My first memorable game? That would have to be Mega Lo Mania.

*snip*

For several reasons. One, it was the first game I bought completely by myself, meaning my own "hard earned" money ;-) Two, because out of my parents, grandparents and friends, I was the only one who understand how it worked. ^^ Three, I played...play actually, the **** out of that game. Honestly, I still have my SNES connected to my TV because of MLM...I still think it's an awesome game. Oh and four, because that game's largely responsible for my love for strategy games which is, along with RPG, my favourite genre.

Well, there you go. :-)

The first game I ever bought myself was Dark Forces on DOS. I still have it. :3

I tried playing it again a year or so ago but it seems I'm so used to modern graphics I couldn't tell what the heck was going on on the screen.

Space Crusade on the Amstrad CPC 464 one of the first RPG type games i played. It simiulated the table top game of the same name with some actiony bits like guns that really fire bullets (square bullets xD) and some sound effects. I was quite addicted to it as a kid and it kinda gave me my interest in Sci Fi stuff.

A fellow Amstrad gamer. :3

Do you happen to remember Hero Quest on the Amstrad, as well? It was very similar to Space Crusade.

Harrier Attack on the Amstrad CPC 464 is the first game I remember playing. Barbarian is the first great game I can remember playing though, it was a thing of beauty.

I still remember the first time I played a console, playing Altered Beast in Curry's on their Megadrive display. I saw the future that day and I left the store with the first of many hairs on my chest.

I also had Harrier Attack. I used to play it for hours, even though it really wasn't the kind of game I usually played.

For nostalgia's sake...

Megadrive is what the Genesis is called over here. Not sure which one is the actual Japanese name though.

I'm also one of those old farts that started out with Pong, but the first memorable video game for me was Ultima III : Exodus on the NES. First RPG and first strategy guide as well. I liked the fact I could take my time and think about what to do, instead of relying on my reflexes. I still prefer turn-based RPG's to this day because of it.

I never had the Amstrad version but i did own and still own the board game version. I think originally the neighbourhood boys only let me play because i was the only person prepared to be the wizard character XD to this day i still like to roleplay as the Mage characters. I enjoy the supporter/healer role rarther than the go in and fight everything and get killed every two minutes XD

My neighbour used to have one of those contraptions: used to spend hours playing Jet Set Willie on it, but I remained pretty inept at it however much time I put in!

Mega Drive or Mega Doraibu apperantly. Though I wonder if thats a translation or what they actully said. Seems only we called it the Genesis.

I also have the board game! I was always stuck with the barbarian character (who received the nickname of Barbie Doll for some reason) when my family and I played, which is rather funny as he couldn't be more different from me. Hero Quest needs female characters! My father would paint up all the figures and scenery and we'd play over an entire weekend. Fond memories. :3

Wait was that the thing that came in a huge box with a barbarian guy swinging a sword in a dungeon in an awkward looking fashion on the front?

The boys i used to play the game with decided the wizard was a girl since only a girl ever wanted to play that character lol. Later on i created my own custom sculpt for a female mage character to use in Hero Quest. She's retired these days though and lives in the display cabinet.

Many LucasArts games, primarily the Secret of Monkey Island and Zak Mckraken and the Alien Mindbenders.

There aren't many games out there with alien overlords dressed as Elvis.

Indeed! And the ability to possess a yak! Chew. Chew. Chew...

Of course, Baldur's Gate 2 had an impact, and so did Realms of the Haunting (though that could just be it came out on GOG recently and I'm reminded of it's awesomeness). Oh and Midwinter 2: Flames of Freedom! Oh and...guess I have had many games define my gaming experience...

@Druss: Yes, that would be the one. :P

@Moondoggie: Admittedly, the wizard did look somewhat effeminate. Impressive, you created your own? Don't suppose you have an image of that lying around? I would love to see it. :3

@FlintlockJazz: LucasArts also impacted my view on gaming quite a bit, as well. I loved games like Grim Fandango and Monkey Island.

I love you! In a not really love at all but more you've provided me with information and I'll now think twice about killing you if I ever have to kinda way.

I had that game but we only ever played it about 3 times because we would all fight over who got to be the Barbarian. We have spent years trying to remember the name and just been calling it "that barbarian game thingy" I'm now off to my mates to shout it at him.

@Druss:  I feel satisfied in the knowledge that you may not want to kill me now! That's funny, considering no one ever wanted to be the barbarian when we played it. >.>

@Moondoggie: Ahaha, okay, no promises. If you remember to, it'll make me happy. :3
