I'm pretty sure I've seen cold staves freeze enemies on attacks. Does anyone know how to increase the probability of that happening? Do other elemental types do anything? Can lightning staves stun? What does fire/nature/physical do?
Thx in advance.
Question about staves and attack properties of them.

It's an "elemental force" affect, and some of them seem to only affect humanoids.
The fire force effect is to set the enemy on fire, making them stagger about for a moment, patting out the flames.
The cold force effect is to slow and possibly freeze an enemy temporarily.
The electricity force effect paralyzes enemies temporarily and makes them twitch like they are being electrocuted.
The spirit force effect makes enemies reel backward in a strange way, not the same as the physical knockback effect. I think it's meant to portray their soul almost being ripped out or something like that.
I am not sure what the nature force effect is, haven't tested it yet due to the lack of any nature spells aside from Merrill's aura and the rarity of decent nature staves.
The likelihood of a elemental force taking effect is determined the same way as physical force: the damage of the attack relative to the enemy's fortitude. Most spells also have a multiplier that increases the chances of it occurring.

The nature one reminded me of the fire one, staggering back while screaming. I guess they're being burnt by acid or something.
I saw that a lot against wasp spiders until it annoyed me enough to stock up on nature resist.

And the physical damage staff force effect is just like a physical attack... a knockback?
I never noticed staff attacks had these but it's a nice thing to know.
This makes the force mage specialization much better IMO, giving additional chance to cause these effects on regular attacks AND spells.

well I have the official guide with me and it didn't tell anything about this..
it's just a normal elemental attack, no fancy stuff going on.
Maybe u have a staff with 'freeze' chance? I've 3 Mages and I've never seen anything like that.

You are clearly not paying attention then. It happens often.
