So, who would prefer a happy ending to ME3?

Rainbows and Sunshine Ending: You did everything right, Shepard is a god(dess) walking amongst mere mortals and nothing can stand up to the sheer awesome that is Shepard. You punch the Turian councilor in the face, grab you LI and get almost as many medals as Audie Murphy, I would say that Shepard would get more medals but not even Shepard is that badass.

Victory at a small price ending - you did most everything right, there were deaths but the galaxy came out on top and in tact for the most part.
Generic Alien Invasion Movie Ending - The good guys win but pretty much everything is a desolate wasteland, there were quite a few casualties but the Reapers are repelled.
Pyrrhic Victory Ending - Galaxy is basically crippled, it's you and like 2 squad mates staring out of the Normandy's view deck at just the utter carnage and the just horrible, horrible losses that were suffered. I'm talking like 90% of the galaxy dead.
Critical Failure: You suck the Reapers won, everyone dies.
Critical Failure Duluxe: See Critical Failure, but add that you failed so hard that you made it so the Reapers will NEVER be challenged again and doomed every single race to come after you, FOREVER.

Interesting - don't think they would go as far as six endings but if they had 3 - heroic success, a pyrrhic victory and agonising defeat I'd be fine with that. I don't want it to be like DA 2 where there is one ending with some variations in how you got there

Since this is the final game (in this story line) they could do like 30 endings and it wouldn't matter, they're limited to only a few endings in the first and second game because they don't want the third game to be 95 discs.

I think they'll do one canonized ending like DA2, actually. They're going to want to do more content in the ME universe, so they'll need something canonical to work from.

But I want everyone alive, all species still here, and all Reapers destroyed at the end of ME3.

They can do a canonized ending for whatever comes after ME3 to follow but I don't think there will be a canon ending in ME3. Like for example there are X endings in ME3 and Mass Effect: Subtitle Goes Here follows ending 3.

That's what I'm going for. I kind of expect 4 or 5 billion people on Earth to get Reaper gooed before it's over with, but that leaves around 7 billion. Humanity gets roughed up something fierce in that scenario, but survives as a species and is enough of a galactic power that they don't get rolled over by pirates and raiders after the reapers are dead.

I suppose they could do that. It would, however, be an auto-retcon for people who played out to endings other than "Ending 3". For those that don't read the novels I guess that wouldn't be much of an issue.

Maybe, but then anyone that got "Critical Failure" or "Critical Failure Deluxe" may feel a little ripped off if they've played through all 3 games on 1 guy just to lose.

We don't need reapers for that to happen.

I think it's pretty safe to assume that humanity isn't going to decide to nuke itself while in the midst of a war with the Reapers.

They've given the writers free reign in this one though, and while this is in the ME universe, this is still Shepard's story, so I think it have a hefty helping of varying outcomes.

So? In order to get those endings it's like getting Shepard killed in ME2, you have to actively try to fail the game that hard.
Also if you make a game based around choices there should be the option to make all the wrong choices. I'm not talking paragon/renegade either I'm talking purposely making stupid choices that have nothing to do with either side.

Can't say that for sure- see the Matrix or any other post apocalyptic film centered around advanced robots. Also, there were scientists who actually once proposed that we bomb our atmosphere to protect from global warming.

Bioware isn't going to write that storyline. And in the ME universe, Bioware is god.

They may do varying outcomes, but one will be "canonized" as the real ending so that authors writing novels taking place after ME3 will have a stable backstory to work from. Put another way, out of endings 1 through 10, Bioware will decide that ending 4 is canon for the novels, meaning any ending other than 4 is an auto-retcon as far as the novels are concerned. This won't much matter to people who choose not to read the novels, though.

While I don't think Bioware will write that storyline, I must say that we don't know what Bioware will write until it's been written. KOTOR plot twist anyone? No "would you kindly?" but definitely leagues away from what gamers expected.
Besides, I think their substitute for nuclear doomsday stories in ME is dark energy.

That's speculation at best and there may be a "canon" story, but there is no "canon" Shepard.

A possible ending involving the Reapers winning would be pretty cool. Like say if you screw up too many things and the plan for defeating the Reapers ends up failing, or whatever.
They did something like that in Chrono Trigger, where if your party died to a boss you'd just get a little SNES cutscene of

If they want a happy ending they can grind or work for it .
They want a sad ending they can slack for it while saving the galaxy everybody dies .
They want the canon ending , they just play the game without import saves .
A bit like ME2 , I love the way it was implemented .
Honestly that was lovely , I do not want to go back to 1 ending says it all .

That's hilarious. Good show my friend, good show.
Also, if there aren't blueshifted, FTL rainbows at the end of ME3 I will personally march all the way from southern california to Bioware's headquarters in Canada and shove spiny, porcupine/unicorn hybrids up each and every one of the dev's left nostril while singing Pop goes the weasel in D-Minor with excessive vibrato while playing a ukulele.
Don't cross the Porcucorn Bioware, don't cross it >
