I remembered the game but not the name, had to go looking in my box o' games to check. Is it Oh Mummy! ? I still have the leather box that the free games all came stored in but some of the games are missing. Couple of mates had Amstrad's too but they were different models and they didn't get the same free games.
What's the first memorable video game you played?

I win because I cheat
I'm tempted to hook mine up to play some Barbarian but I fear it either not working or turning into a whole ordeal.

Weird...
Why? There are those of us gamers whose native tongue isn't English
And for me... this one got the ball rolling<3
"What a horrible night to have a curse..."

I had four really meaningful games for me.
The first game I ever played was a Mario game. While I don't have anything against platformers, they're just not all that fun to me. I found the videogame thing to be a little fun but not worth my time just yet.
The second meaningful game was a Zelda game. That's when I learned that videogames could be a little more complicated than I thought. That was an important point for me, but I still felt that videogames weren't very advanced...not enough for me to tear myself away from a good book. Not long after showing a mild interest, my mother purchased some barbie detective game and an interactive bible-study coloring book program. Those two games made me recoil from videogames for another three years.
The third meaningful game was Halo, oddly enough. I finally realized videogames had progressed to the point where developers could create a three dimensional world that allowed multiple ways to handle a situation, choice of weapon, no hyperspace arsenal, scripted events, et cetera...what I'm trying to get at is that I figured out at this point games had enough memory to be somewhat complicated and more detailed than a platformer. Being a young bored preteen, I was delighted to find a new hobby in playing shooters, despite often feeling railroaded. I enjoyed the campaign far more than multiplayer while my friends thought I was weird for preferring it. I played with them anyway, but for a few years, I wondered why I had such a different view from them.
The next meaningful game was Kotor. That's when I finally found the type of game that fit me like a glove...the RPG. And it was what introduced me to Bioware, of course.

I don't remember my first, It was an arcade game of Amiga.
I didn't have Atari, but River Raid was so good:

On PC as actually memorable:
Knights of the old Republic and earlier, AOE2 and Civilization 3:

Half life2 was great, but the one that scarred me for life was this.

I then went on to find older games were just as awesome, so went in reverse timeline.

For me its probably a tie between two series of games for the C64, these were the Creatures series and Dizzy series.
Dizzy, Prince of the Yolkfolk now that was a game.
Honorable mentions - Dungeon and Dragons lair
