It is really quite simple, do not use any green dlc items.  Start the game on hard and it is a whole new game.  Only exception I personally make to this is the starting tomes, for the extra skill points and the handfull of gold.

Before you start bagging on me, start a new game and try it for a few hours.

This thread angers me.

Not that you thought up the idea Rhohan, which is entirely valid and serves the purpose as you described, but the fact that I have to actively avoid over/under powered DLC items to make the game more interesting really sort of pisses me off. I see this as just one more example of Bioware attempting to appeal to the masses with new content and failing miseably.

I was just predisposed to the notion that ADDING downloadable content makes the game more interesting, not the other way around.

"The Masses" don't like a challenge. I like a challenge, you like a challenge, but most people don't like a challenge. I don't know why. Also, not everyone is pro at video games. I am, you are, but not everyone is. There are people out there who could not complete the early game on hard or nightmare without that downloadable stuff, and in THAT sense these OP items make the game more interesting for the masses. Just think bell curve. Some people are going to be horrible at this game and NEED that stuff, even on normal mode, while others are so good at tactics, strategies, and general video gaming they could play the whole game naked without a character ever falling in battle. Most people, or "the masses," will find these items to enhance or diminish their gaming experience and expectations to various degrees, and thus it is overall successful. If you are in fact at the awesome at video games end of the bell curve, good for you, but remember you are not a representative of the masses, and this DLC not applying to you does not mean it is unsuccessful.

Remember, most people want things to come easy to them. They want to put it on hard mode and still kick ass without having to try. The easier WoW got, the more subscribers it got.

Well I have to admit I do enjoy playing both ways, I finished it first time hard with dlc, then trying the different classes and attitudes. It was while playing the rogue that I realized all most all of his gear was green after the end of the deep roads expidition. The Set gear was debatible in being any better. So I started a new game, set to hard and no green gear. Now, at least early on, you have to decide on weapon vs armor because the extra stat requirements on armor mean you will be stuck with lower quality weapons early or vise versa. It made budgeting your money for gear vs funding the expedition important.  Gear drops started to matter.

In short it made it more of a role playing game. Now im all for DLC that adds to the story, but for now the green stuff can stay in the chest at the house.

Everyone has an opinion, this is just mine.
