It's the same marketing logic that brought you button=awesome. Massive potential to backfire as well.

I think it had potential to backfire, say, if they only made this offer to new purchases. They seem to have avoided the most obvious pitfalls this time however, unusual though that may be for BioWare marketing.

Depends on how the console communities react to it. It's fairly non sensical when it's restricted to PC when the game is on PSN for download for example.

Also it does come across as a just a bit desperate.

I want to see who claimed DA 2 is RPG of the decade.

There was quiet alot of websites (some on some other languges) For example one swedish website said that they went down on their knees to worship the game

Escapist said its the pinacle of story telling in rpg's

Some other websites have given it high praise also cant be bothered to look them all up :P

I just hope that they go back to more morrowind style in the world.. Unique lore, backgrounds, buildings, areas instead of just one big landscape with generic buildings :(

"And how is it hurting you? How is something free making it worse? I just don't get this mentality where there giving something away for free and its all "OMG THESE PEOPLE HAVE THE AUDACITY!!!!"
Its fitting that your picture is a chicken you are acting like a big C*ck"

Funny since the chicken is actually a pullet and not a cockerel. That aside let's be realistic. They are giving me2 away for free to sell more games. They don't give a **** about us fans anymore. It is nice for the people who haven't played me2 and bought da2. However they gave the ****ing shaft to the majority of their long term fans. Just because something is free doesn't mean they are free from criticism. I don't think I ever said OMG THESE PEOPLE HAVE THE AUDACITY nor did anyone else. What good does a copy of mass effect 2 do for me? I already own the game and another copy isn't going to make da2 any better. This promotional is essentially worthless for me and I know many people are in the same situation.

"ok that's ridiculous. it took them 1/4 of the time to make da2 as it did da:o and it's SOLD (not shipped) over a million copies in 2 weeks. much faster than da:o.

this is an honest THANK YOU to players. as i said before, considering you don't get cerberus network with it, it's not the best deal. but you have to remember that EA has to approve giving away games for me."

Nice argumentum ad populum fallacy. If you actually looked at the expectations and the sales numbers of da2 compared to dao you would see that da2 is not gonna meet expectations. Bioware was expecting da2 to sell 4.5 million units. 400,000 of those 1 million units sold were preorders. At the weekly rate that da2 is selling at currently, they will fall very short of their expected sales.

Selling you an awesome game? When did bioware replace all copies of da2 with literally any other title they made?

How is it redeeming? It is marketing, they try to bait people who wouldn't normally play either DA2 or ME2. For fans as ... um 'us' (if I may say so) it is not really much of an offer since we have both already, DA2 and ME2.

The backlash was unexpected as stated by Mike laidlaw himself during an interview, heh, they are human, they made a mistake and now trying to make up for it.

Btw, given the choice between free **** and a good game, I'll take the latter thanks.

It amazes me some people have such a strong sense of entiltment.  "I want everything Bioware does to benefit me because I'm a fan yet they made some mistakes and now I hate them so they better give me something worth my while"
So F-ing what if this free ME2 deal doesn't benefit you how is the damn thing hurting you?
Give me a break are people's lives so boring that they have to whine about free stuff?
I'm having an image of someone going into a grocery store and complaining about the free samples.

I wasn't aware that Bioware actually needed to redeem themselves for anything. Though, I also don't think that they owe us an apology, or that they betrayed us in some obscure way, or that anyone needs to be fired over this apparent tragedy. So, my position is probably somewhat controversial in the current climate.

You're complaining about it which is enough as saying as much. You want something else out of this I got the code and offered it to people and thats it. I'm not whining that Bioware is giving customers something free.

Nope they just repeated the same mistakes. Mistakes are not bad everyone makes them looks squarely at ME2. Life is not about avoiding the mistakes it is about avoiding the repetition. DA2 is a repeat.

I'm a consumer and I have a right to complain. It's called consumer satisfaction. Are you ****ing retarded or just a dumb bitc.h?

LOL going back to my grocery store complaining about free samples analogy.
Thanks for proving me right.

A more apt analogy would be me going to a restaurant and recieving not what I ordered and the meal was horrible, and after I had ordered and eaten my dessert which was good; I then recieved the same dessert on the house after I had already paid my bill.

So you didn't get what you expected?  Are you one of those who refused to watch anything on DA2 before it came out to avoid spoilers?  Funny how I watched all the videos on it and didn't get any spoilers.
You only have yourself to blame if you expected DAO2

I agree with that.

And were they trying to redeem themselves?

Besides, ME2 isn't full price any more. It's half price or less, depending where you look. I haven't played more than a fraction of the original Mass Effect but I'm going to play ME2 now. Maybe I'll like it and buy ME3. I'd say that is closer to their aim. (?)

Edit: Oh, and I'm going to buy both games together as a gift for my Dad - so they got me twice.

On the contrary I payed very close attention to da2. I even played the demo and thought it was fun. I have no idea wtf I was smoking. I wasn't expecting dao2 I was expecting a real rpg that was fun. You know you play video games to have FUN. You may have had fun with this game but not all users share your opinion.

Customer Satisfaction IS NOT IMMUNE TO INSANITY. There is a line which customers should not cross over and neither they are expected to do it. Customer satisfaction does not mean that in the name of it customers can demand/ask/ complaint about anything they wish from their vendor. There is something called consumer responsibility too incase you havent heard of it.

That being said,  I am not pleased with DA2 nor do I think EA/Bioware is trying to redeem themselves with this smart strategic move.

Ok we're getting somewhere.
The game failed in your opinion.
Its late and I got work tommorow so this is it for me tonight but I gotta ask.
What exactly is it about this promotion that pisses you off?
Why is giving a free game bad? Especially a game as good as ME2?
Sure its a bummer since I already have ME2 but what should they do? Offer ME3 for free?
Somehow I have a feeling that people would complain about that too.

I have been a responsible consumer . Yes consumers literally can demand, ask, or complain about anything. This is america. Not that I have asked or demanded anything. I have only criticized them.

I just felt that they should have given a promotion that would work for everybody. Even a $5 off me3 would have been fine for me. Or fire Stanley Woo (I kid I kid). Seriously the only thing I'm mad about this promotion is that it is useless for people who already bought the game and I can't give it away since my friends own it too.
