No. It's a desperate move likely triggered by lower than expected sales with Dragon Age 2.

Still, it's something we don't see everyday and that's to be commended. It's good for people who don't yet own Mass Effect 2 on PC and want to, but not really anyone else.

I think what will redeem Bioware in the eyes of many is a good Dragon Age 3. Dragon Age 2 is much more of a failure than a success in my opinion.

Personally, Bioware can do what they want, I vote with my wallet. But there are many people who feel "betrayed" by the company and the only thing that can really placate them is a Dragon Age 3 they'd be proud of.

So, at the end of the day, no. Hasn't redeemed them.

ok that's ridiculous. it took them 1/4 of the time to make da2 as it did da:o and it's SOLD (not shipped) over a million copies in 2 weeks. much faster than da:o.

this is an honest THANK YOU to players. as i said before, considering you don't get cerberus network with it, it's not the best deal. but you have to remember that EA has to approve giving away games for me.

and i really am so annoyed with all you people who are so nasty to bioware about da2. bioware churned out this huge game in just one year of development time. do you think it was their choice to have only a year? absolutely it wasn't.

do you REALLY think they would reuse assets if they weren't forced to because of time constraints? do you REALLY think they aren't already aware of the obvious issues that you guys so tactlessly address in every forum post? the anonymity of the internet makes people such ass holes. bioware didn't make you buy the game. if you hate it so much, if you think the da series is over or has been ruined, sell it and get off the fan forums and get a life you pathetic trolls.

Lol.

What exactly in my post was so insulting?

lol sorry i didnt mean all of that to be directed at you, i was talking to all the complainers who are clogging up the forums

It's quite simple MEII has already past its saturation point, so why not give it away to increase sales of a mediocre product. If they really wanted to rewards fans they would of given them something free that has not been released or bioware points.

You know nobody knows anything really on sales figures, they actually could be lying. No company in it's right mind is going to say it's product sells badly. However the real reason could be getting more people into ME2 could mean ME3 will sell better.

No... Its more like "hi guys thank you for buying this ****... To increase sales as we think they are way to low you will get a (ok to good) game when you buy this!"

They are just showing you the middle finger. If the sales increase from this for DA2 i will be worried about gaming.

Lol, fair enough. It was a reaction like this during Fallout 3 development that caused me to leave the Bethesda forums. But I'm less annoyed by chronic back and forth nowadays,

There's obviously a limit to complaining. The way I see it, it goes too far when people get personal with each other in their posts and insults. I mean, debate and discussion is good. It's encouraged and people who feel like they have valid criticisms have the right to be heard. By the same token, so are the people who feel like defending the game have their own right to voice their support and appreciation.

But it goes too far when people take it personal.

I was scratching my head thinking "man, what did I do to ****** this guy off?" when you spouted that at me. Lol.

For the record, I like the fact that Bioware are giving away ME 2 with DA 2. I mentioned that in my post. It's to be commended because it doesn't happen very often.

But it is my opinion that they are only doing so because DA 2 sales aren't as high as they had hoped and giving away ME 2 with it is a quick way to boost sale numbers without losing value.

Digital copies aren't worth a lot to produce, and ME 2 has already been in the market long enough to not impact sales.

It could also be a way to increase interest for ME 3. Could be a combination of both.

It's a good gesture, but for many people, only a good Dragon Age 3 will "heal the wounds" so to speak. It's not my opinion, I'm an Obsdian fanboy, and hence, used to disappointment. But many Bioware fans are not. They will not be completely happy with Bioware unless Dragon Age 2 is significantly improved with free DLC or unless Dragon Age 3 is a much better game.

I already have both games. And even then, I don't think it has nothing to do with redeeming. It has to do with sales. I rather have a solid patch and if they really want to make a gesture towards their players then I rather have their next DLC for free.

No! In fact they managed to ****** off even more people by claiming "that their rewarding their most loyal fans".Their most loyal fans would have already bought ME2 on day one.

Honestly, this feels more like their giving us the fingerImage IPB

I know, getting free sh*t is a real bummer, isn't it?

Fu*k off. It's the way they did it like they were rewarding us for putting up with their ****ty game. Not to mention that it is completely useless for people who already own the game. If you want to look at a company that does free promotions right just look at valve. Portal was free during the summer a $20 value and it required no other purchase. They also released, a still free to download, alien swarm.

And how is it hurting you?  How is something free making it worse?  I just don't get this mentality where there giving something away for free and its all "OMG THESE PEOPLE HAVE THE AUDACITY!!!!"
Its fitting that your picture is a chicken you are acting like a big C*ck

Except that ME2 actually deserved the praise.DA2 however, yeah...

And I agree about the middle-finger being given to us.Because we aren't as loyal as those who don't own the game yet, apparently.

This is nothing about redemption. I mean how can fans or gamers think of it that way.

On the contrary they are celebrating DA2 .... and you guys feel that they are sorry ????? what is wrong with you guys.

This is a smart move by EA/Bioware. This has manifold advantages for them. At max you are saving $5 on ME2 as it is available for around $15 to $20 in stores WITH CERBERUS Network.

1) They are trying to woo , disappointed gamers, fans back
2)You need to download it from EA with their version of DRM coming with it. It has its own advantages.
3) Since you are downloading the digital plain vanila copy from their website, The real cost they have to incurr now is just the bandwidth and that too till April 30,2010. Their able to give a 15 months old game with almost no costs. This is the smartest part as ME2 has not only made huge profits , reputation, awards from them but is now a property for them which doesnt cost anything more.
4) In order to get this game you need to Register your DA2 , many may have backed out of registering the game after the episode of " EA/BIOWARE banning people to play legally bought copies". They are getting back the control and things in line where they want.
5) The games registered in this process are less likely to be re-sold at decent price and after seeing DA2 response people will hardly be interested in buying second hand copy. Moreover only those people are able to get decent price who have not registered the games on the publisher's site. That may push the sales of DA2 at discounted price from the stores.
6) Alot of people agreed to the fact that DA2 wasn't worth $60 price level, this offer sweetens the deal and can prove to be a deal breaker

I am not a console user, but if this really was about redeeming then those people shouldn't be left out.

There's a difference between few GOTY rewards with over 150( which is a record BTW)!

It more or less tied with Red Dead Redemption if I remember correctly.  My vote went to RDR but ME2 is a quality game and I don't get how giving it away is a bad thing.  I bought the game for 50 bucks just before steam had a deal on it and you don't see me complaining.

I think it had potential to backfire, say, if they only made this offer to new purchases. They seem to have avoided the most obvious pitfalls this time however, unusual though that may be for BioWare marketing.

Some other websites have given it high praise also cant be bothered to look them all up :P

It's pretty simple:

Cost to Bioware/EA: Virtually nothing. No distribution costs, minor bandwidth costs. Also, they lose a tiny amount of money off people who somehow haven't yet played ME2 and may have eventually bought it - but these people bought DA2 instead, which costs a lot more at the moment, so more profit.

Bundling products (especially new and old) is an excellent way to pick sales that are rapidly declining back up.

If there was no need for this - they simply wouldn't have done it.

Unlike some others I don't consider DA2 to be a forrgetable bastard child of DA:O, I actually prefer DA2 to DA:O but there is no denying the game feels rushed (Bugs, Reused areas Etc) and I don't now think "Hey BioWare are giving away free copys of the best game of 2010 so they are now flawless indaviduals whose every mistake can now be forgiven, derpz".

So I'm mixed on it, a part of me thinks "Woohoo BioWare (One of the biggest devs in the industrey) is giving away a game (That's only a year old) for free" the other cynical and bitter side of me can smell desparation......
