I just upgraded my GTS 250 to a GTX 470 and find both games completely unplayable. I get many screen artifacts even just on the main menu, black boxes in game, then overheating and eventually the game crashes. Same thing happens in both DA2 and DA:O.

Does anyone know if I should use older drivers, and if so which ones, or the new Beta drivers to fix this?

No...you should use the new 270 Beta driver. It has been optimized for DA2 and you should see significant improvements.

**EDIT**  If you are also having problems in DAO, you may want to check to make sure you have proper cooling in your PC case as the card could be overheating.  Try the 270 driver first, though.

I think overheating is your problem here not your drivers.

Big GPU's run incredibly hot and you need the correct ammount of cooling and space in inside to have them running safely. On idle it;'s fine but while gaming if it's overheating you'll damage the card if you aren't carefull. Without seeing where the card is sitting and how much cooling and ventilation space is available it's hard to judge though.

I have no overheating problems with Serious Sam HD or Just Cause 2 on max settings, and my old GTS 250 ran DA:O on max without overheating (I did have to turn off PhysX, though). Even so I was thinking about upgrading the cooler to an aftermarket with two fans.

I should have said in the OP that after either game crashes it tells me it was the driver 266.58 that stopped working.

Right, ok, try the new driver. As for DAO crashing...no idea. Perhaps the driver revision you have installed just isn't any good.
