Racial Gestation (Length of Pregnancy) in Thedas

From what little is known about the races and childbearing, it seems like the length of pregnancy for some of the races differs from the usual nine month period for humans. Dwarves seem particularly short, since we see that Felsi and Oghren had their baby within approximately 6 months. Was this intentional or just a timeline flub? I would imagine that Elves would be fairly similar to humans, since they can crossbreed. Qunari are a mystery, and it seems there is relatively little known about the infancy of Darkspawn. Just that they come from a Broodmother.

Do Darkspawn have an infancy period? Or are they born prepared for battle and in their state as we see them? I almost picture them having a larval state, but I could be wrong. Image IPB

There are no pregnant people in Thedas. Wizards do it.

The period of gestation in any story exists in direct correlation to the amount of hand-waving required by the plot, so ranging all the way from InstaBaby ™ to EternaBaby ™.

This is known as the "Baby in a Goldfish Bowl" Effect.

As for darkspawn, you saw their larval stage (or a mutated version thereof) in Awakening, actually.

Wouldn't the Right of Annullment be a very bad idea then? haha.

Well that's a given.  Wynne actually says as much...

Gotcha. And here I was thinking there was a science to it.

Edit: And that is good to know about the "Children" from a source I read it sounded like those Darkspawn were specific to that one Sentient Broodmother.

Well this dates me but, Aerie had an instababy in BGII. That is the only example of pregnancy I can recall in the Bioware lore.

Very true....but Fable also has the most interesting contraceptive which is being single.  Now wedding ring equals no baby.

Really? The Children would become Darkspawn Hurlocks / Genlocks..etc when they grow up?
I thought they were mutated darkspawn freaks, possibly due to the Architect's (failed) experiment.

Unless you are referring to those pink cocoon?

Isn't them being mutated darkspawn freaks exactly what David Gaider is saying?

Yea, but I wanted to clarify if he is referring to the "children grubs" (the smallest children) or the pink cocoons. Like do Darkspawn hurlocks and Genlocks spawn as grubs?

The Right of Annullment can potential be applied to children, so I'm not sure it matters.

I always wondered how darkspawn are born. Does the broodmother lay eggs like an ant queen, is that what all those squishy, fleshy pod like things were in the deeproads? I find the darkspawn facinating.

Jester was saying that the Annullment would be a bad idea if wizards were responsible for allowing people to be pregnant/have gestation.

I think if mages were really needed for reproduction, Anders would mention this. Constantly.

Ah, okay.

I mean, say if the Templars annulled an intire circle- you could have a whole city with pregnant mothers and no (or a very low number) of Mage Midwives (for lack of a better term) to carry out what was necessary for these women to give birth. Then you would have a huge number of pregnant women dying in large numbers because the birth-giving populace has always depended on Mages to handle childbirth, not science.
