I agree with most of his statements. I am also struck by seeing that most of the "oh noez, gayness" comes from men. I'm a straight female, and f/f (or m/m) does not interest me, personally, in the least. Whatever floats your boat, actually. I can't play a lesbian, because I am not able to keep my eyes (and my PC's hands) off the males.

However, I'm not in the slightest bit offended by Isabela's innuendo about "back-watching" and her subsequent proposition to femHawke. Acutally, I find it quite funny.

I have yet to find any thread where a straight female goes all out complaining about being hit on by a bi-female in a game.

Thats the difference between women and boys Image IPB

Actually that is the difference between men and boys, Men do not worry about it and go about thier bussiness, boys get all squeemish and twitchy. It is like the other day i was shooting with a buddy i am in my mid 40s and he is late 30s, and in pops this kid and i mean kid, noisey chatty little mag pie so as i am hunting the specials i have to have some silence to track them. It is damn near impossible with the kid's mouth going 8 miles a minute, so i pop off with a Mr. Kotter/Horseshack comment, and the kid asked who is that. I started laughing and said something to the effect kids heavy with sarcasm, well magpie got all offended and popped off with how do you know i am a kid, aside from the obvious i replied it is because you got pissed when called a kid. That is how i knew. I am 45 and if someone calls me kid you wil get my attention not because i am mad lol but because you have to be up there pretty good to get away with that if your reffering to my 45 year old ass.

boys will get twitchy about homosexuality (being as they are still insecure in lots of ways not just sexual identity) men will ignore it for the most part as irrelevant. Age is irrelevant as a measure of maturity. Call a child kid and they will get mad call me a kid and i will laugh or in the case of the lady at the grocery store who cards me everytime i buy beer, she brings a smile to my face.

Asai

Believe me there's no age on ignorance about homosexuality.

There's no factual age to be stuck on maturity. Some achieve it, some don't.

You can flirt with Aveline up to the point Donnic steals her away, and you'll only get a kiss in return.

That article is more an ode to Anders the character than a real analysis of homosexual LIs in the game. :)

You're assuming that homosexuality is equal to heterosexuality when it's not .  Heterosexuality is the default sexuality for the human race and is thus accepted everywhere you go, while homosexuality constitutes but a small percentage and is frowned upon as unnatural by a great many people.

So therefore they are not in any way shape or form equal.

Do try to keep the topic focused on Dragon Age versus, say, your ideas of how it should be in the real world that Dragon Age is not.

Not to derail the thread too much, but unless you want moderators to lock these down due to lack of content, bumping them by bringing them up on top isn't really the way to do it. & if they do get locked, a new thread will appear anyway.

& I agree, or in DA2 I had to tell Anders "No, I don't care for your advances" at one point, 20 seconds of awkwardness, here on the forums those 20 seconds are becoming eons since they are apparently so appalling that they are worth writing against over and over again.

& for the ladies, not that I've seen any angry women bashing Isabela, you have to watch your Hawk glare at Isabela as she leaves the cloister.

I find that the strangest, such controversy over things you hardly ever have to see, it boggles the mind ~ hell people wanting a no-homosexual button in the options would have to spend a whole 20 seconds to turn that on in the first place.

That said, it started with a good article.

Sorry, ongoing polyamorous sexual relationships outside of marriage and across species barriers are accepted everywhere?

If "natural" is the thing here, I never remember there being any uproar about being able to have sex with desire demons.

Opposition to homosexuality is a social construct, one that Thedas seems to have forgone.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexualityen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals
  • "A 1999 review by researcher Bruce Bagemihl shows that homosexual behavior has been observed in close to 1,500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them.[1][2]"

& What is frowned and looked down upon by some is not by being frowned upon worth less equal to what's not, its just one groups opinion, and often groups are wrong and have no idea what they are talking about (Flat earth, the size of ones skull as a measurement of intellect* etc).

& Hetrosexuality is the common, normative sexual orientation, not the default. & this is not earth, its Thedas, and perhaps the maker made all love each other equally, despite gender, or bringing in reality in DA is a bit convoluted, since now you have to write a long post about the broken physics of DA2, and how people don't age right, and why your mage isn't dead after having stabbed himself through the chest with a stave.

Obviously you have issues with this in DA, but don't bring reality into it unless you have a long running issue with all the unrealistic aspects of DA2, aside from it not being our terra, nor does it rotate around our Sol, and apparently the people of Thedas, besides being able to take bloody murder like we shake of the wind, are also less restrictive when it comes to who they bed, like a world filled with Iggy Pop.

Really, only an idiot would draw a comparison between homosexuality (which does exist in the real World), and completely fantastical scenarios which don't.. Image IPB

I don't know what your point was with posting all of that, but it doesn't take a genius to see that homosxuality has been universally condemned across most cultures and time periods..  And even in Societies that did have a greater level of tolerance for it, ie Ancient Rome and Greece, there wasn't complete acceptance.

If the condemnation were mostly isolated and rare, then perhaps you'd have a point, but it hasn't been.

He can no more change how he feels than you can change how you feel.

He doesn't accept you. You don't accept him. Neither of you are going to change the other's mind.Deal with it. Move on.

Actually it was actively promoted in Spartan culture where they believed it encouraged bonding in Military groups...

As someone above stated, that article is mainly an ode to Anders and doesn't really discuss anything of substance. He does give BioWare the rightfully deserved credit for being bold on this particular front, but other than that it's fairly vacuous (imo).
