Do prove it being a defect.
The purpose of all life is to live, reproduce, and die.
Now unless you are saying that sexuality is purely choice and not genetically / biologically influenced then something isn't wired properly.
This is a simplification that overlooks several things and thus is invalid.
There are several ways to carry your genetics into the future, for from an evolutionary standpoint two children by your sibling is equal to one child of your own, and so on.
Further there is no meaning, simply that what is evolutionary effective survives, and what is not dies out. Not wanting to have children, or care for your siblings, or cousins, or your tribes children, is a rather ineffective evolutionary drive, and thus dies out in due time.
And having children of your own is a more efficient way of your strain of life to continue, but there is no fate or destiny, nor is homosexuality a stop for this, since its rather easy for a Lesbian, alone, in a couple, polygamous relationship or community to have a child, as is it for a male, as long as she finds a donator, or he finds a woman willing to carry it.
In a sense a homosexual man with good grades, with everything a sperm clinic wants, will most likely be far more effective at spreading his strain than any women will, given that its problematic to get 10 or more children.
And among humans and in nature (mostly birds as far as I know) its not rare for homosexual couples to arrange so that their own offspring can be born. In the case of some Turkish birds they are actually more efficient at it than their heterosexual counterparts as the male birds are larger than females, and they can secure a larger territory, making it easier for them to lure females to their nest, copulate, have the female lay its eggs, and then throw the mother out.
In the end there is nothing unnatural in nature, unless you can't find it in nature, and there is no meaning or goal about it, just drive.
And by your logic impotent men and women would be far worse than homosexual men and women, and I can't see it.
EDIT: Thedas is obviously different, and operates under different laws, for one there is gods here, and meaning and reason outside the drive nature here provides, and thus given that there are gods, and especially with polytheism it gets horribly complex to sort out reasons as the system is a complex one, and what spirit, daemon, god or demi-god caused one thing to happen, or why, gets frustratingly pointless, as the Maker might simply have been annoyed one day, or some old god might have wanted to play joke on someone else.
So given the polytheism seen in Thedas we can't rule out anything, or given this in future games all newly born could be homosexuals, and all 2nd born children in the next age might be born mages, dunces, heroes or bisexuals, and all of the above, if the gods will it, or even if only one god wills it.
Thus arguing what is lore friendly, and what fits into the world becomes futile, esp. to argue against the real gods of Thedas, BioWare and their writers, they could obviously decide anything, and make it law and canon, like that all companions are bisexual.
Nothing wrong with that, since its not Terra, its not here, and even then we could run into 4 random people with bisexuality as their orientation in life, its just incredibly rare, unless you go to certain parties probably.
