is, i'm also ok with it's power to animate the statues, though i hope we will get a proper explanation some day.
Meredith's insanity was for sure increased by the idol, but i think that the roots of it were always there. Even in act I her own templar recruits think it is possible that she kills the weak and soft of them. Even though it isn't true, she is clearly not entirely on the level-headed side. She is pretty paranoid all the time. So the idol was more of a catalyst for her madness, but not the cause.

In another thread about the idol it seems the general consensus is that the idol heightens negative aspects of the personality, hence why greedy Bartrand suddenly double crosses his brother over money and paranoid Meredith goes off the deep end.

That wasn't a light saber.  It was clearly Soul Edge.

I assumed they where forgotten constructs from the Tevinter mages of old which Meredith as Knight-Commander might be aware of, any other explanation makes my mind explode

I loved the end fight myself. It had a nice way of tying everything together. Especially the statues. Those statues that were leftovers from the Tevinter Emperium days. Who you might recall were masters of magic and making fun things like Golems.

They really put it out there there entire game for the player to pick up on. As they did hints of the corrupted Lyrium being behind Meredith's madness. I was really hitting myself on the forehead at that fight since I saw all the hints but didn't connect them.

Unlike Anders which I figured out the second he gave me his ingredient list.

The tainted golem fight was the best part of the game. It simultaneously reminded me of Mass Effect, Tomb Raider (the movie), and Ghost Busters.

I like them a lot, what I didn't like in that battle was Meredith the acrobat gone wild. The statues though were good, a bit of a tribute to the old Sinbad movies and the Ray Harryhausen stop action motion creatures.

Well, I guess he was just compensating for something.

And I guess he heard  that girls love girth. So he just did that to impress the women!

About he subject: the fight was pretty silly, her jumping around like that. And to be frank, the enemies could take way too many hits.

The only thing I liked about that battle was when the statues first come to life, if only for the cheesy Harryhauseness of the moment.

Alrighty, I just finished Dragon Age 2 for the first time! I had to restart about 3-4 times due to bugs but I finally got there in the end.

And I just have one thing on my mind after that last battle - giant freggin' golden robot statues of doom (and lasers).

Now to get to the pointless point here - I do not think the giant robot of doom thing worked for the end boss of ME2, and I do not think they worked out well here either without an explanation. :>

So, please, move away from the giant robot evil coniving bronze metal robots of doom thing in later installments.

Thanks. :)

I, for one, thought the Meredith fight was actually pretty badass. Please, MORE of these multi phase, multi faceted fights (in DLC).

Clinging onto stat-based tactical combat like it has any business being in rpgs, means bosses either have healtbars the size of jupiter, adds, or both.

The fight itself was fun as I said a few posts under it, but I can do with less giant robot statues coming alive and trying to eat my face through powers unknown.

At ;least they weren't shooting lasers out of their eyes.

For heaven's sake dude! Don't you know BioWare staff read this forum?
If we have a laser shooting statue DLC I'm blaming you.

Hmmm and at least they didn't have rocket launchers concealed in their arms...

lol.  Keep that up and we'll have the Destroyer armour enemy DLC for DA2 and a Transformer Geth enemy or Unicron Reaper for ME3.

I always figured the statues were part of whatever was going on with the Enigma of Kirkwall.
